Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Time to put it out there.............

Ryank 04-14-2009 10:37 PM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Some Ideas are;
Anclote again
Durney Key off of New Richey Cottee River, Close to Hooters and Crab Shack andmany other bar and restaraunts on the water with boat access, and dogs are allowed, :D
Desoto was also alot of fun.

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Anclote was a lot of fun, very primitive camping.
DeSoto was super nice, but been there done that twice.
Durney Key? The few photos didn't show any beaches for camping... Ryan, been there? Tell us more.
It's tough finding a place for 15 or more boats!

Ryank 04-15-2009 10:16 AM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Durney Key is a small little Island /Key right near the mouth of the Pithlachascottee River or Cottee River for short, its roughly 2-3 acres plenty of room for boats to anchor up, You can camp anywhere yoyu like, either on the beach, or closer into the tree areas.while being less then a mile from bars and restaraunts up river Its a couple of miles NW of Ancolte, and is right next to the New Port Richey Channel with Quick easy access to offshore. The bad is it would be primitive no bathroom or showers but we have sun showers and a porta potty, and shower enclosure, etc so not a big deal for us but some may not be as accepting with it. We have space available for a few trailers close to a boat ramp by our house, and there are several ramps in the area.

eggsuckindog 04-15-2009 12:53 PM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Frankly Anclote has eroded quite a bit, last time up the beach area was pretty much gone - I like the Durney Key idea

Another option I will keep an eye is the south end of anclote, were all the sand from the north end went - much closer to the bathroom and showers at the ramp - will get up there soon

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

ESD-The comments I get for location always revolve around on site bathrooms and shower. Are the facilities still not with a shower nearby?

Ryank 04-15-2009 08:23 PM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Showers we could handle I could bring several 6 gal jugs and have one or two sun showers going, we could set up a porta poty or two in a spare tent or shower enclosure, it is do able, We can fit probably 5 or 6 trailers between or house and our neighbors, and fit at least that many on the lot in front of our house. Just Ideas,

12v whirlpool tub too ??

how long are you staying? a shower is running water over your head and as Ryan said he has showers with enclosures and I have one that's never seen the light of day - we just pour water over our heads-soap-then more water. Don't forget you have the entire gulf and then its just a rinse with the fresh water, Dial soap will lather in saltwater and you will shower maybe twice???

not sure on his island but the southend of anclote has the bathroom and shower/outside at the anclote ramp which is 2.9 miles bearing 63' straight in the channel, much shorter than the north end. Not sure if its even big enough yet, its just a long pretty sandbar that extends south off the tip of the island and ends with a small island that used to be high enough to camp.

Sounds doable, any other options for locations everyone??

Cedar Key, Crystal River, Homosassa

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Ooh, skinny water spot-tails and buckets of scallops instead of battling snook and traffic. Might have to go west coast to west coast for that one... Fishing in the boonies is right up my alley. ;)

Isn't that Fr Franks region?

Ryank 04-16-2009 09:15 PM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Fun places to go but lots of Jellyfish :o during scallop time, murky water further north you go,, and you have to drive for ever to get to good offshore grounds. My boat doesn't do so good in skinny water :(. Other then that I would just about anywhere we decide on.

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

That area up there is not overly SeaCraft friendly, just say'in

I still say Peanut Island sounds pretty darn good - only 20 sites with Hilton like facities (Snookerd) and the campers are the only ones allowed to use the dock after sunset, Lake Worth Inlet is pizzing distance. I will be over there may 23 and will go check it out but heres a link

If you guys decide on Anclote again there are showers here at "Marina Del BBH" a 3 mile ride from the North end. [image]http://http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...ture123205.jpg[/image]

After a little searching came up with this place B's..
Yo Matt, let us know if this would be suitable
for the gathering. At least Carl & Jeanne won't
miss happy hour with being this close..

This Link
lists all the campgrounds around the state..

What-a dilemma we are faced with trying to find a new
place for all of us to gather again..

See ya, Ken

PEANUT ISLAND!
Or we could all trailer up to Cape Cod and show em how it`s done.....................Ow. Sorry.

On a serious note, the local constabulary has put the kibosh on the antics of the townies, not that we would qualify for that discription... much. Well maybe I could.
The days of 15 year old hotties auditioning for girls gone wild are pretty much over now. We could host maybe 4 or so truck n trailer rigs on our cul de sac and lawn. The sprinkler heads all took a dive when I was horizontal for a while, so that`s not an issue. The ramp at Currie Park is 10 minnows away and Phil Foster another 10 minnows. If we time it for the fall mullet run, it will be Historic once again!
Well not maybe waking up at 6:00 in the morn, on the ocean, under the stars,....... in Key Largo historic, but it`s perfect. The gulfstream is 10 minnows out, bait will be everywhere, the beaches will be going off, the inlet will be going off, offshore will be. Yeah, get the pictures yet?
Bring it on, just don`t expect to hit the Hilton here. The Wookie dog is smelly, blind, and entertaining. The house is small and humble, and so are we. Any and all stay for freedom.
Sandy & Janet

still having connectivity issues w/ bell so.
3rd modem 3 wks.... I have a few pics n things to come. think they finally got it. upgrade to business class.

You guys ever think about closer to South Carolina?? It's a happy halfway spot for lots of people!! :) Unfortunately, between ~ Sept. 15-Nov. 15 is shrimp baiting season and the prime spot is over run. Check out reserveamerica.com, Buck Hall recreation area. Except for having to re-trailer the boat it's a really nice place especially in the Fall.

I like the peanut island idea. I've been around that island since the 70's. Slightly different (major hair cut) from when I spent nights anchored off it. What a party we would have. We would need CSC t-shirts for sure!! Evan ready for another batch????

What # of shirts do you have left?? We didn't thank you enough for the great job you did on those T's. I ended up with 4 of them, thanks!

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Just got back from beaking in the waverunner and we stoppe at Durney Key. The island looked great and has room for over 20-20 tents no problem, and 15 minutes from Hooters and other places on the water Woohoo. The island has enough room for 100 plus boats and was Nice. I'll be sending pics to Carla to post :D

eggsuckindog 04-20-2009 01:30 PM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

I checked the south end of Anclote and it would work and deep water for anchoring 23's and much more sheltered than the north end - straight sand so no bug issues.
Durney Key sounds like its closer to civilization for bathrooms, although its idle zone and anclote channel is not so maybe about the same time frame to get there.
By the way there is a new ramp near the south end of Anclote that was purchased by the county and is 24 hrs so no need for permits.

Either spot or Peanut Is is fine with us - although if PI - Sandy could you maybe arrange just 1 more tryout for Girls Gone Wild that weekend

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Sorry for the horrid spelling on my prior post, I think the beverages had something to do with it :o
Any how Good news if we decide on Durney Key, I spoke with Kristen who owns Kormans Sunset Landing Marina a half mile away and just a 5-10 min idle at most, and they said we could use their restrooms no problem during business hours, but they do not have showers on site, They do have a rental cottage on the water next door to the marina that can sleep up to 10-12 between 3 bedrooms and pullouts, and it rents with dock dockage fees depending on how many boats for 160 a night. and any of us can use the showers etc at that point. OR you can drive another 15 or so minutes and shower at our house but we will be staying at the island no problem either way. Here is the link w pics of the rental cottage web page http://www.vrbo.com/235291

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

The last time we spoke about having something in YT,CR or Homosassa I could not find anything with what we need. Someplaces have parts. The marina in YT that NO BONES asked about would not have enough docking or camping space.

Then we have the bugs... This area is know as the sandgnat capital of the world!

Yankeetown Marina is a friend of mine and has a field that Fl Sportsman did a weekend on it's mostly rock and I would like someone else's opinion before I offer it up. the marina has restrooms but no showers. Shrimp boats show up around daylight.

I guess what I'm trying to say is it's nice living here but I would want to camp here.

Egg, anything on inner Tampa Bay?

Ryank 04-21-2009 07:30 AM

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

I have never been bitten by anything on Durney unless I asked it to. :D Theres just enough cover to be good and give some shielding but not enough to allow bugs to go rampant, thanks to the usual light breeze.

Really looks nice, plenty of space & not crowded.
We have a Canopy with screen, a few of those will be nice for shade. Instead of spending on campsite, buy a porta-potty & 5-gal jug of fresh shower water.
If Ryan doesn't mind, Skip & I will take one of his trailer parking spaces.
When's this happening????

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Wave - not much other than Beer Can Is. Apollo Bch - we also have the option of Shell Is. off Ft Desoto with is a close run back to the ramp for cars or the campground for showers and bathrooms but no dogs or alcohol.

I kinda like the Durney Key idea personally, lots of good fishing and some places to go

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Sounds pretty good to me! I'll just stay on the boat with all the comforts of home! Shadow will come too if they allow dogs! Will need a trailer parking spot also. Is there deep water all around the island such that you could move to get out of the wind if it really started to blow? What time of year are we looking at?

304 miles from Miami. North of St. Pete(New Port Richey).

I usually go to Google maps...get directions and like magic it appears.

AIN'T the internet great :D :D

Re: Fall 2009 Gathering Time and Location Options

Durney Key is off the coast of Pasco County, Just North of Tarpon Springs. We usualy can get to Miami in less then 4 hours and that is going 65, so you could probably make it faster. Lots of good Grouper digging offshore, and Tons of artificial reefs including a big group of M60 army tanks in 30ft of water which make for a unique diving experience. And the Docks at Hooters can accomodate about 12 boats :D

If you check google earth or something - find the Anclote River then go north a few miles and you will see another river but smaller - Durney Key is straight out not very far - its off New Port Richey
DOGS ARE A-OK, no rules

Nov-Dec is tooo late, it can be very cold and windy, this ain't Miami= late Sept early Oct is best - full moon of Oct would make life on an island better
