Someone asked a question about the beam on this boat and I realized I had it wrong in description it is actually at least 10 ft. Very wide and nice high gunnel.

Please email me any other questions. Thanks.

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Is this an open console version of the original Moesly 27'? I have a 1962 SeaCraft 21' and 1973 & 1976 SeaCraft 25'and the dimensions you've stated would make it a 30% scale up of the 21'. I am quite interested in the boat and would like further information on the trailer, fuel tank capacity and empty weight (no fuel and engine).

hitsgang 06-07-2009 12:28 AM

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Not sure how this model connects to Mosley design. These were built in 85 & 86 when CSY was buildiing them. Not very many exist. I was told less than 20 or so.

Trailer is a Tow Master dual axle
Boat has 2 fuel tanks (300 gallon capacity)
Original spec sheet says boat weighs 5000 lbs

I am posting original spec sheet on boat which should give you all details on this Superfisherman model

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Does anyone know whether this is the same 27' hull design Moesly built as a flybridge sportfisherman in the 60s? From the spec sheet it looks to be much lighter.

hitsgang 06-08-2009 03:32 PM

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Not sure what difference is, but might be due to this being an open boat (center console) without cabin weight.

It is not the same as Moesly 27. Yes it is a VDH based on the spec's of the SeaCraft hull. If I inderstand correctly it isn't a Potter built either. I believe these where built by Johnny Moress (SeaCraft/Tracker)

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

When my boat (1969 27') was down at my local marina, they brought in a 1986 model and it was parked right next to it.. We all compared the hull, every dimension was the same except for the transom. The 86 was flat like a 23 Seacraft, mine had the in-dented portion for the I/O's. I spoke with Bill Potter a few years back and he did indicate selling the molds to the Moress brothers. My guess is the later hulls were splashed from an original 27 hull (Just a guess) All I know is the shape of the hull was exact in every dimension. The 86 had a cap, mine does not. My hull is very thick, my guess is in 1986, maybe they finally figured out they could use a lot less glass.

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Bearfish answered on page 1 that the 27's were CSY era prior to Tracker which makes sense and I remember Dan's post about the comparison between the 27's from being side by side in the shop. Don is right about them not being a Potter boat as far as we have found...........

hitsgang 06-09-2009 11:30 PM

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

From all research I have done or seen, this model was built by CSY in '85 and '86.

Mine has a hull ID that starts SIC...86

Someone else may be able to add more to this, but they were only built in couple years by CSY from what I know.

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Bearfish, for that model you are correct, I don't think Potter made any center console 27's. I was just referring to the hull of the 27. Here is an e-mail I dug up from the man himself !! Bill potter e-mailed me back in 2003, he was also interested in my Pilot house (Shamrock). from this e-mail I would assume my boat was Potter Built, or maybe the Merritt Brothers made the hulls???.
I was just asking what trailer he had preferred.

Dan
The beam on the 27s we built was 9' 10" and the centerline length was 26' 9". The hull deadrise at the transom was 18 degrees. The weight of your boat will be the determining factor for the number of axles. I like Continental trailers and they could advise you about the best size for your boat. Talk to Kelly Hays at Waterland Mfg./Continental Trailers [305] 594 1022. continentaltrailers.com.
I believe your boat was built up from a tooling hull we sold to one of the Merrits who built some of the best custom sport fishing boats in the 35' and up sizes here in south Florida. Most of the 27s we built from 1968 til 1980 were IOs, but our last series the 27 Master Anglers were twin inboards [16 out of a total of 38, built from ' 78 to ' 80]
Happy Seacrafting! Bill

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

I am interested in the boat for specific research I am doing. The key dimension is the transom chine beam, not waterline beam or beam overall. If it s greater than 88 inches, it doesn't work for me. The second critical dimension is the height of the longitudinal step risers between hull panels. My SeaCraft 25' is slightly less than 2" and the SeaCraft 21' is 2.5". Our experiments and computer work show that you need at least 2.5" for this size boat and higher for bigger boats. The 21' has such exceptional seakeeping I've been thinking of making a slight scale up of it or stretching it to 26' in order to carry the weights that are required. I'm sure Moesly incorporated all the lessons learned from the 21' into the 27' so it would be simpler for me to acquire this hull if it is indeed identical to the '60s Moesly version. The originals were also about the full load weight I'm interested in. I will be on the East Coast at the end of the month and could meet to discuss further and possibly make a deal.

Bigfluke, Just wondering if you bought the 25 that was for sale on Cape Cod last year? I heard it was shipped to HI. It was a CC conversion and I'm wondering how it rides compared to the original version. Thanks and good luck with your projects, Steve

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Bigfluke,

If it helps, on my 1969 27' the height of my outer riser is 1.75" and the inner ones is 1.75" the center ones are only 1" because my hull was modified and I have a 24" flat. I measured my dad's 23', his outer ones are 2.5" and the inner ones are 1.5". I would be curious if the 1986 hull is the same in that regard.

Good Luck,

Dan

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Blackfin,
I did buy the SeaCraft 25' in Massachusetts that wss converted to a center console by a commercial fisherman. He really knew what he was doing: removing the foredeck cabin and building a fishbox from the footwell to the forward end of the v-berth inner liner shifted the lcg forward and kept the vcg as low as possible. From what I understand the fishbox was always full of ice or fish so his set up is much as Moesly envisioned with his ballasting system. He also moved the helm aft a bit which is a lot more comfortable then the original helm about 2' more forward. With the big block sterndrive giving it adequate stern weight, it runs much better than the other two SeaCraft 25s I have that were originally rigged with a smal block sterndrive and the other that I retrofitted with a single large outboard on a porta-bracket. Excellent seakeeping out to about 22 knots. Above that speed needs to be driven very attentively and with constant tab adjustment to keep upright in rough water or it will loll.

Bigfluke,
Thanks for the report...As you can guess I'm still kicking myself for not making an offer. It looked like a solid conversion...best of luck, Steve

Is the boat in project mode or is it turn key.

Thanks

hitsgang 08-17-2009 04:28 PM

Re: VERY RARE CSC - 27 Foot - Super Fisherman

Turned the key and fished on the boat yesterday. :)Seriously, I am not exactly sure what you mean by that. There are projects to be done as with any classic seacraft. Boat was not completely rebuilt if that is what you were asking. If it were price would have to be much higher. Boat runs good and has had recent upgrades, cosmetic, electrical etc. as described. Call me if you want to discuss anything in further detail and I will try to answer all. Easier in conversation than on post.

Thanks
