Re: New Shop

Tim,
That garage/shop looks absolutely terrific. Glad to hear that the tide of fortune has changed direction for you. I envy you and the Man Cave-east!

It does point out a downside of a 23' Scepter, though. The standard height garage door is not tall enough for a 23' Scepter on a trailer. A 9'-10' door is pretty much mandatory! :( :(

Good luck and take care. I'd love to make the drive down to Whitman when you get settled and see it, but most of all take the opportunity to meet you. Whitman is not far from Taunton where I grew up.

Hey ESD,

I'm thinkin' if Ken had another 12'x12' door lined up in a straight line in the back of his garage he might be able to just drive through versus trying to back the boat in for what would take him......up to, say maybe two hours?!?!

However a lot depends on if it's before or after Ken's happy hour starts!! :-)

Hey Ken....while checking out Tim's new place, which is just outstanding!!, I saw something in the fourth picture down I was wondering about. It's a big square looking thing leaning against the wall with what looks like a shovel handle attached. I don't have one of those weird things in my garage, how about you??

Yeah. Been there, done that.
Make daily calls to your local politicians, Write weekly letters to the editor. Send daily emails to your state representatives. Get your neighbors and local churches to do the same. Post metal signs warning drivers their are entering a high crime/high drug use area. And absolutely get a concealed carry permit and carry "cocked and locked".

I lived in a high crime area in Denver in the early 90's. I enlisted the help of neighbors and churches in the letter writing and phone calls, and we pooled our funds to have the signs made. The city took the signs down at first, but two days after they did there was a carjacking, and we convinced the victim to sue the city/county of Denver for failing to warn people of the danger in the area and being complicit by taking out the warning signs we put up. The woman won her lawsuit and was awarded 3 million because the city was found to have contributed to her danger by removing the signs and failing to warn and protect the general public for a public danger they knew about by virtue of the letter writing and publicity we put on the issue.
After having to pay 3 million for that, we had plenty of visible law enforcement in the area. They didn't want to get sued again.

Oh yeah. It took almost two years, and one of my neighbors was shot (not killed) in a confrontation with some Crips who were dealing drugs out of his own carport off the alley behind his house.

I was serious about getting a permit and carrying a firearm for self-defense. Getting a permit in Massachussetts is a lengthy and difficult process unless you already have one from another state.

Remember, Police don't protect you from crime, they try to arrest the criminal after the criminal has already hurt you.

That'll work somewhat. The bad part is that drug users need help, and should be pitied. Dug dealers need punishment, and should be arrested. That powdered bleach-in-the-baggie idea punishes the drug users, and could cause serious harm to someone.

Besides, most druggies will taste a tiny bit before they cook/smoke/snort/boot any drugs. Long-term drug abusers can even tell you what a drug has been cut with by it's taste.

A priest friend moved From FL to Attleboro, MA about 5 years ago. His wife already had a CCW permit from Florida, and it took her about 9-10 weeks to get hers there. He applied for his CCW, and it took him 2 1/2 years to get his permit, even though he is ex-LE, and a reserve Navy officer. About a year after he applied, he was car-jacked. After that, his application was denied because they said he might use the CCW as a means of revenge. :D

What I can't figure is, he already had firearms, and had registered them with the local PD. How would a CCW make it more likely he would use them for revenge? He appealed to his state assemblyman or whatever they call state legislators up there, and got his application reinstated. Still took another year to actually get his permit, though.

My problem is that the states idea of helping a drug addict is give them $850./month in money, $250/month in food stamps, FREE 100% medical coverage for life, on top of their daily fix of methodone or whatever else, oh yeah they get really decent ( I have seen it in Pasco) housing in a state approved apartment complex and they pay $96. month and the state picks up the rest of the tab. Then they no longer ever have to work again, just sit back and collect and get fat and lazy and scarf up whatever other pills they can find. Personaly they are wasting precious space and oxygen. As for dealers Jails are filled with repeat offenders and they are released every day as are sexual predators, rapists, etc. They need stiffer punishments, and harsher rehab programs, Start executing (or even pretend to and publicize it) repeat ofenders (the ones who cannot be rehabbed) and I believe after a very few you will have less drug dealers, once they see what can happen. But to them life in jail is almost as good as life on the streets.

I got my CWP here in SC back in '02. 90 days (standard) and it expired ($50 renewal) while my Dad passed. Now the 8 hour course again, and hopefully easily reissued without any problems...Last time I had to dig up old records from a problem in the great old Commonwealth of Virginia...Funny story from 1986 and a three day Grateful Dead Show!!! Oh well.

Scary how much trouble you can get in without shooting two or three times a month. Everyone else having trouble locating ammo? Part II.

Note* Got that name after arriving in SC for a firefighters position one year after my little brother. One clown says, "Just like the movie sequel, this one has to be worse." Lets just say it stuck. Vezo, Part II.

Re: Drug dealers near New Shop

Hey Shrimp.

Nice looking place! How much $ for me to rent space this winter?

MA is very much about getting rid of guns, so I'm not sure trying to arm-up will befriend you with your local pols and police. I think it's pretty easy to get shotgun paper work, and those seem to work good.

I have seen some areas around boston, etc that have really rehab'd themselves. I would suggest that you get in touch with the local developers and businesses. Not the crooked auto body place that always seems to be open after hour, but the folks who have the most skin in the game, in terms of upside. Real Estate guys, restaurants, big box stores, etc. Then call the cops every time something bad goes down, document with video if you can, safely, as others have said.

Going face to face with scum bags legitimizes them. Picking a fight with them will only make things worse, I think. You tell those types of people "no" and they will make it their mission to make you say "yes."

You could also join em too... no one has suggested that yet so I will. Why not try your hand at the game? I would suggest watching all 5 seasons of "the wire" and listening to some biggie, wu tang, 50 cent, etc to brush up on your east coast lingo, protocol, etc. Could be a very lucrative side business, enough to cover a new 300 zuki in a few weeks. Anyway, it can't be harder then swapping boat stuff on ebay, etc. Just don't get got. As Omar says "in the game, you either play or get played."
