74 20 Scepter 130 yamaha new tank, re-wired, solid

1974 Scepter 20. I’ve put too much time and money into this boat, haven’t we all! Functionally she’s a 10 everything works just as it should, cosmetically a 7.5. For a 20 she has a massive amount of deck space. There is also a huge amount of actual DRY storage on each side in front of the seats. Anchor locker holds 300ft of rope. Nice cooler/fishbox/ storage, under front jump seat. Storage under the rear jump seats. It’s a great boat.

Here’s a partial list of work done in the last year off the top of my head:
• New fuel tank (40 gallons).
• Completely re-wired with Blue fuse panel.
• New steering assembly, cable, and wheel.
• New group 27 battery.
• Re-did cap to hull connection (What a pain, but it’s rock solid now! A couple days, lots of 5200, hundreds of rivets, not looking forward to doing that again)
• Re cored rear seat (other hatches/seats are in good shape)
• Replaced all 5 brass drain tubes.

No soft spots in the floor. No “juice” comes out of the transom when things are mounted :D.

Yamaha 130, 91, no hour meter, has great compression and has never given me any problems (compression numbers later this week). My brother is a Yamaha certified marine mechanic, he maintains the engine.

Work done in the last year off the top of my head:
• Both trim rams and tilt ram, all seals and caps replaced no leaks whatsoever, top pin for tilt replaced as well.
• Steering tube replaced.
• New shift and throttle cables.
• Newer wiring harness.
• Replaced trim switch in throttle handle.

Galvanized trailer in very good shape.
• Bunks recently re-done.
• Hubs and bearings completely gone through two months ago before I made a 225 mile 4 hour trip with no problems.

Very fuel efficient and not affected much by load, several different prop reports below, you are welcome to whatever prop you feel is best for your application, in our case it’s the 17p Yamaha semi cleaver.

This is a boat we use several times a month, more in the summer. It can be fished or dove from the day someone takes it home, without reservation.

We're selling because the wife wants a cabin boat, and after owning a seacraft, I can’t imagine owning anything else (we picked up a 1970 safari 20) which puts me one boat over the limit.

Asking $5600 OBO. If you don't think it's fair and you're interested send me a PM. I'll keep dropping it till she goes, I know it's tough out there.

Call or email me Mrice23@bellsouth.net 561-358-4079.

PS. just remembered Fuel hatch has also been re-cored.

Just remembered, it was stored under a full cover for quite a while, before we put it in the water we re-sealed the transom cap under the aluminum with 5200.

If it is still avaiable in the end of july.I'm sure we could work something out.Has the boat been repainted or is it the original gelcoat. Is there a highspeed pickup
Dave

Re: 74 20 Scepter 130 yamaha new tank, re-wired, solid

Dave, thanks for the interest. The gelcoat is original and it does not have a high speed pickup...works great without one.

Stay in touch and keep an eye on here, I'll keep dropping it till she goes.

I'd be glad to talk later in the month if she's still around.

Ok, I was little stout on the price pre-mini season, I didn't want to get stuck without a boat and the other one needed a fuel tank and wasn't sure it would arrive in time, but it did :-)

How about $4400?

SOLD!!! to a nice guy who drove from Texas to sea trial her and pick her up. She found a good home for sure! To the rest of you, thanks for looking!

We'll still be on here, because we replaced her with a 20 IO safari :-). These are such great boats.

Re: 74 20 Scepter 130 yamaha new tank, re-wired, solid

Congrats on the sale, I was reviewing your fuel numbers - nearly 50% better than I'm getting on the Seafari w/ a 115 I-6. I suppose you'll do even better w/ the i/o setup...good luck w/ it.

Re: 74 20 Scepter 130 yamaha new tank, re-wired, solid

I don't mean to sound like a MPG pervert :-)...but I'm getting over 5 mpg in ideal conditions, top down, trimmed up and over 3.5mpg loaded for bear, both tops up, 4 guys, when it's rough (and we can still plane) with the IO. Even doggin it she does very well. For a cheap outboard rig, the one I just sold was awesome...for an IO the one I have now rocks...
When gas is $5 a gallon I'll still be fishing and Freediving! Tight lines.

Those numbers for the I/O sound about right; you might check them vs. the Boating magazine article in the Literature section. It's a pretty efficient rig despite the ancient technology engine. The modern 4 stroke outboards aren't much better! 2 different I/O Seafari's have made the run with me to Green Turtle Cay in the Abaco's, via Walkers Cay as I remember. They both burned about 45 gallons vs. about 65 gallons for my old 115 2-stroke. Distance was about 160 nm. That works out to about 4 statute mpg for the I/O vs. about 2.8 for mine. This was with a heavy load with all the gear you'd need for a 2 wk trip, running in the 2' square waves typical of the little Bahama bank, cruising at about 20 kts, which is probably a little faster than optimum for that rig.
