$821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
Probably the worst thing about being a SeaCraft nut and living in California is the lack of SeaCrafts and worse yet the lack of people to talk to about them. There just are none around. In fact very few people even know what a SeaCraft is up here in N. California. When you mention to someone that you own a seacraft they just nod their head pretending to know what one is and then they start talking about their fathers SeaSwirl Striper or some other west coast built boat. It's hard listening to other fisherman talk about how great their 40K Tin boat is and how wonderful their sleek new 65K 23 foot fiberglass boat that rides like crap in a chop is when you own a seacraft. So you can imagine how delighted I was and still am for that matter when I recently purchased 1973 23 Tsunami in good condition on E-bay. FOR $821.00 !!
The boat has a 327 chevy with the old OMC electric shift out drive. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4081427.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4081430.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4081433.JPG There is Bill and Buck getting her running. Bill is my partner in the boat. The motor runs surprisingly good and the out drive as well. We changed all the fluids in the out drive. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4101436.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4101437.JPG we pulled the tank and it's in great shape. So all we had to do was change out the hoses and clean the tank. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P4101442.JPG http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P6141520.JPG test run time http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P7041527.JPG No leaks http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P7041528.JPG Name has to go. I filled about 20 small screw holes on the transom already. http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P7041529.JPG Up on plane! http://www.casdvm.com/photos/73tsunami/P7041532.JPG we ran the boat for about 4 minutes until we smelled oil burning. Valve cover gasket was leaking so we eased her back to the ramp. The plan is to spend as little money as possible...while getting it in good running condition and use it till we blow up something (which may not be long) at which point I have yamaha 250 efi in my shop that that she will accept on a bracket. For now we will just enjoy fishing and cruising in an old classic Seacraft! strick |

Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
He He you guys are funny.....I have Bigshrimpin to thank/blame for being the first in alerting me about the e-bay listing. Then Mcgillicuddy sent me a PM about it as well. Since I had never bid on an e bay listing I had no clue how to go about it so I consulted E-bay and Craiges List Pro staffer "Bigshrimpin" who coached me through the whole process. The last 5 minutes was very exilerating and my knees were shaking as I watched the computer go crazy those last few seconds. Some poor bastard in Florida lost out on a nice boat...all he had to do was bid a little more. But it would have cost three time the sale price to have it shipped there...I know the position he was in... been there before.
Hermco- while we were cleaning out the boat we found about $21.00 in small change so I think we are right at the $800.00 mark as we speak :D Gill- It really is a nice solid boat. We are going to do more cleaning/polishing. so far all we have had to do was put in 2 new batteries and and electric fuel pump. We put some points and a new condenser on the engine as well. I got in touch with the previous owner who had donated this boat to the auction company and he told us that the rebuilt engine has about 10 hours on it...it really does purr like a kitten. PS Biglew eat your heart out! ;) strick |

Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
Awesome,it's bringing back memories of my tsunami, all the same, even the glove compartment door.
I'm looking forward to the thing crapping out :D,only because I can't wait to see how great it will look after your craftsmanship. I hope you'll keep us all up to date, when that time comes.I'm looking forward to the restoration. |
Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
Nice pick up.
The 327 is a heck of a hard motor to blow up. I think I've got a few more than 10 hrs on mine. :D Looks like she's pumping lots of oil up top. Does this mean the Seafari is on the backburner?...Man I'm looking forward to that restore :( |
Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
If you need any questions answered on the OMC stuff feel free to call our resident OMC guy Mike at American Marine - he'll even ship you parts and give tips - I;m sure he;s seen a million those 727 938 9798

Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
If we know Strick, that OMC is not long for this earth. Karnak says, "OMC outdrive", The question is, "What is the newest addition to the local DUMP?"
BUT, I think there might be a 25" Tsunami with a 327 CID engine pushing out 350-375 HP in Strick's future, or there SHOULD be! Talk about a balanced "Wave Crusher!" Wait a second, I think there may be an appropriate boat name in the making. |
Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
Maybe the 327 pushing through a Volvo Duoprop drive with "Wave Doc" arching across above it!

Re: $821.00 Turn Key Tsunami !!
I don't know! The pictures of the guy with a stocking cap on doesn't look like Strick. The last picture with the guy in the ball cap does! Let me see, that big striper looks to be held by a guy with a stocking cap on.
Strick, I would talk to someone who is going to be able to tell you if two big of boards on the back of the 25 might be a little too stern heavy. I don't know what the tankage looks like on the 25, but my 23 scepter with 140 gallon tank and 1200 pounds of motor and outdrive seems pretty heavy in the stern. I haven't looked at a stern lifting prop yet. When I get it back up and running, I plan to split the single 140 gallon tank into two tanks in line fore and aft. The rear tank will remain empty unless I plan to need a lot of fuel on board in for a long run. I figure my range is 3 to 400 miles now and I don't need that much fuel on many, if any trips. A full day out 50 miles and a lot of trolling might burn 70 gallons. However, if I was going to do a trip down to New York and didn't want to stop, I might put all 140 on board. At about 7 pounds per gallon, 140 gallons is around 1000 pounds and that's a lot of weight to be pushing around if you don't need it. You might want to think about the same issues. Further, a Duoprop is about 10% more efficient, but at the cost differential at purchase and 1200 dollars for a set of props in case you ding something, you'd have to burn off a lot a gas to justify the cost. The Volvo Penta AQ 290 outdrives or very reliable and last forever. I plan to call Volvo and ask what the Max horsepower those 290 drives can handle. I think it's probably 350 or more. That would be more than adequate for me. Further, if you are thinking two new big outboards, you might be able to find a decent used diesel, maybe even new NOS in today's market. Just my 2¢! |
