74 Center Console 3/4 Restore

Gonna start posting updates of my work on a 74 center console. Picked her up about 2 months ago and have already started tearing her apart. Work I had planned on doing has already increased 10 fold. But she sure will be pretty when I am done. Up front, I want to thank Capt Cobb for all his help and support!!

This is how she looked when I picked her up.

Is that a 20' or 23'?

LadyLuck 09-11-2009 04:26 PM

Re: 74 Center Console 3/4 Restore

it's a 23'

Had a time last night when cutting out the back...live well seems to be attached to a stringer or two with some heavy duty foam...gonna have to cut it up in pieces to get it all out...sanding will begin very soon...post some update pics this weekend....all wiring is out and now organizing how the rewire will go...any suggestions on extra wires or issues people have run into on rewiring please let me know....i am very lucky to have my father who is an electrical engineer helping me on all the wiring! I feel blessed to have all the help I am getting on it....guess they want some free fishing trips down the road!!

You have a real project on your hands. Might be the last boat you ever need !... a really rewarding result will be yours one day. Enjoy getting there.

thanks guys...
chuck after having to raise engine some it really helped the problem..still water coming up through them when i turn or when i am bouncing on decent waves or wakes...for now i just put plugs in and have no problems..while i am trolling or anchored there are no issues and i can take the plugs out if needed...i can live with it for now...went striper fishing out of oregon inlet on Thursday and she cut through the inlet and back like a champ....take care...tim

Hi LL, I'm new to the forum. I just purchased a 23 SC myself and I am eventually going to replace the transom and add a bracket. I love the seat up you came up with but I think it is beyond my abilities as this will be my first attempt at anything like that. I see you are from Greenville. I went to ECU and don't live too far away. Any chance you would want to make some extra money and do another molding of your transom/seat? Thanks! Boat looks great!

Very, very nice!!! A few questions... Did you mount the Hermco bracket where he recommends?? Did you experiment and arrive at the bottom engine mount hole?? Is it a 30" engine?? Thanks man!

Re: 74 Center Console 3/4 Restore

swamp,
i have been working on this one for about a year and a half...my wife has had enough for a little while :)
it would be great to get together and i can explain what i did...its not that difficult...i also have a couple guys here in greenville that work at a local boat company that helped with some of the grunt work, at a good price..instant message me your phone number and maybe we can get together...

REEL, i mounted the hermco exactly where Don said to put it...the instructions that came with it were very easy to understand...only mistake i made during installation was i temporarily put 3 bolts on to hold it while i tweaked the other holes...the lock bolts stripped (put them on with air wrench) and it was a real b getting them off...otherwise, was pretty straight forward...

the engine was mounted on the center holes to begin with, when i put it in the water the first time the anti cavitation plate was splashing water everywhere...i lowered it to the bottom set of holes to get the engine as high as possible and that solved it...

it is a 30" on Don's twin bracket...did that with his recommedation for flotation purposes..

have you seen my post on scuppers? that is really the only issue that came up after rebuilding the transom and adding the bracket...since you already have a bracket, you are probably already aware of this...

take care..

Tim

Tim,
Beautiful work. That transom cooler seat is an inspired addition to the functionality of the boat. I like the switch panel too. Is the lettering done with stickers, or is it engraved?

as far as i know all of the panels are engraved and you should see the backside of them but he dosen't want them published for fear of people making cheap coppies

after seeing your boat in the water i know i'm in love!!!

Thanks LadyLuck. It looks like you kept the original scuppers. Did the short Bennett cylinders mount under the bracket flange??

Re: 74 Center Console 3/4 Restore

scott made the panel for me..his website is here:
http://www.vectorled.com/
he does good work.. learned about him a long time ago on this website...the panel is engraved and backlit..i will post a pic soon.. need to order early..it takes some time..

reel, small tabs fit perfectly on the bracket hinge on the rear...i did find out after purchasing the smaller bennett tabs that they will exchange larger ones for smaller ones for free i believe..if you want me to post any particular pics, let me know..
