Beautiful restore its nice to see people with money that own older restored boats rather than buying something brand new just because they can. The pictures of the boats docked at those beautiful houses made me think about that. How high was the floor raised and I am assuming the deck self bails with that 150 four stroke. Nice work I am in the middle of a restore myself.

Thank you, yes it is nice to see people put some capitol back in a beautifull classic, and I love to do it, they are great boats, starting another one, which will have some major changes, stay tuned. The deck was raised 2" and yes it self bails.

Thank you again, it truly was a rewarding project, spent the w/e on it and it is an eye catcher, used gel coat mixed with Duretec.

That is beautiful. How did you like the Coosa? How is it to work with? What glass did iyou put over it for the floor?

Love the look of that boat.

That'll be fine Blue, love the Coosa, just cost more, so don't mess up, very easy to work with, used vinylester and 1708 on both sides.

Thanks, you put 1708 on the bottom of the panel too? I haven't used Coosa, but plan to, why glass the underside? Not questioning, just trying to figgure out how it is done.

While I'm asking questions did you use all bluewater 26 or mix it up with some of the other panels?

Thanks,

Tod

Glassed both sides before I set it down, didn't want any flex, also helps when fastening things to the floor, set it down with laminex, yes, Bluewater 2600 all the way, floor and transom.

Re: 1970 20' S/F Second Effort Total Refit

Thanks, I'm real excited about trying out the Coosa. Having used lots of plywood and epoxy in the past, it seems like a Coosa is a dream come true.

The F150 is my motor of choice for my Seafari, so I'm interested in your numbers when you get them.

Thanks,

Tod

As far as weight, I'll have a 200# cabin forward, if that helps. I probably will go for a bracket to try to open the cockpit up as much as possible since the cabin steals quite a lot.

While I'm asking questions what thickness did you use for your floor and are you happy with it? Would you go thicker or thinner?

Withthe Coosa when you butted panels for the floor, did you just use a a piece of Coosa as a butt block like you would with plywood? Did you tape the joints after you installed your pre-glassed panels? Sorry, I could go on for days and days, I'll stop.

Thanks,

tod

Hey Strick, nice to see you,Thanx! Well the first one was for me, then it became hers, the second, oh well, the third is mine, that one will be NICE!! Coming spring '10.
As far as the Coosa, used 1/2" on the floor, I felt it is the right size, yes I used the Coosa as blocks, all the joints fell on stringers or I used butt joints, then glued the joints with Laminex, then faired the floor with Awlfair.

Great job Caymanboy,

I noticed you cut off console mounting flange. Just curious why you did it? I am doing similar rebuild on 18 footer and was debating what to do with my console mounting

thank you

Caymanboy 11-05-2009 04:35 PM

Re: 1970 20' S/F Second Effort Total Refit

Thank you. I didn't like the flange, makes the boats look cheap, install a cleat around the inside of the console and fastened to the cleat.

Caymanboy-Wow, great work. Is one of those 20's your tender for the trawler?? Your water pictures look like Sunrise Intracoastal / Sunrise Key.

Why thank you, the light green one is mine, for now, I'm building another one with some changes, should be done in time for my trip to the islands, the pic is from the Lauderdale area, but not Sunrise Key area.

Just checking on #3. How's she coming? Also, I like the sketch. Is that your work?

Caymanboy 01-13-2010 06:48 PM

Re: 1970 20' S/F Second Effort Total Refit

#3 has slowed a bit, trying to make some $$$$, got the liner out, rebuilding and raising the stringers, and have the new transom in, I made that with Paint Shop Pro.

Really classy boat, I was wondering who did the grab rail around the wind shield? Also if you had the swingback custom made? Looks great.

Caymanboy 01-14-2010 01:34 AM

Re: 1970 20' S/F Second Effort Total Refit

Thank you for the compliment, I had a local guy make the hand rail, Birdsall Marine in Palm Beach made the swingback.
