Sceptre vs. Center Console
Are the '76 23' Sceptre and center console boats the same hull? The sceptre's hull seems like it is a little bigger, or maybe its just me.

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
Same hull. Sceptre weighs more, and the cog is a little further forward.

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
IMHO, it would be a virtual crime to convert a rare 23' scepter inboard to a CC. You might due better to sell it and buy one of the more readily available CC's. Further, I believe the hull as a very shallow pocket at the stern for the inboard's prop vs. the CC hull.

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
Only 26 Sceptre Inboards were ever built - pretty rare find.
Put a 496 HO in there, it will bea 65mph fishing battlewagon!! |
Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
It does appear to have more room though I agree - you can have a square dance back there

That boat wv-drive is a rare find. Keep the cuddy... or trade it for a cc just my over priced $.02.

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
I was thinking about maybe finding a diesel engine in a boatyard or buying one to put in, or should I stick with a gas engine?

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
~ 315 Yanmar would be sweet! :)

Re: Sceptre vs. Center Console
parrotparty, you might consider making it into a Savage, which is basically a Sceptre with a center console and with the windshield off. Never been on one, but looks like a good compromise.

They would interfere and/or the CC would be at the far back of the boat. |

My opinion is that to someone looking for a cutty, the Scepter represents a great value and may be worth slightly more to a knowledgable buyer. That said, you may have to wait a long time to get that premium price, particularly in this market. Add to that the additional cost associated to simpply the "conversion cost and time" to the overall cost of the project. Also, in my mind, adding another CC to the long list of those that are original is not worth the loss of one more Scepter. Just my opinion. |
