Another transom job

Im getting my transom done and my fiberglass guy sent me these pics I thought I would share. Its getting raised to 30" and the splash well will be cut back to gain more deck room.Going with a ceramic core instead of plywood.
Got a new 250 Zuke sitting at the dealer waiting to be hung.
I can't wait :D

Marine Specialists on the Mullica River. They do nice work and the price was right.Scott the owner is a great down to earth guy to deal with.It was worth the 80mi tow down the Parkway.

Re: Another transom job-update

Here are some more pics my transom guy sent me.
I gained alot of deck room by having the splash well wall moved back. The splashewell floor is also raised about 5" as well as the transom to keep the water out.

Nice clean work. Good ideal to move that splash well aft. Outboard bracket would have been even better ;)

I did the same thing on my last 23cc. Removed the live well which was inconvienient anyway and moved the splash well aft. You'll love the extra room since most people tend to fish off of the stern.

Re: Another transom job

Very nice. Can you tilt the Zuke all the way up? will it interfere w/ the front of the newly cut down tub?

riptide 01-24-2010 01:48 AM

Re: Another transom job

Tilts all the way up with no interference.
Suzuki also has a tilt limit adjustment.

Very nice work. Looks great. Where in jersey is MS located. And is that a very small wedge built into the exterior of the transom? I figure it must have some purpose and just hadn't seen that before. Thanks. Part II.

MS is on the Mulica river in Port Republic a few miles south of the Viking yacht plant.
The wedge is there because the old transom was bowed out out of shape in both directions and they could not get it perfectly flat again so they added extra glass to make it flat for the new motor.

Thank you. Makes a lot of sense. Wish I had found this site pre-1999 when I had mine done. Would have done the 25" and repowered with a 25" motor. Live and learn.

Nice rig you've got there. Where do you keep her/fish most?

Thanks all for the compliments.
I have a slip at Leonardo state marina on Sandyhook bay and fish the Raritan bay for Fluke & Stripers, offshore for tuna & mako. Its a good feeling when you know you got a solid transom and reliable power when your 30 miles out.
She has a new fuel tank and a total rewiring too.

it took a lot longer than they said but it looks great. can't wait for you to take me out in the spring. I just removed my entire helm area and the closet inside so I may not be out till the summer.

Hey Keith,
I'll be ready for the spring striper run.
What ever happened to your engine?

That's a really, really nice job. Nothing like a "new" 30+ year old boat.

I fish the same area, can't wait for the spring striper run.
