1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
Well guys I really hate to do this however as many of you know I bought a bigger boat and I'm going to have to sell the Seavette. I really wish that I could keep both of them but financially I'm unable to do so. What I hate the most is losing Mr. Moesly's signature. :( So here is all of the details.
Very rare 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette, hull #11 out of the 11 that were built in 1978. http://www.classicseacraft.com/broch...roduction.pdf. 502 HP, ZZ 502, Mercruiser TRS Outdrive. $27,000 Phone# 228-990-7415 E-mail lost2a6@cableone.net Boat details: The boat was professionally restored by Wildfire Marine in Stuart, FL and was put back in service in 2007. The deck was replaced, the top cap was re cored, and the engine box was narrowed. The teak was removed from the top cap and a hatch was fabricated behind the bow light for the anchor locker, along with some storage hatches on both sides of the engine box. The rub rail was replaced along with various other hardware, (hinges, latches, etc.) The boat was painted with PPG Concept Lemon Ice. The bolster pads were redone with the custom “Seavette” embroidery on the rear one, also the bolster pad backing board was replaced with PVC board. I had the “SeaCraft” emblems custom made along with the black boot stripes. The transom was replaced by the previous owner with synthetic materials and Kevlar. Roughly 99% of the boat was rewired with the marine tinned wire from bestboatwire.com. At this time I installed two new Rule 2000 bilge pumps on two automatic float switches, hoses, and a new bilge blower. The boat has a custom Baja style swim platform, and the 12X16 Bennett sport trim tabs. In Dec. 2008 I also installed new Gaffrig controls along with new control cables. Engine/etc details that were done in Dec, 2008: The engine is a fresh water cooled ZZ502 that was installed brand new and as of this writing has 101.2 HRS on it. It has the Edelbrock EDL-61459 Marine Aluminum Heads, Edelbrock air-gap intake manifold, a Holley 800CFM double pumper carb, Weiand aluminum water pump, Crane gold roller rockers, thunder bolt IV distributor, MSD blaster 2 coil, and MSD 6AL-2 multi spark ignition box. The raw water pump is bronze, made by Jabsco and was purchased new in 2007. The fresh water cooling system is made by San Juan Engineering and was also purchased new in 2008. The engine also has the Stainless Marine exhaust manifolds. New GM mini starter. I did a little research and discovered that Edelbrock manufactures the heads for the GM ZZ502 crate engine and the GM head specs out the same as the Edelbrock EDL-61459 Marine head. However if you buy the Marine heads from Edelbrock, you get the Inconel exhaust valves and anodized coating. It ended up costing a little more $$ buying the parts individually but was worth it to me to have the Inconel exhaust valves and the anodized coating. The outdrive is the TRS unit that has been freshened up, a Bravo style skeg installed, complete drive sandblasted, and painted. It also has a Bravo I four blade propeller that was purchased new in 2009 from BBlades (http://www.bblades.com/). In Dec of 2008 when I installed the engine I also replaced the Gimble housing with a remanufactured unit from Dollar Performance, and installed a new, Mercruiser new style tilt/trim unit. Electronics: Garmin 545s color chartplotter with the optional XM Weather/radio antenna. Kenwood Stereo/MP3 player, US Amps MD 42 4 channel amp for the 8 marine 6X9s pushing 500RMS watts (6X9 boxes were custom made), Memphis Audio PR 1.500 class D sub amp for the 2 12” sub woofers also pushing 500RMS watts. Kinetik intelligent power supply/charger KIPS 12-45 (45 AMPS) Kinetik HC 2400 battery VHF radio. Trailer: From what I can tell the trailer is the original one that the boat came on. It’s a painted aluminum Hitch Hiker Road Boss. It isn’t much to look at, however it’s very road worthy. The springs along with the associated hardware were replaced in 2008. When I bought the boat (2005) the axels looked new. I re carpeted the bunks in 2008. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2429-2.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2430-2.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2431-2.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2427-2.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2432.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2433.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2434.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2435.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2436.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2437.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/147_2438.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2439-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2440-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2442-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2443-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2444-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...147_2445-1.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...6/Seavette.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...gi38226448.jpg Paypal sent. |

Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
When this sucker came blasting into Long Point just around sunset, all the guys stopped talking. We could hear it screaming in from a loooonnnng way. That was with the old LS 454. I can only imagine how sweet that 502 sounds. The stereo is almost as loud.
Wildfire does beautiful work, and some lucky person will get a really pretty, fully sorted piece of history. I only hope the next owner loves and enjoys her as you have. GFS |

Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
Damm,
What a beautiful looking boat.absolutely gorgeous.that picture of it in the driveway shows the beautiful look, and lines that make it the special boat it is. Oh,if only I had the extra money. If there was one more boat I'd like to have,it would be a Seavette. I never play the lottery, but I think I'll get a ticket today, and I know where the money will go if I win. I'm sure it will be a sad day for you when you see it go.Good luck with the sale. |
Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
BEAUTIFUL BOAT!
That's got to be one hell of a ride. What a sweet motor too. What do you think you saved in weight with the aluminum heads, intake and exhausts? I've got a 454 crusader in my Whitewater and have toyed with the idea of putting it on a diet. How are you getting close to 3 mpg at 45 mph? My rig burns 15 gph at 3000 rpm. How does your setup do idling around for hours? I know it's apples to oranges (inboard fishing / to i/o cruiser) but it looks like you really have it sorted out. |
Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
Needs to be a CSC member that buys it - or whoever buys it needs to become a CSC member so we can all see it again! Hate to see that one leave...

Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
Steve, a true classic that brings pride to the SeaCraft name and hats off to you for keeping her such a beauty.
Yes, she did make a grand entrance at Long Point where all heads turned, eyes wide open and mouth's drooling. May the next owner, whoever he/she be, take as much pride & joy and create as many wonderful memories as you have.... Carla |

The Aluminum heads saved around 50 lbs, however the 502 weighs about 50 lbs more than the 454. When I converted it to fresh water cooling, that added about 45 lbs. The mini starter will save a few lbs over the old bulky style. I don't know the weight difference on the exhaust manifolds as they were on the boat when I got it, I would guess another 50 lbs. The engine will idle all day long with out fouling any plugs but I would not recommend it due to the possibility of water reversion from the valve overlap. One could have a custom cam made to prevent the water reversion but it wouldn't have the lope to it and might not make as much HP. As a result I try not to let it idle very long and if I do, I'll rev it to 1400 RPM's for a couple of minutes before I shut it down. I wouldn't recommend this exact set up for a straight inboard fishing boat. The fuel economy is due to the engine having almost a 10:1 compression ratio, conservative head ports, conservative camshaft, and a perfect air/fuel ratio (tuned by a FAST wide band O2 meter). I don't remember the exact numbers without going to the GM Performance Parts web site, but if I recall it makes 567 ft lbs of torque at 34-3500 RPM's and 502 HP at 5250 RPM's. If you have to run the boat less than 3,000 RPM's it will start to burn more gas. The engine seems to be most efficient around 3,500 RPM. Also by going to the four blade Bravo 1 prop gave me about 3/10ths better MPG. |
Re: 1978 23ft SeaCraft Seavette
Thats awsome!

Lowered the price to $25,000
I just lowered the price to $25,000. I would really like to see someone from the site get it.
|
Re: Lowered the price to $24,000
Still for sale, lowered the price to $24,000. I would look at any resonable offer. I'm thinking about putting the 454 back in it and keeping the 502, then greatly dropping the price. However I would rather sell it as is and not go through all of the trouble.

Re: Lowered the price to $23,000
Dropped the price to $23,000. I just ran the boat last weekend and it ran like a champ!
|
Re: Lowered the price to $23,000
Your given that Seavette away Steve. The brightwork alone is worth more than $23K.
As you know,I've seen this boat thru it's transformation... What a rare super SeaCraft at it's finest  |
Re: Lowered the price to $23,000
Thanks Capt. Chuck.

Sold
Well I watched my beloved Seavette drive away yesterday, it was a sad moment for me, however it is in great hands. A fellow SeaCraft enthusiast and member bought it and it went back to Florida which is where I believe that it was originally sold. I hope that you guys don't kick me to the curb for not owning a SeaCraft at this time. :D

Re: Sold
Thanks Steve, she rode great on the trailer all the way here. I hope the weather clears up this weekend so we can take her out. What a beautiful boat!

Welcome and nice purchase. Did you read the fine print on the Addendum? Rides and constant viewings at gatherings! Steve, Our condolences, may you sell the C.C. and buy a SeaMaster. You could have a local gathering and make us drive across the south. Always welcome. GFS |
Re: Sold
GFS - I kinda figured that was part of the deal :) Can't wait til the next gathering so I can meet you guys.
|
Re: Sold
Steve-You will be back.....I bet your next SC will be a 15 Scampi!
By the way.....funny thing happened today, I'm almost sure I saw Dave in the Seavette entering the Manatee River, I was in my 18SF. Soooo, we are glad the boat is back!!! Next time your over here Dave shoot me a pm, and a few of us like ESD, Briguy, Don, ect, can have a west central mini gathering. It sounds like we will be at beer can island with VezopartII tomorrow. |
Re: Sold
Yea, a Scampi would be sweet! I still have the 454 that came out of the Seavette and would be awesome in the Scampi.
Maybe on the next gathering I can go and just catch a ride with Dave. |
Re: Sold
Yep that was me and the wife. It was funny because when you went by I told her thats another Seacraft! We are in the process of buying a house in Palmetto so we were checking things out from the water. I will def let you know next time we are in the area. Wish I could make it out to beer can today but we got burned to a crisp yesterday so no sun for us today...
Steve, of course you are always welcome to ride anytime. |
Re: Sold
When I saw the white transom platform I was pretty sure that was the boat. Nice skull and crossbones flag. I think I saw that at the Longpoint gathering. Steve's trip to Sebastian still holds the record for longest distance a SC was trailered to a gathering. I assume Carl's autograph has been preserved by Steve on the engine box? You probably have the Palmetto deal covered, but if you need any connections in the area, I have them.
