Heading To Miami -
For my 40th birthday my wife and some friends are treating me to a trip to the Miami boat show. We will be driving down on Wednesday before the show. Looking forward to it because I have not been in years.
We will be spending 3 days in Miami and I want to also visit some marine surplus/salvage yards while in town. Can anyone recommend a good place to check out in the Miami area. I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |
Re: Heading To Miami -
I don't know Miami very well, I actually spend alot of time trying not to go there. If you enjoy fishing and the like I would suggest a drive up to Broward to the IGFA Hall of fame. It is off Griffin Road in Southern Broward County. Parking lot is shared with Bass Pro Shops. Should be easy to find online.

Re: Heading To Miami -
I worked in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach for a while back in the mid 90s and remember seeing the IGFA building but never visited it. If we have time we will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. Jack

Re: Heading To Miami -
It's right next to Bass Pro Shops in Dania, right off I-95. There is a good surplus store in Fort Lauderdale called Sailorman on SR84. There's another in Miami called River Marine Supply on SW 6 St. and several others. Do a search for "Marine Surplus Miami" and check them out.

Re: Heading To Miami -
Thanks Botapeje - I did a search on Google for "Marine Surplus Miami" and mainly came up with marine rescue/salvage companies.
I can remember a couple in the Ft. Lauderdale area - will check out Sailorman. Our plan is to hit the boat salvage yards on Thursday then go to the show Friday and Saturday. Thanks again.. |
Re: Heading To Miami -
If you see a decent (and decently priced) leaning post/livewell would you pass it on to me?? The "Pogy Pen" is really what I'm after. Thanks!

Sailorman is good but hit or miss.. Their are alot of places in stuart along their main drag I forget federal or dixie along railroad tracks.
Maybe a search for new used marine stuff in stuart.... I for get the name of the place but I know they have some good deals.. Back by the stuart Harley Davidson.. Im sure someone on this site knows the name. Good Cigar shop also in Stuart Coffmans Or Koffmans Its been awhile sorry. Chris Give me a buzz if you get a chance If the fishing is not to bad maybe We can Get together and Ill take the Whole Gang out. Pending weather and the Bite. Just pick up drinks and Tacos Sent you a PM |

Thanks Chris - we are gearing up to leave tonight. Will be a busy 3 day whirlwind trip but should be fun.. have several marine places programed in my GPS to check out.
Thanks again to everyone.. Jack |
Re: Heading To Miami -
Well made it back from Miami and Sailorman did have a bunch of stuff just nothing I could not live without. Enjoyed walking around and looking nonetheless. (No pogey Pens only one small leaning post).
The boat show was pretty good with the usual overwhelming number of vendors and lots of great new products. As mentioned in another post elsewhere - no SeaCrafts but I expected that. Thanks to all that responded and the IGFA HQ was great as well. Thanks again, Jack |
