No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Just got back from the Miami show, and guess what SeaCraft is not there. Ive been suspicious for a couple of months that production was stopped, but now it seems apparent that SeaCrafts are once again not being made. Maybe they didnt want the expense of the show but the whole mako/kenner line was on display. Not sure how I feel about this, on one hand I feel tracker never knew what to do with the line, and at the same time im sad to see a boat brand I love so much simply fade from view. Thoughts?

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
I spoke to a sales manager at Bass Pro in Savannah, GA - he told me they were building them to order. You place the order and pay - get your boat 4 weeks later. Said the plant is now in North Carolina somewhere - who knows - just reporting what he said.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
By the way - he had some 2008 and 2009 "leftover" models out in the lot. Been sitting in the sun an d weather for 3 years!! Even at that they were pricey - $34K plus for a 2008 20SF and a 150 Opti.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Nothing @ NY Boat Show. Which BTW was a complete waste of time... To bad.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Yes I thought it was a little odd not seeing any seacrafts at the AC show. But then again there really wasnt much there all together.
|
Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
I don't think they were at Fort Lauderdale last year either. If they were they only had one model.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
I went to bass pro in dania yesterday, they had a 2007 20 with a 150 optimax outfront for 29,999. included tandam axle aluminum trailer, and a nice t-top. Lost a lot of that new boat shine, I'm sure it would sparkle right up though.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
My understanding is they are not being built at all for 2010...even if ordered. They're just building Makos.
Has anyone crawled around the new 26's for sale at Dixie Marine in Islamorada? I'm thinking they may be screwed together a bit better than the others...but maybe not. |
Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Face it guys....
SeaCraft as we know it today is DONE!! Their toast. Lets just keep the spirit alive with what we have. ;) See ya, Ken |
Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Out of the current quality cc's it seems like cape horn, yellowfin, etc are what people shell the Jack out for. A lot of the percieved " best in class" boats don't do it for me. For example, YF's for me just have such a weird hard down turn in the bow. It looks like it's frowning to me. Just not my taste. People shell out the dough for them though. I'd buy 2 SC 32's for the price of 1 jupiter, yellowfin, contender, capehorn, venture,YF, Grady, conch, seavee....etc. Maybe not two of them for all those boats but I sure could put a nice bracket and spray rails on that baby with the leftover money. I wonder what the SC division themselves feel about their percieved fall from grace. Good thing I've got a lovely old skiff and their are others to choose from.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
You might think twice before you buy a Contender ...
web page :D |
Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Years ago when Contender was getting so popular, I went to the Mobile boat show and compared the Contender and Regulator. On the Contender I looked at also had the shoddy workmanship under the gunnels, deck, etc. The Regulator was top notch and in my opinion the Contender wasn't even in the same league as the Regulator.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
I was at the Miami show Friday and came back wondering my self. Looks like in 30 years from now all SeaCrafts will be Classics.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
I guess we all know that times are tough in the Marine business. I was at the harbor here the other day and noticed BOONDOCKS was shut down and then saw an article in the paper today that they are way behind on their rent for the Port of Bellingham property, even though they own the buildings. The interesting part to me is that that BOONDOCKS own SeaSport boat building factory. Boondocks just bought it about 8-10 yrs ago from the Wright Brothers, which started the company in the early 60s building 12 ft fiberglass boats for Sears. SeaSport is still up and running but also has slowed production. Their boats are the most popular here in the Northwest and Alaska. They build a very good boat all the up to 32 ft. :D

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Argh! Brings back bad memories. I still remember glassing the stringers in hull number 1 for the Miami summer boat show at 1:AM. That was a lotta years ago. :D

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Not surprised, too many bad stories about shoddy workmanship and non-existent customer service. Now it seems like Contenders were not made much better. You shell out big bucks and then are told that multiple stress cracks are "to be expected"???

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
History has always been a passion of mine...I'd forgot that you were originally involved with Contender... a lesson on how they got started would be interesting...weather they did their own tooling or if they started with a proven hull and modified it?

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Didn't borrow anything from Ben Kramer did ya? Contenders and SeaCrafts :D are the only other hulls that run as well as his!!

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Original Contender 25 was flopped from an Allmand 25 Neber found in Osprey FL. We changed the bottom, shear line and made a new open fish cap mold. We got a console from Big Don McGee of Sea Vee. The first I think 12 boats were fabricated decks, glass on plywood before the liner was molded.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
That is one heck of a good history lesson, thanks for sharing.

Re: No SeaCrafts in miami!!
Here is some history for you, where Contender was born many years ago .... thats the 25' mold in the background and console mold holding me up to the left.

In your opinion what is the best Contender hull or maybe most sought after.... I have a buddy who really likes the old Intrepids, older Conchs as opposed to the newer stuff, much like the Potters. |

Fr. Frank, Fairly sure that's the boat I'm talking about. There asking 79.9K as of now and it's on a triple axle trailer.
