Ain't she sweet!
http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...epics001-1.jpg Below is what she looked like before I bought her. More pics to come |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
The mechanics, pump, etc in the galley seat were toast, I tore them out and the lower half of the sink and installed two storage areas and a hatch accessing the lower area, with a set of drawers for small parts. You can get to additional storage area through the forward side of the galley.
The ankle breaker step down between the seats is covered, with storage underneath, planning water. The wood is "Ipay", a South American hardwood that looks like teak, especially when it is weathered. Very pretty wood, but hard as diamonds, very hard to shape. http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics016.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics042.jpg |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
The Bimini was made longer and higher than the original. Thanks all for advice. Also the full enclosure was made in two sections for each side, front and back, to maximize flexibility for sun shade and ventilation. Its real nice to have just enough up in the afternoon cooking fish to keep the sun off, but not stop the breeze. The last enclosure pic shows the aft side panel with the screens open, also max ventilation with the bugs out.
Last pic is what a few places on the deck look like. The gel coat is completely gone. Looks for all the world like it was waxed so many times it wore through. Otherwise, the deck waxes up real nice. Still, it will be a lot better with an an allgrip job--- next year. Looks to me like the gelcoat on the hull itself is good for another 38 years. http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics042.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics044.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics046.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics047.jpg |

Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Now for engine, new in 1998. The previous owner did not use it much, but sure kept it nice. Additions include battery switch for the kicker,(boy is that electric start nice) more guages, raw water pressure, fuel pressure, oil temp, and vacuum, extra, small size bilge pump as far aft and low as I could get it, additional racor fuel filter and valving to switch from one to the other while still underway. Now, if I ever see the big bilge pump running, I'll know there is a real problem. http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics041.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics039.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...amepics040.jpg

Re: 1972 Seafari 25
She is definitely sweet!
I remember when she was for sale. I think I told about a million people to buy it...quick! I'm glad she got into your hands. You're taking good care of her. Quote:
Your top turned out sweet. I'm a big fan of the screens. We made a screen for the cabin hatch, cut to fit around the hatch supports, held on by velcro. It's great for if you are anchored or at night. Just a suggestion. If you get a chance, could you post some more pics of your swim platform and how it is mounted. Thanks Nice rig |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
I'll post some more pics of the platform and I'd love to see what you did with the screen for the fwd hatch. I've something planned, but haven't started yet.
You mentioned earlier that the fwd bildge drains very slowly, so does mine. I guess its what you get used to, but I've already about killed myself a couple of times on that step down. Also there needs to be some adjustment in the foot rests in front of the seats. I may do like yours with fold up steps, not sure yet. |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Great looking rig Connor! Hope you can meet me at Terry's next month - would love to go for a ride on that thing! I like that storage locker on the platform - can't ever have too much storage on those Bahamas trips!
Most of the guys I ran to the Bahamas with liked to have the swim platform mounted a lot lower, right at the waterline, to make it easier to get aboard. Most of us also had an aft sun top for a little more shade from the mid-summer sun! Re: 1972 Seafari 25
As far as worn gel coat check into sea dek - nice stuff and easy to work with. If you buy the 4x8 sheets price is decent

Re: 1972 Seafari 25
What does the 25 Seafari get for performane numbers? WOT and so on.

Conner- I've checked out your pics on photobucket as well. Thanks for posting. I'm sure that I will have some questions for you as time goes on and I get closer to splashing mine. Beautiful boat you have there. strick |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
check the thread Seafari 25 performance in the Performance section. Note: the speeds given are statute not nautical.

Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Connor,
Thanks for posting pics. Good to finally see what she looks like in detail. Do you know if she was originally rigged with twin inline sixes? Your engine box is larger than mine and it looks like there are mounting blocks on the stringers outboard of the engine. Mine was converted from twins to single, but they filled in some deck on both sides and built a smaller engine box. Makes for a little more deck room. Also, I see the through-hull fittings for the head are still in place. Is it still there? Dave |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Head is still there and seems to work. Previous owner installed a holding tank, macerater, valving etc. I can't figure out where the tank is.
The boat was in line 6's. In 1998 the old engines and drives were pulled, new: transom, engine stringers, engine, drive, fuel tanks (2, 50 gal each) and, I think, at least some of the deck. I absolutely love the working room the big engine box provides. As low as the engine box is, I don't feel the need for the deck space. One of the few things I dislike about 1/0 seacrafts is the excessively tight fit of the deck around the engine. A single in this one is great. |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Denny, I debated long and hard on that bimini. The advantages of a full cover are hard to get away from, but I decided I just didn't want an extra bow. It gets too much in the way. So, I had the bimini made as big as I could without the extra bow. Its about 1.5 ft longer than the old one and gives pretty good shade. When we stop for the day, the back cover goes up.
Dive platform is another one. I've used both high and low platforms, both have advantages. I needed a kicker and extra storage, which pretty much dictated what I could have. |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Hey Connor,
I like a big bimini too, and yours looks really nice. I've had melanoma, so shade is a big deal to me! The front of mine is about 1' forward of windshield and aft bow is a couple of feet aft of seats. If I was doing it again, I'd be tempted to add another bow and have it come further back. That aft cover does make sense - it provides a lot more shade than a sun top after about 3-4 pm! I have a 4'x6' piece of canvas that will snap to back or sides of sun top or front or sides of bimini for late afternoon shade regardless of sun position. I mounted my sun top on a track/slider on top of the coaming, so when folded I can slide it aft to lay down on transom, tie it to aft bow of bimini when bimini is up, or slide it forward and lay on top of windshield when bimini is folded. Now that I have a solid transom, it just lays on transom most of the time. Don't run with the sun top up too often. Love the color scheme of your boat - you have the ultimate Seafari! Denny |

I saw the rest of your pics on photobucket so I have a bit better idea of what the swim platform looks like from underneath. Is it also mounted to the transom through the storage box? As far as the screen goes, it's really nothing fancy at all. It's simply a piece of screen, cut about 1" larger, on all sides of the hatch opening. We sewed the one side of the velcro around the perimeter of the screen, cutting two 1" slits to wrap around the hatch supports and glued the other side of the velcro(hooked side) around the perimeter of the hatch opening(top side, facing up). Hope this paints a picture...will get some pics in the spring. |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
The platform is bolted through the transom, 6 bolts inside the storage box and two more on the outside, outer edge below the platform. Drilling the transom gave me a chance to check whether the transom replacement of 11 years ago was fine. All nice and dry and solid, 2 inches+ thick.

Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Connor-
What a find! Amazing condition. That power config is perfect for the CG on that hull. I had to pause a moment when I saw it! As I was Kayaking from Lake Worth to Jupiter in November I saw it north of PGA Blvd.. It is funny how rare these boats are, and yet many of us have the SeaCraft Radar going 24/7. Wow! Definately a Bahamas boat. I have a friend who works in your line of work - Marine A/C, here in Bradenton. |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
I'd thought about the cg as well, Going to a single from twins reduces weight in the stern by about 700 lb. That's got to move the cg forward, closer to where bigfluke said it should be. One thing though, the boat is real light with a single, floats pretty high on her lines, which doesn't contribute to stability.
Could there be two like mine?? The boat came from Palm Beach Gardens, your sighting is exactly where it was, but I got my hot little hands on it in September. Maybe the dates are off? If you saw it moving, it was either me testing it or it being delivered to my trailer. Woopie! Bradenton marine AC? Brad or Ken? or? |
Re: 1972 Seafari 25
Connor-
I may have seen it prior last Summer while cruzing in my parents 18SF. My friend's family owns Freundship Marine. His name is Todd Lewis. I look forward to catching up with you and the 25 Seafari on the next gathering......... |
