Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
As the post " 27 Project " in the General section was getting a bit long. I decided to start a new thread in Repairs.. :D
Now have all bulk heads above deck removed. The termites were gettin' a little P/O'd that we were removing their food source. As the wood was cut out it went straight to the burn barrel! You could hear the "snap crackle and pop" :D You will notice the inner liner on the port side has been popped loose. Plain old 2 in. chissel and 3 lb. hammer breaks it away. There are 3 seperate inner liners. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-2010004-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-2010006-1.jpg The bulk heads below deck were only glassed about 4 inches to hold them in place. The rest of the exposed wood was painted. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-2010003-1.jpg The vintage Marinaire cover was removed and thousands of mud dobber nests fell out!!!! After a hose cleaning, oil motors and general once over decided to power it up.. It ran like a charm! COLD, COLD, COLD... Keep in mind this rascal has not run in 28 years! Not sure if this was factory as it does not show on Moesly SeaCraft site as an option. It was installed professionally though. It's a keeper. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...21-2010010.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-2010008-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...21-2010011.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-2010005-1.jpg More later... Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
I've been following your thread constantly. Note to self, push keyboard further to keep drool off! Great news about the AC. They made stuff like that to last. I had a 1967 Ford Falcon with dealer installed "hang-on" AC that would blow ice slivers out of the registers. Great work and I anxiously await the next steps.
funny stuff, I had a 66 Ford falcon as my first car, spent more time walking than driving that thing. was not a real chick magnet either. |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Could have been worse.....I had a '63 Corvair. I was able to remove the engine in less than two hours......had to learn fast cause the damn thing was in continual "blown up" mode!!!! Last GM I'll ever buy, what a POS.
Hey Ken, it's just too bad about them termites. I bet it sounded like Rice Crispies :D |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Made the run to the metal recyclers with 700 lbs.
of rusty engines minus the heads and the out drives. My guess if they were complete the weight would be over 1200 lbs. of motors and drives. This gives me alot of wiggle room if I go with a bracket and twin OB's around 250 HP Any hoot, collected a cool $66.50 for the load. Now that the A/C is salvageable I told the little women we are ahead of the game... ;) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...13-2010006.jpg More later, Ken |

My first car was a 1961 English Ford Anglia with NO A/C.... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/krn54/Anglia.jpg The drive-in movie was alot of fun at 16 and not alot of back seat..... Of course I was a lean and mean and 145 lbs, then! BTW: The car was originally yellow... That must be where the yellow thing comes from! :D Sunburst Yellow http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/krn54/anglia1.jpg See ya, Ken |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
'61 Anglia was my first car too.
I sure miss it. Wish I still had it, what a fun car. Lots of good times! |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Haven't heard you mention anything about a generator, so, I'm assuming the AC ran off of the main engines. Is a generator in the plans?

Now that I have Mr. Moesly's blessing on putting a bracket on her. This will leave plenty of room for a generator in the old engine box. Ken |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
A generator, a hot tub :D

Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Hummmm...we don't want to give Patti too many ideas!!! :D

I dont like them for fishability reasons. What about jack plates? My Brother in Law is an engineer at B.I.W in Bath, Me.. He heads up weights and measures. They have Cad Cam programs. Over my head anyway. I can forward his contact info if you want. Where are you gonna put the hog smoker? Pig weight needs to be addressed. Cheers, GFS CSI Daytona? Opti`s or V Rod`s? |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition

Patti has already used up the hot tub place.. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/krn54/752.jpg More later, Ken |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Sandy, Mr. M said that he designed the 27 to be a 30 footer
and that a bracket would enhance the performance!!! That was all I needed to hear! Ken |

Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Finally had a little free time to spend on the project
this weekend. Down to some through hull fittings and bow rail stands yet to come off. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10001.jpg Right now it is a down bridge... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10002.jpg Windows also removed http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10012.jpg Cut out's for the old A/C http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10007.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10008.jpg Access cover removed. Thinking about leaving vent boxes in for the old I/O's to let the inner hull breathe since I'm going with a bracket. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10011.jpg Window frames are going to be a challenge as they are welded with no way to replace the cording and weather stripping. Going to check with American Marine Inc. if they can help me restore these. They were just getting started in business when this boat was made in 1968.. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10016.jpg Teak door sanded and oiled up! :D First piece of project completed.. I think the Emblems maybe salvagable. Back in the day there were re-chrome guys all over the place. Now-a-days you have to look real hard to find one! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...4-19-10018.jpg More later, Ken |

This 6 acre patch I reside at needs attention big time in the spring! Stupid me I should have left it ala natural, but I didn't. The whole weekend was consumed with mowing, edging, weed wacking, grading road, pressure cleaning soffit and driveways and on and on... Now the Manta Rays are showing up... sooooo the NoBones will be going into full operational mode. :D Hope to be back on it in a week or two! I have sent the Compass to ITT for rehab and the windows are being rehabed as well. Just the small stuff, but it all adds up in the end. Hang in there, It is killing me too! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...er215037-1.jpg See ya, Ken |

Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Ken we need an update.
|
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Agreed. I still offer a webcam. I'll even throw in a USB over ethernet extender and the cable so we can put it IN the 27, I'll even throw in IT support to get it hooked up if it just means I can look at it everyday.

Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Yeah, I know... I'm slackin' :D
It has been a bad year for any projects that I have going on. My business partner and lifelong friend passed away on me over a year ago at the age of 56! Had a massive H/A while night fishing in the river. My business has taken all my time of which at the time of his death he was buying me out so blondie and I could slow down and ease out!! Could not let the company just go. I have been in the POS industry (cash registers) for 37 years. With the economy as such hiring someone to take his place was out of the question.. Hopefully things will settle down in the near future. Patti and I have been unable to take time off at length for a long time... Trust me it hurts. We had insurance on the company (we thought) for any occurence, except "key partner insurance". Talk about wanting to do bodily harm to your agent at that time, I was real close.... Any-hoo, Now my son has come home and we are re-doing the Red Sceptre for him. Hopefully when he is on the water Big Red will get her turn!! Thanks for listening to my drab... See ya, Ken |
Re: Extreme Make Over CSC Edition
Sorry to hear about your partner
Big red has waited this long to be in loving hands she will wait for your loving care Tight lines |
Ken,
How's the 27' comin'??? Now that you don't have Katrina to slow you up. Jim |
When we have a new president of the United States of America
maybe Big Red will have a chance to get her re-do!!! Right now precious metals are my passion! ;) |
Ah, c'mon.....fiberglass, resin, plywood are cheap! It"s that expensive labor that kills you. Put your son and brother in law to work! LOL! I thought my work on "K" would have inspired you? No?
