HIN Identification Assistance (1987 18 SF)

Hello All. Need help deciphering actual manufacturer of Vezo, Part I's 1987 18 SF. Hin is SICF8100B787. Original/ previous owner led to believe it was one of the last "Potter Built". Not sure if possible, but interested. Thanks to anyone who can help.

With a limping 1995 rebuilt Johnson 150, and newly discovered fuel tank leak, we are assessing true value. The original 47 gallon aluminum cell has a pitted opening on top nearly the size of a pencil. At approximately $10/gallon, do we want to try and remove and replace ourselves. Any information appreciated. Has anyone been able to slide console forward enough to gain access without complete removal? In the initial size-up stages. Thanks. Vezo, Part II.

i have a 1979 18' and can just lay the console over to the side with the control and remove tank hatch and i believe i have more than enough room to remove tank as well. my tank is 47 gallons and was made in 1996 i think

'85 18' and was able to do the same. Console slid to the side pulled deck plate then tank. 47 gallon tank was only 8 in. deep so it came out easy.

Having a hell of a time pulling the fill and vent hoses because of the foam under the fish box. Have cut two access holes and still cannot cut away enough foam from the fill hose to move it.

1987, No Not "Potter Built"

According to Mr Potter, he left SEC 1980, stayed on the board of directors for SIC 1 year after. He was gone by 1982

Hey,

Great seeing you guys yesterday. I have both your cell phones programed and will call when I come to your side of the county.

Let me know how your repair finishes up and I will do the same.

Mick

Hope I'm not too late, but, is it possible to get any pictures of the fill tube and/or what's in there? My filler hose is beginning to look aged and I'd like to be better prepared when the time comes to replace.

Uncleboo-

I will try a picture or two tonight. But... imagine the fill hose surrounded by foam from 4 inches below the cap to the front of the tank. And you have no access to it.

That's kinda what I figured. Just had to ask. Thanks.

Uncleboo, you may not have foam problems, my 78 had a molded chase(glassed into the bottom of the deck) that was a breeze to pull hoses thru. only problem was the tank connection access. I ended up putting a 8" round inspection plate to access the tank fittings in the future.

Interesting, I don't have any foam in the areas your referring to. I think there is just a thin layer on the bottom and sides of my fishbox.

Re: HIN Identification Assistance (1987 18 SF)

I started with 1 6in. hole for a 6 in. inspection hatch. I now have 4 more. Cutting the foam away from the old hose. Holes followed the assumed route of the fill hose. I missed a bit on a few. Everything in the fishbox will be glassed back in and the higher ones will have the inspection hatch for future access to the fill and vent line hose clamps. My saving grace is my forward deck is glassed in so there is a bigger casting platform so if it looks like crap for a while no one will see it.

Work and time also made it so I had to take it to a local guy I really trust so he is finishing it up. I hope to be on the water this weekend.
