Repowering 1972 23 CC
I'm running a late 90's 200hp Evinrude and ? It's replacement possible consideration of a bracket. Any thoughts out there?
Performance comparisons would be great. |
Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
300 Suzi w/Hermco bracket is my 1st choice

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
300 Suzuki, or 300 Verado if you can spend the extra $4K. (Better torque numbers on the Verado, same fuel consumption)

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
or the new lighter 4.2L 300 Yamaha

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
I'd go with a 300 etec. My friend put one on his 23 and it is nice. However, better hurry as they may not be in production much longer.

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
I got a 300 Suzuki on my 23, no bracket and really enjoy it. Quiet, economical and the fly by wire shifter is really smooth, and it has some power if you need it.

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
just read an article comparing the new big bore yamahas to their older 4 strokes. the numbers are ridiculous, (250 hp on 22 sea hunt w/ 3 adults): 3.3 liter motor: 3000 rpm, 21.1 mph, 4.49 mpg.....4.2 liter motor, 28.3 mph, 4.42 mpg. i know they are a heavy motor but cant be much worse than a 300 zuke.

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
Holy speed increase Batman!!!! 7mph?? Wow.....that's seven minutes an hour you don't have to run the engine to go the same distance, now add that calculation to the fuel GPH numbers

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
I guess you're being sarcastic, but it would actually take you 45 min to cover 21 miles @ 28 mph so you're up 15 minutes.

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
Here's the bottom line...........a new F250 would look REAL nice behind my 23SF, however assuming you paid $3.50/gal on the water for non-ethanol gas you could buy around 6,750 gallons of gas for the Yamaha's retail price of $23,750. My old clunker 2 stroke is paid for and runs perfect.........

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
I bought the Suzuki 300 last fall, was a one year old in a crate leftover. I paid 15k installed, rigged and with a Stainless Suzuki 20 inch prop, and it came with an extra 3 year warranty which means I have 6 year of factory warranty. I also added an extra $1200 for brand new hydraulic steering, total $ is $16,200. I had 2 1994 225 ocean pros in good running condition and I sold those for $2800 each on Craigs list. Total outlay was $10,600. I thought it was tough to say no to this.

Re: Repowering 1972 23 CC
Cool.......sounds like a good deal to me!!! When my old Merc gives up the ghost I'm going to have no choice but to "bite the bullet" and get off my wallet. It's hell being a poor bastard!!!
