help what eng would be counter rotating ? need cabin door! how can i tell what gear ratio inlower units?thanks george

Blue_Heron 10-28-2010 08:51 PM

Re: 25 seafari

Hey George,
If the I/Os are Mercruiser, depending on model and year, the gear ratio should be stamped on the drive shaft. You have to pull the outdrive from the gimbal housing to see it.

Cool pics, george. What year is your 25 Seafari? The cabin sole is lower than mine and strick's. It is the same as the one in the broshure:
25 Seafari

Looks like you've got some work ahead. Keep us posted on your progress.

the boat is 1975 on stern papers say 1976 going to try to get motors running sat I NEED A LOT OF HELP??? thanks george will get more pic and post

Re: 25 seafari

Thanks for posting those pictures. The boat is very different then the few other 25's that have been posted on this board. The stern has walk around room instead of the big engine box that you see on the twin stern drive models. The cabin door has the flip up so you don't bang your head going in or out (something I plan on doing) and like Dave mentioned the sole is lower in the cabin. Is there room to stand up in the cabin without having to bend over?

Your going to be hard pressed to find a cabin door for the 25 seafari. Probably going to have to make one or have one made.

And the transom is built out. Does it have the ice box and bait well shown in the brochure?

Re: 25 seafari

Gotta love that blue. Almost the same color as mine. Yours has several great features mine doesn't. The flip up doorway will save your head from some serious dents (personal experience) and the storage area in the transom you will love. I had to add storage aft of the transom to mine. Yours also has a shorter engine box that is a lot easier to handle.

Good luck with her and keep us posted.

help found blisters on bottom below water line what do i do to fix this problem ?thanks george the 25 is real big beside the 20! eng mec is working on getting them running now!

strick 11-13-2010 09:31 PM

Re: 25 seafari

Sand out all the blisters and apply fairing compound such as System 3 quick fair then sand smooth and apply epoxy barrier coat to the entire bottom. Are you planning to paint the entire boat?

strick dont know yet if going to paint all the boat i do not like blue and boot stripe is way above water line thanks for info on blisters what causes them? george

what causes them?

Osmosis. Water gets in/under the gel coat and causes it to lift from the glass. Remembering back to the photos of your boat in the water, it appears it sat for quite some time. It tends to be more of an issue on southern boats since they spend up to 12 months/year in the water.

Just for comparison sake, I looked at my old boat log and a 350 Pleasure Craft inboard that I had with 600 plus hours on it tested this way.

Port-140,130,135,135

need help getting to have transom done. have a glass man but i dont know what to ask him? what should i use? need a plan for transom cap have room to make the boxes bigger than they are. going to do transom from inside any advice will be a big help thanks george

Bushwacker 03-02-2011 09:39 PM

Re: 25 seafari

Most professional glass guys will tell you it's generally easier to do it from the outside . . . just leave a few inches of the old transom surface all the way around the edge to provide a reference for fairing the new skin to.

thanks but i need some work on stringers too.george

Blue_Heron 03-02-2011 10:16 PM

Re: 25 seafari

What's wrong with the stringers, George? They're hollow fiberglass, so rotten wood isn't an issue.

Ok, I see the pvc in the port stringer in one of your pics. Where's the other end of the pvc?

Have you pulled your fuel tanks? If so, how do the bulkheads and stringers look?

cdavisdb 03-03-2011 04:52 PM

Re: 25 seafari

George, not sure what stage you are at, but if you can get to the main stringers under the deck forward of the fuel tanks, carefully inspect the top of the stringers, particularly on the stb side. The hull can flex enough so that the stringer is banging into the inner liner even where it is as much as an inch or two above the stringer. Top of the stringer gets crushed. Look at the tabbing at the forward end of particularly the stb stringer, for flex damage.

Also look for foam in the bottom of the center V. If you have some, look carefully at the bulkheads where the foam touches them. Mine were rotten at that point, all three of them. You could see where water ran across the top of the foam and contacted the bulkhead wood.

If the main stringers in the aft half of the boat are showing no damage on the outside, tabing is ok, etc, they are probably ok in that area, holes or not
