A little SeaCraft porn & video! SeaTrials

Had my younger brother in town for the holidays, boy what a difference having an extra set of hands around can do. Got a few things accomplished. New bilge pump & a flat tire (almost to ramp) weren't going to stop us!

12/29 got her offshore for the first time. Managed a king, some snapper & my brother got housed by a nice gag grouper but mostly enjoyed some beer & memories!

Today we tried to get offshore but it was pretty snotty & we started to have electrical issues, so we tucked our tails & came back inside. Found some glassy conditions on the Intracostal & let her scream!!! Any guesses as to what our top speed was with 500 lbs of crew, 30-35 gal fuel, 30lbs ice, 8 rods, 60 lbs tackle & 12 beers?
200hp on a bracket no tabs?
Winner gets a frozen ballyhoo! :D

Now for the porn!

Thing of beauty, 47 knots.

43 knots as described, 46-47 in the photos. You're really airing her out in the photos.

51mph is my best guess. The boat looks great!! Tabs will make a big difference getting the bow down into the seas.

Wow, looking good! Not much of the vdh in the water. Judging by the bend of the out riggers and the grin on your face, I'll guess 53.5 mph...

So, did you file a flight plan with the FAA??

Re: A little SeaCraft porn & video! SeaTrials

Lookin good, ill guess 55 mph maybe 56 w/out the riggers

Re: A little SeaCraft porn & video! SeaTrials

So with both of us aboard we got 58!!!!
After I dropped off my brother to take the photos & video, I wasn't able to focus on the GPS while running. The area I was in doesn't allow much of a run between manatee zones & it's posted 25mph, ha! I really think I can get 60 without all the gear & riggers. It sure does get the blood pumping @ 58 though.

Copout - What prop are you running with that setup?

Re: A little SeaCraft porn & video! SeaTrials

We were running about 5700 rpms & the only markings on the prop are 21-M, it's a 3 blade. I don't know the maker though, sorry. Maybe some of the more experienced will know by the markings.

If the pitch is 21", and you're really only turning 5700 rpms at that speed, that's a slip ratio of under 5%. ( my book says all the Yammie 200 2 strokes after 1997 had a 1.86:1 gear ratio.) I thought I was hot potatoes when I got my custom-made PowerTech which had 8% slip at WOT, trimmed.

Essentially, with those numbers, your prop is running at 95% efficiency. Industry average is 75-80%, and better than 88% efficiency (12% slip) is absolutely phenomenal. Many people pay $3,000 to $10,000 to get a single prop with only 10% slip or less.

I'd be interested in what a calibrated digital or computerized tachometer would show for actual rpms. Analog tachs can be off by as much as 10%, and average 3-5% error. A 5% error in the tach would make a difference of of 5% in slip ratio. Still phenomenal, either way.

It certainly reveals why SeaCraft is such a great racing hull. :D

Most of that went right over my head but thank you!
From what I've been told on another forum the prop is a Yami pro series prop. Not suprising I'm getting a lot of non believers on that site. Some just don't know what a SeaCraft can do! I will do some more video in a few weeks for proof, just need a camera man cause the wife is not so good behind the wheel or the camera. :D
