Who Wants A Job!

Re: Who Wants A Job!
YIKES!! I once changed the lights for the airport beacon on top of a water tower here in Edenton and almost soiled my britches. :o No way I could go that high!

Re: Who Wants A Job!
I almost yacked up my lunch watching that. If they told me this week's winning $330 million Mega Millions ticket was up there I still wouldn't do it!

Re: Who Wants A Job!
I have a part-time job - thanks anyway. :D
You think these guys are missing a fear chromosome or just have huge cojones? |
Re: Who Wants A Job!
Good question....I'm leaning towards them being crazy. I had the chance to ride the elevator, basically a two man platform on a cable, to the 2/3 mark of a 1600'+ TV tower in Riverview, FL years ago. The guy said it was a great view. That's as high as we could go because the "big transformer" was on and if you were to go any higher it fries you and your cojones to crispy critters!! I thanked them for the offer.......

Anyone know what the salary is for a job like this? Do they climb these poles in the winter? Those handles are galvanized carriage bolts toward the top.

Re: Who Wants A Job!
Granted its not 1600' off the ground but once every two years I have to climb 80' down a ladder from a catwalk to check the bearings on a river crossing bridge, theres a cage around it but I have this nightmare about missing a rung and slipping about 3/4 of the way back up and my chin catching about every third one on the way down. Bad thing about it is I'm 6'6" and the cage isn't quite big enough so I rap my shins a number of times each trip, two piers same height so when I get rested up from the first trip I gotta do it over again. Nobody else on the other teams wants or will do it so its my baby when its due for a look. As far as going up that ladder with that toolbelt in tow forget it! You'd think they would rig a pulley with a rope to get it up there.

Re: Who Wants A Job!
No way no how, could you ever get me to go 17 feet up that tower nevermind 1700 feet.I work for a scaffold company and we have a scaffold ercection crew that consists of all young guys who do some crazy stuff.
I thought they were nuts on some of the church steeples and swing stages on skyscrapers that we do,but this tower job is well beyond that in the scare factor. |
