76 23' inboard Soft decks

hello I have a 1976 cc 23', and the deck's are soft. What should I do? I have found that the transom is also gone(just the plywood) also the stringer on the starboard side in the stern is rotted so far. Should I try to save the deck or just tear it up and junk it? Also could I repair the stringer or replace the whole thing?

Do yourself a huge favor and read from beginning to end Strick's posting "Here We Go Again!" and then read it again. You will learn all you need to know and more. After that, if you still have a question, post it up and I am virtually positive you will get the answer you are looking for, including decks, stringers and transoms, though ALL three are convered in detail as to problem, solutions, techiques, materials and alternatives. Even a great amount about how the results have worked out!!!! A virtual "What's What" about Seacraft rehabs.

Here's the link.

Good luck and let us know with words and pictures. Some of us do better with pictures, if you know what I mean. :) :) :) :D :D :D

If the decks are soft then the quickest thing to fix them is to tear them completely out. It's easiest to get at the transom from the out side but you will have to spend a good amount of time fairing it smooth. The stringer can most likely be fixed rather then replaced. SeaCrafts have unique stringers that are hardy enough to become fossilized.

As Lance mentioned over the years the members on this site have done just about anything you can dream up in regards to our beloved SeaCrafts. Take the time to do some searches and that should answer some of your basic questions. If you have any more specific and in dept questions then most of us are here to help.

It sounds like you did not have the hull inspected. Maybe you should have bought one in a better state of repair.Anything can be fixed, but if you have to pay someone, it adds up real fast.post some pictures. I am re-powering my 23 savage. I found a solid hull, no issues with transom or decks. Good Luck.

Yes it is that hull! It's a little rough around the edges. I started gutting her and is coming along nicely will start on new transom as soon as time allows and materials show up!! pics will go up once there's progress

One may not consider it true "tuna door" but at Hermco site, pictures tab, third row, first boat, last 5-6 pics.

There is a 23 Diesel for sale with a tuna door in FL, but the boat was re-done here on the Cape. I think it's for sale on this site. I'm sure the current owner could point you to the guy he bought it from.

I think his turned out really well.

Where is the boat on the Cape? I would love to see it. I live in Chatham and may be around this week.
