Sanders
My 6" Rigid RO sander just died this weekend and I did a search of past posts for electric RO sanders with vacuum attachment but did not find anything more recent then 2007.
The Rigid was fine for wood and light fiberglass work but I never found it effective rough sanding with 60 grit. I am working in garage and would like to keep dust to a minimum. Are there any decent reasonalby price electric sanders with decent vacuum attachment |
Re: Sanders
We use porter cable DA 6" sanders. For the value (under $150) they cannot be beat. I had a 6" Festool DA with vacuum on loan for a few months - that was the best sanded I have used, but with dust collector I think it was $700

Re: Sanders
We use the Fein sanders everyday and can't find anything that beats them. a bit heavy and expensive but durability and performance are second to none! Best of luck!

Re: Sanders
I have a Porter Cable #343k 5" RO sander that I put through its paces restoring my Tsunami.I beat this thing to death for almost three years.
If it crapped out now it wouldn't owe me anything,I've already got more that my moneys worth. The kit with the sander and vac attachment is about $50.00 to $60.00. I had to buy an adapter for my shop vac,but it was only around $4.00.The vac attachment works well but ocassionally comes off, although it's not a big deal. For the money it can't be beat. |
Re: Sanders
Porter Cable D/A - for the $ and the beating it takes - thats the one !

Re: Sanders
Good information. I'm in the market for a new sander myself.

I used a friends Festool for the bottom on a 20' a few years back. That thing was awesome! I have a Bosch that comes closer than my Porter Cable and Dewalt but none really match up. :D |
Re: Sanders
I have a Bosch that just crapped out yesterday. Surges in RPM goes up then down :(

Re: Sanders
Very happy with my rigid orbital and 3x18 belt sanders. Bought them refurb, and for the price they have been great.
That said, the festool stuff is amazing. I thought about them just for the dust extraction (i.e. safety first), but then decided to go with the full 3m mask. |

Entourage
Did you have the Bosch 1250 DVS. Reviews were good. locating fitting to connect with shop vac was only major issue I found besides controlling it in the agressive material removal mode. I am going to check it out at Lowes or Sears tomorrow. I have an older Porter Cable 5" sander with stick on sanding discs and the clamp on vacuum attachment. The 5" version was not very stable and the vacuum attachment was difficult to keep in fixed in correct position. |
Re: Sanders
not sure which model it is i will have to check. Seems to only do this after 10 to 15 min use.

Re: Sanders
I bit the bullet and bought the 6 inch Fein and vacumn.Best sander I ever used, a little heavy and produced some vibration though. I went through about 10 coats of bottom paint, approx 8hrs. total time.
