Peanut Island Gathering 6/17-6/18 2011

Alright, it's about time we got started putting these events back together. Now that I am looking for a new boat, I am ready to kick these gatherings back in gear. Please provide your location and date ideas.

How about Destin? There is Rocky Bayou State Park right across Choctawhatchee Bay from East Pass inlet, there is no better spring season fishing in the state, and the spring (break) scenery can be lovely. :D

Moral lesson: When encountering a spectacular example of the opposite gender, remember to give thanks and praise to the Creator. Example: "OOOOOHHHWWWHHHEEE! Way to go, God!"

Just remember to look, but don't touch.

Ahhhh Spring Break 2011. One of the few distractions from boating. Back to our focus.......The Destin trip is doable, Long Point, Ft. Desoto, Key Largo was great, But it seems that the Anclote Key trip keeps coming back to the top??? The island effect of getting away from it all seems like a good draw for members. Any thoughts???

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

The interest is really overwhelming I have talked to a couple members this week and I am getting good feedback. Summer / Fall is the most realistic at this point. But, a few mini gatherings are always welcome. C'mon people SeaCrafts, fishing, adult beverages, hanging out. Is there much more to do.............

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

That island off dunedin would be better than Anclote itself but you can still see it, so its not far - just the facilities and ramp are right there. It would not work in the deep summer I don't think, might be buggy, the eastern tip has plenty of room and is very open to air with trees overhanging so would work later in the year, we just haven't tried it. We went 2 weeks ago and it had multiple groups of people on it, so it is popular. Coming from the south it would be 10/15 miles shorter too.

Desoto with reservations would be a pain and Shell Is would require permits now but not bad - just have to watch the no beer thing but that can't be too bad either

Not interested in Destin, although pretty, at a 9 hr drive I'll go the keys - just say'in

Peanut Island is another option, trying to keep it kinda central in the middle for everybody - anything around Stuart?? closer for Ken and us.

I think it was Wavelength that gave the input from his Coastguard days for our Gatherings to be central to I-4 around an hour north or south on either coast to get the best draw. I have waited 5 years to get a totally useable SC to bring to a gathering. I now have one once again.......finally

Maybe we just need to have a Panhandle gathering for those who don't want to drive 9 hours to St. Pete, or 13 hours to West Palm Beach. Just sayin'.

Maybe April 2?

I found an 18SF in Tallahassee and bought it Monday(nice way to find out if the tires and bearing are ok). It is identical to my other 18SF. I was looking for turn key and I found it, literally the Yamaha key switch is new along with a very clean Saltwater Series 130 Yamaha. 2 baitwells, older clean GPS, Fishfinder, and new VHF with new antennae. Nice alum trailer. Gas tank has been replaced. Deck needs a new nonskid, but no soft spots. I just did a shake down cruise today for 4 hours till 7:30 tonight and so far so good (caught a bonnethead shark near Briguys in Terra Ceia Bay). I almost went 3 days NOT owning a SeaCraft, what a nightmare!! :o :o :D :D.

I'll be in the Keys for a few weeks again this summer, so a gathering here is convienient. I'm not opposed to putting her on wheels for a couple of days either. I'll watch from the sidelines and see how this shapes up. The only thing I know about Florida is it takes a while to get to the Keys. Exploring might be interesting - as long as there are fish.

Makes sense - just a point - the Dunedin site is easier for east coast guys to get to than Anclote due to I4 access even though Anclote is north no easy way to get there even for me, this would be due west of Tampa, Desoto adds another 30mi. Another nice aspect we found - its at the end of the channel to the bait shop - bathrooms - ice and fuel - like 5 minutes straight in and its WOT, so maybe less LOL.

Any east coast interest at all?? there or here?? boatpooling would make some sense too, if traveling, just bring 1 boat

I may be interested in going. I would be heading there from Stuart. I would love to get to meet all the Seacraft club before I sell my boat this summer...

Though I love the Seacraft I am working on a 27 Phoenix that will take its place for a while when it is put together.

I have never been to a gathering but I would love to go to one . I travel back and forth from palm beach to key largo . Peanut island would be cool. Scenery is usually good there on Sunday's .

Just back from the Peanut Island site. 20 campgrounds with pad, grill, and hot showers. All may only be booked 3 mos. in advance. Only 2 per household so we need to organize a time to pounce or we won`t have tickets to the fair.

It`ll be June before we know it.

The Sailing Club may have room for rigs `n trailers. I have a friend who lives close by and he knows a few of their pirates.

We must once again set the bar for our Northern Patriots.

Run `n Gun but the DoDo`s should be around.

Cheers,
GFS

It's very short notice but the palm beach boat show is march 24h through the 27th . You can go to it by water and it's a short ride south in the intercostal from peanut .

Sandy-We have talked about Peanut Island way too long without making it happen. It looks like we have 2 places one that ESD has scouted off the Dunedin Causeway and Peanut Island. I say we make both locations happen. Peanut Island will be the tougher to set-up with reservations, so maybe push it to Oct./Nov.. Input??

allenandrew 03-09-2011 04:13 PM

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

If you want to camp at peanut island that will be tough . But there's a lot of first come first serve pavilions all over the island. If one person comes early in the morning and locks one down that might be good enough for a gathering. I know this might not work well for people planning on staying overnight though. There's also a lot of bars with docks all along the intercostal. Maybe we could meet at peanut and do a little cruise. Just a thought .

East for the spring run, West for fall?

Danny,
Let me make a few calls and pound on some doors. Mid/early May would be perfect for the DoDo`s and give us a good chance of not being blown out. Set a time, set a place, and enjoy.

Let`s get organized! Makes no sense to tow cross state as we always have too many boats, and too few fisher folks. Heck, we have too many boats over here. ;)

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

The required 3 months reservations in advance puts us at June 11th. If Spring/Summer is our time, then at this point, we may need a week to get everyone together and all of us call on Friday 3/18 of next week to reserve our spot when they open at 2pm. I have not been able to find the price per night. There is beach camping on the west side away from the 20 spot campground for those that miss the initial spots. The dates would be 6/17-6/19. Check your calendars. I will try to talk to the park ranger later today.

gofastsandman 03-11-2011 06:18 PM

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

You can only make reservations up to 90 days out. I.E. you can`t make them a year out so this may work to our benefit.
Called the office and their message says it may be 2 days before a response.

Spoke w/ Bill, my friend by the sailing club. He is getting contacts. I hope to take him fishing Sunday if it ain`t a blowin`. The heck with the poll, lets make this happen!

Onward and Upward,
GFS

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

Sandy-

I talked to Kathy today on the camping details. Your right on the 90 days/3month deal. It's $23.95 plus tax per night. You have to call no sooner than 12:01AM, yes AM, on 3/17 to reserve for Friday AND Sat nights 6/17 and 6/18. If your only going Sat night, then it's 12:01AM on the 3/18 NOT 3/17. If you call at 11:59pm or 12:00am you are considered to be calling for the PRIOR DAY 3/16 and you will NOT be able to get the 6/17 and 6/18 FRI and SAT Combo. The 1st 20 people to leave their name, best phone number(s) to be reached, the dates, and the camp sites preferred(see the web site to view site#'s)get in. The voicemail is time stamped and 5 people can leave a message at 1 time. So, by 12:05 the camp grounds could be booked. It is an amazing camping area and I think it's worth the hassle. Input please!!

Danny - for anyone that doesn't want to camp, there used to be a convenient motel right next to the North Palm Beach Marina on US 1 where the ICW enters Lake Worth. It's the building at the extreme left center of the picture with the red tile roof. Only about a 10 minute run to Peanut Island from there. Will see if I can find out more info on it tomorrow. Denny

Danny,
Interesting intel.
I got a message from some gal with a very heavy Asian accent. Very hard to follow, but as an aside my laptop is running faster. I`ll see if I can get a hold of Kathy today.

Yes you can! That's the best way to get the reservations done. Kathy at Peanut Island will call each person back within 2 days to get payment info.. I will report some of the camping amenities and dockage details tomorrow, or read it from the link Sandy posted

Bushwacker 03-13-2011 01:35 AM

Re: CSC Florida Gathering 2011 - Need Ideas

There are several hotels/motels on Singer Island, but the larger ones on the beach are a pretty good hike from the only marina that I know of, the Sailfish Marina. Might be some smaller mom & pop places in Palm Beach Shores within a couple blocks of Sailfish. I'll look into that. Dockage is also available at the Riviera Beach Marina, but don't know of any motels close by on the mainland, and I would not recommend walking around in Riviera Beach after dark anyway! BTW, a water taxi makes trips to Peanut Island from both the Sailfish and Riviera Beach Marina's during the day, so folks would NOT need a boat to come to this gathering, even if you were camping! There is never any shortage of boats at these gatherings, so if you need a ride, that's not a problem!

I checked on the motel next to the North Palm Beach Marina today. It's the Camelot Motor Lodge, 1000 U.S. Hwy 1, just south of the Parker Bridge over the ICW, and 100 yds or so up the hill from marina. My buddy Harry has stayed there before; it's not fancy, maybe about 20 rooms, but it's clean, has a swimming pool and is in a nice area. There is a new restaurant on the premises, plus the NPB Country Club is right across the street, with a dining room open to the public.

Asked the manager Michael about rates for June and he quoted me a rate of $59/night. Phone is 561-626-7200. You might be able to negotiate a better rate for specific dates/number of days, etc. They don't have a web site, but I could get some photos of the place if anyone is interested. Also checked with the marina to see if they had any open/transient slips available, as it's typically full this time of year. The dockmaster said they have transient slips available, at $1.75/ft/day. Denny

Spoke w/ Kathy today and you can reserve 2 sites per call. The office is open `til 9pm and you can come by boat on Fri. night to get beach sites. The beach sites are tide dependent. No full moon.

Stopped by the Sailing Club and they have room, but it`s all filled with puffers.

Went by the Flotilla Club and they have roooooom. Neat folks too. They are having a board meeting in 3 weeks and will confirm. Mark, my contact, thinks we`re in like flint.

How many will need rig storage? How many local boats will attend?

Our Northern Brethren must be seething. Covered in two stories of snow, with time on their hands, and they still can`t pull it off. Now I have to do some bright work. :o

Cheers to all,
GFS
