Barrier Coat

Anyone know how many gallons is needed for Intercote 2000e barrier coat @ 4 coats or 10 mils on a 23?

Re: Barrier Coat

23' x 8' = 184 sq ft. approximately. (increased beam mesurement[the draft] compensated by tapering at the bow) 184 sq ft/coat

Look at the can and it should give you the coverage square footage in the can or per gallon. Figure it out from there.

Yeah right, he's still trying to calculate his Cholesterol Levels after sucking down Mickey D's & Old Milwaukee Light for a week in Florida

Finny,

Thanks for the comment.

A 23' Seacraft has approixmately 185 sq ft. of hull surface. Call customer support at Interlux and ask them to tell you what is the "out of the can coverage" of a gallon of their product and how thick (in mils.) does the product typically setup at. Take the coverage area/gallon and your calculator, then divide the coverage area/gallon by 185 and the answer will tell you how many gallons you will need to cover the hull. If it sets up at less than 10 mils, then you will need additional product.

Ex. If you want coverage at 10 mils and it goes on at 5 mils then you will need 2 coats. (10 divided by 5 = 2)

Get the picture?

Good luck. Call with any questions- 978-363-5161.

2g of grey and 1g of white...alternate the colors...start with grey-each g should give you 2 coats-using foam rollers...bear this in mind when you mix the epoxy...interprotect 2000e-it allows you a 2 week time span before sanding is needed...
the idea of alternating coats-to be assured of complete coverage...

it's not the amount of coats-but the thickness of the coats, that's important-tape the areas around the blocks back approx 2",this will assure you,to have the epoxy to coat epoxy on,rather then antifouling paint...use the tape as a guide for thickness-10mil is basically a matchbook cover thickness...

What's the calculation for beer for this project?

Fr. Frank 03-07-2011 05:42 PM

Re: Barrier Coat

Gathering materials = 1 beer
Taping the waterline before starting on hull: Two sides+ one transom = 3 beers

Gathering materials = 1 beer

Prepping the hull: Sanding two sides X six planing surfaces = 12 beers., Sanding the six vertical chines (including hull sides) = 6 beers.

Priming: One coat X six planing surfaces + six vertical chines + one transom = 13 beers.

Painting: four coats X six planing surfaces + six vertical chines + one transom = 52 beers

Painting spots where boat supports have been = 2 beers

Admiring/bemoaning your handi-work between coats and when finished = 18 beers.

TOTAL BEER REQUIRED: 96 Beers.

Note: each additional qawker and other observers should require the same amount of beer in order to remain in complete sympathy with boat owner and painter.
