Welcome to CSC george....

Your HIN indicates your hull was a Savage model (G)
built in 1978!

Pre-73 (before 12-character HINs) there is no formal decoder, although I would guess the first 2 digits in your serial # are the size/length and the last 3 are the hull #.

Looks like a partial HIN. The F is the model and 008 is the hull #. You should have 3 more letters before the F and 4 more numbers after the 8 for a complete HIN.

Sounds like you guys know your numbers-
I have a 1976 23' #SE CA 30300376.
Any insight on the hull? Thanks.

When the story on reel smoker was done was there any background info? I know a few of you guys know the boat. It would be nice to get the title straight

tbag,
When I posted above I realized I missed the number 3 after the F. If I remember correctly, F refers to the "fisherman" or "super fisherman" model, a.k.a. center console. The number 3 refers to hull length (23) and 008 is the hull # for that model year. Are you missing the remainder of the ID #?

Sounds like you have a state-issued HIN then. Those typically have nothing to do with the manufacturer's info for the boat.
