20ft scuppers
I have seen a picture somewhere of a guy who crossed his scupper tubes, exiting them out the back of the hull. I am wondering if this is possible without raising the floor? Without cutting the deck up?
Anybody got a link? |
Re: 20ft scuppers
EI'VE got a 82 the s uppers exit the transome with a tube run from the cockpit to the transome I've nit had the boat in the water
don't know if it a problem how would they be run otherwise? http://i782.photobucket.com/albums/y...t/c6b90b4f.jpg |
Re: 20ft scuppers
Run the starboard deck drain to port scupper and vice versa.
The genius of Mr. Moesly. When standing in the starboard corner, the incoming water has to go uphill to the port deck drain to ingress. Not so easy going uphill. Simple and brilliant. Ping pong scuppers help lots as well. Cheers, GFS |
Re: 20ft scuppers
Is there enough 'pitch' to run them out the back of the transom from deck level? Will they be below the waterline?

Re: 20ft scuppers
Ping pong scupper? I understand the ball plugging the drain when the water pushes it up. Simplest version of a check valve. Sounds like this is the least work for the scuppers at the water line problem. Anyone have a link to buy them?

Re: 20ft scuppers
They will only work if the ball is OUT of the water the majority of the time. If there isnt enough pitch from under the deck out to the transom (or if it ends up below the water line) than its not even worth doing.

Re: 20ft scuppers
Light motors and dedicated pumps keep them dry.
My Slacker has factory mods from some who came before me and were smarter than I. Merritt boys? Don`t know. Weights and measures are key here. Think light and CG. Cheers, GFS |
Re: 20ft scuppers
the ball style do not work as I imagined, time for some waterline measurements and a chalk line I suppose

Re: 20ft scuppers
Could there be a problem with my set up? I havnt had the boat in the water yet. Perhas the crises hoses is a petter idea.

Re: 20ft scuppers
My MA has them going down to below and exit under the hull not to the transom I wonder how that's going to work? Easy enough to plug them up if needed.
Can others chine in on this? |
Re: 20ft scuppers
i have ping pongs on my 20, cant wait to get rid of them,im always trying to unclog them

Re: 20ft scuppers
Hey eyez where on cape are you? is there a chance we could take a look? Are the balls below the water? do they exit out the transom or somewhere else?

Re: 20ft scuppers
I had the 3" ray buds on my inboard they worked good. If you trailer your boat crud is really a non issue. Make sure you install them right some balls were weighted and some not. Wild did you raise your deck or is it stock height, your bracket should give you some stern lift and help with self-bailing. I think with your set-up that is similar to a Regulator's 6" oval just a rubber flapper would work or those sea stop flappers. The large ping pongs are noisy but you can push them into the seal to plug at anchor giant fishing then un-plug when running. Did Bobby spray it I would like to check it out some day..

Re: 20ft scuppers
This is actually on a buddys 20' that dosnt need a deck replacement. I am trying to figure out if there is enough height (pitch) to just pop scuppers in the transom and pipe to under side of the deck, or if they will be constantly underwater. I would love to cross them as has been suggested by other guys on here as having 2 'husky' guys on one side of the boat gets a little spooky at times. I like things to be 'idiot proof' and remembering to plug the OEM scuppers is not.
The scuppers on my 23 are simple weighted doors as my deck goes all the way back to the transom, simple. Bob should have shot coat #2 yesterday, I am headed over today to take a look. Its getting close to coming out of the shop and I am getting antsy! If you see it in the yard, swing by any time! |
