Changes

hello all-

After over 10 years I think it is time for a change

for the past month behind the scenes the CSC forum has been getting a facelift and update.

We are updating the forum software to the the latest offering from vBullien. This will allow many new features including loading photos from your computer, reviewing forum topics with a mouse over in the main forum, and TONS of other stuff that I likely will have no idea how to use...but hopefully you all will.

One BIG change is relates to this forums display name vs registered name, yes this(the old) forum allows you to register with one name but in the forum another name is seen.

Unfortunately vBulletin has no provision for separate names. In the new ClassicSeacraft world, you are who you are. In this case, everyone is identified by their registered names. At import the choices are to drag them in by one or the other and we went with registered.

So if you have 2 names the one that will be seen in the new forum is the one you register with, we can change this after the import but keep in mind when we change you viewed name THAT will now be the name you register with.

The migration is happening over this weekend so....some of your posts from this eve on MAY be lost, sorry in advance but we are trying to do this late night with minimum users

Also i do not want to take credit for this, yes i paid for it well...the people the placed ads for boats paid for it and I filled the difference....but I did not do the work I hired member "Valiant" to do this and I really want to thank him publicly for his help, he is a genius and one of the easiest people I have worked with in a while, so....John THANKS!!

Hey, Trayder. Just wanted to thank you for all your hard work keeping this forum going. I sent you some cabbage to help out. (Just hope I'm smart enough to figure out how to use it after the changes). Boo! :D

Good Deal J, I scooted thru some of the features on the beta test. As discussed, I didn't see the Admin & User section?

BTW: I hope YOU don't lose your "Velvet Jones" recognition

Re: Changes

You mean "Uncleboo" won't be Uncleboo anymore????

Everything else sounds great and looking forward to seeing the New CSC!
Thanks Jason....as always, a great job.

Nice work J..
Looking forward to the new learning curve! :D
The only problem I see with a late night change over
is the "Egg Dog" may suffer some sort of withdrawal.. as that is the time he is
usually online.

Now, for "To tell the truth" will the real Spidercrab please step forward..  :D

See ya, Ken

Hey Ken, I think the early morning hours are when "Egg Dog" gets into the spiked Egg Nog!! Ya know Christmas will be here soon and he wants to be ready for Santa :) However if Santa really is checking his list twice, ESD may be in a bit of trouble......even though he tries to live under the radar..

You're very welcome. And thank you for those kind words. You have a great community here and I hope everyone likes the new accommodations! :)

No you can now move them to you avatar or you may need to change your sig as the image commands are different

Valiant_200 09-24-2011 01:41 PM

Wow, some of the avatars imported from the old system are HUGE!!

The new limits are 100x100 with a maximum file size of 80k. If that is too small it can be adjusted.

So, this baby Harp Seal walks into a club............

I think I know who Spidey is, but it would be criminal to destroy such a beautifully fleshed out character.

Can I put up an Avatar from photobucket?

Thanks Valliant. Are you from Plymouth?

Yes, you can link avatars from other sites, or upload an image from your own computer.

Heh, actually I grew up not far from Plymouth, MA.

Just my own personal opinion. I think the Avatars should all be a uniform size...otherwise when reading posts you get lost when you come to those big pictures it is hard to follow.

I totally agree. In fact I just deleted my old avistar from my profile because it was so huge and was distracting.

McGillicuddy 09-25-2011 01:43 PM

Nice job on the seamless transition to vBul. Ditto on overwhelming size, but 100 x 100 might be a bit small for my aging eyes. Some of these bums have some interesting avatars... but regardless, the content is what keeps me coming back.

Thanks again Trayder, Valliant, et. al.

100% agree trying to figure that out now

Thanks for all the compliments.

If everyone can reach a consensus, setting a maximum size is really very simple. I set 100x100 because that is what I used for other boards and I needed a number, but it can be any size you want. :)

Hi all,
Great Job on the new site!! Thank you all for all your hard work!

DonV 09-30-2011 03:09 PM

Hey Dixon, I forget how many "atta a boys" get wipped out with just one "aw shit"?? I'm thinking a bunch.

ocuyler 10-03-2011 07:50 PM

65Bowrider 10-03-2011 08:19 PM

Cool new look but I do have a question.... Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or haven't found it but with the old version I was able to go to the first unread post now I either have to start from the beginning or go backwards to find where I left off is there a setting for that
Thanks
Matt

At the top of the post on the left side, just under the "reply" button, there's a link that says "View first unread". That will get you there. If there's a way to set your preferences to do that automagically, I haven't found it.
Dave

I had the same problem. You can also click on the check beside the subject header and it'll take you right to it.
