All this info and a wealth of personal knowledge available here in one place. I am new here but have owned and repaired many a sea craft in my 59 years of life and boating. I assisted one of my sons Lonesurfer 87 a member here in his 20 ft very custom sea craft 2 years ago. I have always been torn between the 233 formula hull and the very different 20 and 23 sea craft hull that both give about the best ride a hull in this size can give. I have also been very involved in both boat building and boat repairs and modifications for many years. I hope I can add some valuable info here to make up for all the info and experience that is available on this site. One thing I hope to bring here is that in the past I and many others used plywood. and it can be used properly. I now prefer both coosa and penske board over plywood. I also believe balsa cores are not good for boats. Too many people are adding or repairing things on boats that end up drilling into and not sealing or bedding screws that penetrate into where both balsa and plywood is under glass. Thanks again classic sea craft and all members. I will start a thread in a couple days on the very custom 20 I have just started this week. There was actually a chicken living and laying eggs in the center console of this boat before I started on it. I hope she found a better home?

Funny! When I approached my uncle about buying the 18, a duck had laid some eggs in the splashwell and my uncle said I couldn't take the boat until the eggs hatched!

Hey Hey Bly, The owner of that 20 came and saw me at the dock right after we talked, then I saw him again togging two days ago. He was saying you guys settled on an integrated bracket, cutting 8-10" out of the console, losing casting deck, adding coffin, losing jump seats, 70 gal.tank, cutting the liner and bracing the hull sides, raising the floor pitched fore and aft, bringing the floor all the way out to the hull, 200 etec probably

Bruce I am taking so much weight out of this boat in the past 3 days that I was afraid all the high winds might blow it off the fork lift today. What is the fastest mph one of these 20s has done in the past? I found My sons with the 140 zuke was more then fast enough for me. under the deck today I found a 1/2 doz wasp nest also? I do not think this boat saw the water for many years?

Your son`s 20 was very pretty and I heard she came south. Did a fly guide get her? That open lay out screamed Fly Me.

Please post some pics of your 27 hybrid project. You have an eye for beauty and function.

NoBones worked Merc @ 230 hp + at the prop touches low 60`s. His tabs are 18", and he uses them.

greasy slick calm day on the ICW, 63 mph on the Garmin GPS!
A little spooky cause the only thing in the water is the tabs..
No hook in the bottom either!
Keep in mind this carbed 200 HP Merc motor has been heavily
worked over from outa the box... It is 1999 and still runs strong..

It did not go south from us? It went north to marthas vinyard. The guy that bought it tho, had no time all summer to use it so maybe he took it south once his ferry service slowed down from the busy season.

wow 63 MPH. I have been there and know what you mean about spooky. I have felt like the boat was just going to go over back wards if I went 1 mph faster. That was in a very very light 15 hobie skiff w a 70 hp yam worked a bit. But your boat with a T top and 40 gal of fuel is impressive. This boat I am doing now will have No T top because of the type fishing he wants to do. with possibly a 200 etec

I just speed read through some of your past post and ended up spending way too much time looking at your past projects. Now I have to double time on the 20 because of all the time I took reading your pets info.

There are a few fast ones I remember going on over the years.

When I was a kid I used to work on a MA that some guy stuck a old 235 Johnson on the transom and it used to do mid 50's for mph light with a t-top.

I used to fish on 2 bracketed 20's down south. Neither had a t-top, one had a late 80's 225 Merc that was a fresh rebuild, the other had a 175 omc oceanrunner that was a little tired.

The one with the 225 was an easy 60mph boat and still spun a few hundred rpm to many. Even more impressive too me than running almost completely out of the water at wot was the acceleration. If you tapped the throttle a little to hard that boat would try to run right out from under you. A Merc. just looks 'right' on an old SC, and that sound sure can't be matched, you guys are right on.

The one with the 175 60deg. carbed looper was the finest all around running 20' I have ever been on. The boat was slightly underpropped and the boat would hit 52 mph, no tabs, no major playing with weight distribution. That's the motor I'd like to get next, I've been trying to buy one that my buddy has had forever at his marina.

Jay, I told Carmen if he stuck that 200 etec on a bracketed 20, especially with what you're cutting out, it would be a 60 mph boat for all purposes. Well at least it would be when it's "oil slick" calm.

Bly, I know this isn`t CF , but I think you`ll find we like all kinds of cool boats.

I saw Staluppi`s 142 ft mega yacht that does mid 60`s. I spoke with a couple of Capt`s who thought it would come apart. Gas turbines on jet drives.

Hope you post some photos of Carmens boat during the restore, I enjoyed the photos of your sons 20 you posted on the other site....The past week I have seen more SeaCrafts on the water than during the summer, the other day Tog fishing there were only about 4-5 boats out behind AC and 4 were SeaCraft 20s....I got to flag these guys down and get them to show up next summer for the gathering....
