Zuke 140 props

Anyone running a Zuke DF140 on their 20SF? If so, what props are you using?
Thanks!

countshock 04-30-2012 06:39 PM

No one has a suzuki DF140?

ScottM 05-01-2012 08:29 AM

Two that come to mind are former owners but perhaps they recall what they were running...Trayder and Mark. Maybe you could PM them?

countshock 05-01-2012 02:42 PM

Thanks ScottM!

Bushwacker 05-01-2012 03:57 PM

Capt. Lloyd also has a 140 Zuke on a 20 sf, with a bracket on it. Unless your min planing speed is down around 12-13 mph, you might want to consider a 4B prop to get a little more stern lift to offset motor weight. 4B props might lose a couple mph top end, but will typically improve cruise mpg and reduce mid-range throttle sensitivity, especially in following seas. I think that's a good trade. You also need to make sure motor height is correct before you start switching props. Top of the anti-ventilation plate should be above the water when you're up on plane and trimmed out where you normally run.

Im using a Four blade Zuke prop 16x21 but thats for a 175foursrtroke. cheers

ScottM 05-02-2012 08:19 AM

No problem. Are you heading out of Edg Harbor in your sig pic? I fish the Derby from shore every year and spend most of my time on Chappy so that view is familiar.

CaptLloyd 05-02-2012 07:14 PM

I'm running a 3 blade SS PTR Powertech Prop . It's 13.5X18P. I raised my motor, now I'm turning too many RPM's (6300+). A 19 pitch should be about right.

I hope this info helps.

Lloyd

I have a Df140 on a 20 foot Seacraft. I'm using a Suzuki SS 14 X 20 three blade and it will turn up to 6150 with a good load on it. Comes out of the hole easily and holds plane at 13K (no tabs). You don't need a 4 blade prop to offset this 410 Lb engine unless you're wayyyy back on a bracket. You should be very happy with this choice of prop.

countshock 05-04-2012 08:32 PM

Bushwacker, thanks for that. Yeah, I'm planning on shaking her down with the stock prop, then trying to fine tune. i hope to splash next week, then we can start figuring things out. I just finished installing trim tabs as well, so I have a lot to figure out.

ScottM, yeah, that's E-ville harbor. Did we exchange a few pms a few years ago regarding the Derby? Either way, shoot me one this year, maybe I can get you out on the water. The last day of the derby this year (snotty, windy) in edgartown outer harbor was an absolute albie slaying morning. I was the only boat out there until 10 am or so, and everyone missed it. Best albie day of my life.
Thanks for that Llyod!
HeadHunter, yeah, I have both batteries forward, as well as a new gas tank that has been slid a few inches forward, so I'm not too worried about weight. My old motor was about 380, so I don't think 420 or so will be that bad.

ScottM 05-05-2012 12:35 PM

We may have exchanged PMs before but I will definitely ping you later this year. I'm heading over 9/13-9/16 and staying on Chappy. Last year was the first time I didn't fish the Derby since '94 so I'm dying to get back. I target albies so it'll be interesting to see how this year stacks up. Thanks for the offer to get out with you, hopefully it works out. My brother would be tagging along too if that's not a problem??

countshock 05-05-2012 01:45 PM

Sounds good Scott, hopefully we can make it work! No prob to bring your bro. I had a couple of 6 albie mornings without even leaving the harbor, so hopefully we get a year like that again. I usually take a week off of work for the derby, but I'm not sure which week yet.

ran a 14x20 ss suzuki prop turned 6150 and pinned at 42 mph. also ran a 14x22 ss powertech. turned 6000 and topped out at 45. could only run that prop with one guy and empty livewell.

countshock 05-13-2012 07:53 PM

Thanks for that Billy!
Just splashed the boat today, still breaking the motor in.
I think the dealer has mounted the motor too low, tilted all the way down, the pee-hole
and exhaust port are bubbling in the water. If I tilt up a bit, all is fine, but that seems too close for comfort. I won't really know until I'm able to really get her up on plane, and see what my RPMs are, but I think it may be a hole or two too low. Boat is still self bailing, but it seems a bit sluggish and squatty. then again, I need to complete break-in before my opinion is really valid.

countshock 05-15-2012 09:43 PM

Llyod, I thought 6300 was within the range for this motor? Or is it 6200?

Hi Billy,
Could you explain what you mean here. I would think with that prop you would be within rpm range with a bigger load? Trying to iron all this out because I will probably go with the 140 myself.
Thanks

CaptLloyd 05-16-2012 09:56 PM

My motor is a 2003, and manual says 5600-6200 max rpm. BTW, gear ratio for '03 is 2.38. Prop SS 13.5X18 Powertech PTR 3 blade Before I raised the motor, max was 6200, light load.

I stated in my post after I raised my motor 6300"+". Well I decided to see what "+" was (frankly, I was worried to push it up). With half load (1/2 fuel, 2 adults, 2 kids) I turned 6500 rpm/ 39 mph.

Prop is being repitched, I'll post new number when I get it back.

Lloyd

countshock 05-17-2012 06:01 PM

Yeah, I double checked my manual, 6200 rpm it is. I'm finally done with the first 3 hrs of break-in, so I'll be spooling her up this weekend. What kind of speeds are you all getting?

countshock 05-30-2012 08:47 AM

Ok, so she's turning up to 6400 RPMs easy with a full tank of fuel and one person, I was too scared to to push it any more than that. The cavitation plate is definitely under water when running. My gps has seen a top speed of 30.5 kts. Seems a bit slow to me.
The boat is in the water, so I haven't had a chance to see what prop is on there now.

countshock 07-04-2012 09:16 AM

Finally hauled boat for first service. Cavitation plate is a hair below the bottom of keel. The prop is a Zuke aluminum 3 blade. 14x17. I'm assuming that I need to raise engine up first, then start messing with props?

Mark 07-04-2012 03:46 PM

SS 14x20 worked pretty well on mine. With 70 gallons in the tank, t-top, two people, flat water, WOT was right at 41/42mph (GPS kind of waffled back/forth between 41/42mph).

countshock 07-05-2012 02:07 PM

Thanks for that Mark!
