Egmont Key next week

I know it's going to be insane next week, but I have to get my new to me 79 Sceptre broken in! Who is Interested?

doodlebug 06-29-2012 12:56 AM

We will be around Anclote on the 4th, chasing grouper weather permitting and hanging out at my buddies houseboat.

doodlebug 06-29-2012 04:23 PM

Danny, what does the new boat look like?

Snookerd 06-29-2012 08:35 PM

Duane-

I just figured out the new forum picture process! Take a look in the photo section. I need to make the size bigger on the pics

Your squids are having a great spring. Tall corn indeed. Very nice

Cheers,

It has been awhile since our southern crew has convened..:confused:
We need to throw something together!! :)
Enjoy the new ride Danny.. wish we could make the trip and join you.

Snookerd 06-30-2012 02:32 PM

Ken- yea it does feel a little like a gathering weekend ;). Have a great time, but keep a spot open for later this year. Ft. Desoto is 6 months out for reservations still! Changed the VRO pump.... And now the perko switch died. 1 yr old batteries fully charged not getting any juice to motah. Switch was already very hard to turn, so hopefully that solves the mystery. With a couple axles and hubs I will not have any gremlins for a while hopefully.

eggsuckindog 06-30-2012 04:18 PM

We're due for an Egmont run now that the weather settled

Anclote tomorrow - Susan's dying to see how the storm moved the sand around

Snookerd 06-30-2012 04:46 PM

Dixon-That sounds good! I'm getting nowhere on my elec issue

I hate electric - wouldn't know an OHM if it bit me on the ankle - I will say though get a 12V tester with the ice pick end $5 - make a wire long enough to go from a known good ground like the battery even and you can trace down power easy. Only works on little stuff but very helpful, I even carry one on the boat for bilge pump, bait pump or light issues, saves a day sometimes.

re- read your post above, I hate to bring this up but - based on that boat, there might some connection between the helm and the motor its a long run. I would go get that tester though, you could find out if power is getting anywhere back there - start at the front at the key and switch, try and follow the power back - you will lose it somewhere and it then will be in between. Sure helps narrow the search down. Might even be a bad key switch, thats why I said start the front.

Isolate and Eliminate

Change out the ignition switch as well. Known culprit. 29 clams. Turn the drain hole down on the unit before insertion and tightening of the nut. Also pull and clean the elecs on the back of the motah.

Boom boom,

Sandy-Thanks for the info. I did get the juice back going. Battery connections and a new perko switch did the trick. Check the photos thread for additional info from today. I am going to try to post a video of the motor running to get some advice on the missing that can be detected. Carbs were cleaned last year and timing reset, flywheel removed and all contacts cleaned.

doodlebug 07-06-2012 04:02 AM

Those had problems with the magnets in the flywheel shifting, omc made a kit to secure them.

Snookerd 07-06-2012 07:30 AM

Good info Duane! Thanks. How was your 4th? How are the opti's running the boat?

Snookerd 07-06-2012 07:44 AM

One idea that was said is that there is a relay in the shifter when put in neutral or just shifting gears that may be killing it?

eggsuckindog 07-06-2012 11:12 AM

shift interupter is what its called - both that and the magnets could be it but throwing parts at these usually gets expensive

doodlebug 07-08-2012 01:07 AM

Danny, they have been great,we have put well over 300 miles on them in the last two months. The 4th we fished 55 feet nw of anclote 4 keeper red grouper then met up with my high school buddies and we fried grouper on the beach in preperation for fireworks.

eggsuckindog 07-08-2012 01:14 AM

Hey Doodle headin up to Anclote tomorrow again - you gonna be around?

Snookerd 07-08-2012 01:47 PM

I bet Anclote is rockin today! I went out in the 1953 Alumacraft with 25 Johnson and had a blast over the 4th. We went up the Manatee River about 10 miles to a friends house and just floated upriver while jet skis and wake boarding was going on. I will be out to Egmont Key hopefully in the next week. I am planning on sleeping on the boat on the inside beach area if anyone is game later in the month.

doodlebug 07-08-2012 02:14 PM

We are Wednsday boaters our Saturday, the mail must go out.

dave3fl 07-08-2012 05:39 PM

we will prob be at egmont next weekend. got an electrical gremlin i need to track down this week. engine runs but no radio, lights, blower, etc and gauges are giving crazy readings. gonna start with the grounds and go from there. I hate electrical problems...

eggsuckindog 07-11-2012 05:02 PM

Might be out there

eggsuckindog 07-14-2012 10:14 PM

will definately be out there 1 to 2 - post which end/side or call me or call 813 695 0482 and tell me if you look in the AM - we are not crack of dawn types - just say'in

Snookerd 07-16-2012 08:56 PM

Dixon-I was over in Jupiter last weekend, so I missed the Egmont trip. How is your boat running? I spoke to GFS today about my shift interrupter on the Sceptre. When I was out testing the boat the other week, I really enjoyed getting that big girl up and running. She feels incredibly responsive and nimble for 23 ft.

eggsuckindog 07-16-2012 09:03 PM

You didn't miss a thing - we didn't make it LOL going to take in tomorrow, I have an issue when its cold not picking up a cylinder for like 10 minutes then runs great all day. Then it stopped doing it on cold start so couldn't take it in - been consistent 3 times so maybe it will do it. Can't find it when its running perfect

Snookerd 07-16-2012 09:16 PM

I'm getting a trailer axle and may be out in my alumacraft tomorrow.

Briguy 07-31-2012 03:41 PM

I should be at eggmont this Saturday or Sunday, whichever is calmer. Our son Jack has taken a shining to snorkeling. He loves the rock pile on the west side of eggmont.

There are still Tarpon rolling out there. I'll be in my 21 Maverick.

dave3fl 08-04-2012 07:31 PM

Anybody available to do Egmont next weekend (11 & 12)? Pending Ernesto of course....

dave3fl 08-09-2012 08:26 PM

Ok I will be at Egmont on Saturday...Hopefully I will see some of you guys there

Maverick?
What, No Hells Bay.....
Scott & Troy still building those things...
When they bought Bob Hewes out and did away with the lapstrake
that was the end of an era...
The Bonefisher has not been the same..
Still the best looking, best performing skiff ever!!
Take care of little Jack, He is the man...;)

And give him a Kazoo.

I still have a Cap`t friend looking for an `ole lappy resto project or something nicer.

Has to be a lappy.

Any Cracker help?

Air can come from pumps or tanks. Tanks can stay on the boat.

Cracker Air still rules.

School starts on Monday.

Cheers,
Us

DonV 08-10-2012 08:16 AM

Hey Ken....you are so correct!! I would not trade my old '98 Bonefisher for any other skiff, I,m too stuck on the lappy design.

Seeya

Snookerd 09-05-2012 06:20 PM

The ole girl is getting a link n sync on the 225 and new trailer axles, springs, spring sliders, ect.. Eggmont is getting closer to reality! Next week I'll be out there!

I will be there before you...

:)! Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black.....Ohhhh yea--- I have agreat idea Ken! Maybe Corbin can help you finish the 27 by interning with you and Kenny while getting his Masters in Naval Architecture in 2016! Ouch! :)

I deserve that though. I'm going to spend some serious time straightening out my priorities while anchored on the Gulf side of that little slice of paradise. And yes a part of my diabolical plan is to assemble a dream team of future VDR architects By having the Wood kids get the necessary education to carry on Carl's perfect hull design.

Snookerd 09-05-2012 09:29 PM

NoBones 09-05-2012 09:31 PM

gofastsandman 09-05-2012 09:35 PM

He has eyes for that SeaMaster no doubt.

I think so,
GFS
