The transaction is complete. Thanks Robert. VRO pump will be changed in the AM. She made it over the Skyway easily. Newer Awl Grip finish. New non-skid on deck/cap/floor. NEW TRANSOM. Custom bench seat. Lots of upgrades! I'm thinking..........I have a boat resembling a Bahamas boat! I'm looking forward to the shake down cruise. Possible maiden voyage tomorrow.

Here are a couple initial pictures:

Nicely done. VRO rehab is quick and easy if the motah has not overheated in the past...

A kit is 62 clams and very easy on the scale o `motor. Finger tip with the screw Driver.

Look at the threads. Think.

Cheers,
gfs

Thanks Sandy! It's set up for premix so, I am only interested in the fuel pump side. I am doing a trade out in the AM from a 175 motah. I like your price for the rebuild..........I am just glad to be waay less than $350 to $450. You shopping for a Sceptre?

With my challenged ankles and heels no. The fix is so simple, it will blow you away.

Less than 1 hour as we had friends from Vt, who were nervous. Sea tow brought us in and I had us up and runnin` that night. Early too.

Good motah that I know a thing or two about.

Cheers,
GFS

I know I make no sense, but I am stilll.

A no eye deer.

With no sight.

And no feet.

I have still no eye dear,

Cheers,
GFS

Great looking ride!! Thats a great family fishing machine with great space to start gag season.

gofastsandman 06-29-2012 11:44 PM

When you look at the threads of the VRO, you must think of fingertip torque. Be gentle.

Keep your fingers on top of the pump. The spring will release easily with patience.

Go slowly. A new diaphram will bring your motah happinesss. Change the pulse piston o ring as well. In the kit.

Us

Right on Snook. Now you have the best of both worlds. Thats a great boat with LOTS of room for the whole family. One of the best seacrafts ever made .

Thats the boat for you - keep that johnnyrude de-carbed and it will last forever - let me know if you need easy directions

might see you next weekend, we're due to go out there now the weather settled nicely

Snookerd 06-30-2012 05:02 PM

Dixon- Thanks. I am looking for a reason why I have no juice to the motor? It ran today

Snookerd 06-30-2012 10:48 PM

Duane-Thanks. I am finally getting to experience the ride of the Sceptre and really liking it! I am ready to roll for those gag!

Strick-Thanks for the comments. The 23 hull really is amazing. The boat is incredibly versatile. The family boating time just got kicked up a notch for sure.

Sandy-I have a no eye deer also! Thanks for the VRO info. We changed out pump and it is working now.

The shake down cruise didn't go real well..........motor dies at idle and when put in gear. Just about hit the dock 6 times. Gotta love the guys at the ramp, everyone is an expert! She did fly even on less than 6 cylinders with a Michigan 15x15. No trim tabs. Tabs are less needed with the nice balance provided by the weight of the cabin. I will be checking spark 1st and carbs last. Carbs are plastic! Front axle finally is breaking. It looked pretty bad but was working.

I've encountered that twice in the past. I found that water accumulated in the float chambers and got sucked into the carb choking it down when ever you put a load on the engine. It would idle all day, but put a load on it and it would choke. Drop the float cups and wipe them out. Should run great after that, if that is the problem.

My experience was with late '60's I/O's but the principle is the same. Good luck.

good idea - should drains on the bowls and flush with the bulb

fdheld34 07-02-2012 03:26 PM

Danny,

Looks great....you and your kids should enjoy!!!
Good talking with you last week!

Great job Danny!!!! The 18'er is nice, however you have upgraded into another world with the 23'er. The Sceptre is a great fishing boat, family boat, diving boat, etc. Just the right size, the odds are if it's too rough for the Sceptre it's too rough to take the family out period. Hope to see you soon!

gofastsandman 07-02-2012 08:13 PM

Danny, I know you are excited, but first things first.

Baseline the motor. No e 10. Everything on the fuel side is rubber or plastic.

Has anyone done a compression test ? That`s the first thing I like to do.

I think the family will love it.

After you get a compression baseline, you can then move forward.

Have I harped on this enough yet? Go buy some more food for the squids.

Cheers,
Us

Snookerd 07-02-2012 09:22 PM

Sandy-Preach it brother! Jonas laughed when read that he was a "squid" :). I will do a compression check and spark check asap. Do everyone with these loopers only use non-E10? Great info thanks.

Don-Yea buddy! I am really looking forward this size boat with my growing kiddos! I love the extra things I can do with it. I think the clincher is the idea of reducing the stress of getting nailed by a big storm crossing over to the Bahamas by hiding under the future enclosure. As I learned as a kid, all it takes is 1 bad time for mom/kids to kill the plans for next time.

Snookerd 07-02-2012 09:55 PM

Biglew and ESD-Thanks for that angle on the bowls having h20 in them. It was sitting for 2-3 months. Fred-Congrats on your sale in process. Sounds like you and I are going to head up the family in a Sceptre gathering events!

RobertElmore 07-02-2012 11:27 PM

Been racking my brain all day as to why you are not getting power. Send me a text and let me know !!!

RidgeRunner 07-03-2012 12:42 PM

Damn, that didn't take long. Flowers musta helped a little. I'll be dreaming of another 23' er I guess.

Rec 90 and Pennzoil semi. I prefer Startron as their enzymes eat water.

Drop the lower, if for no other reason than to grease the main shaft. Every year folks!

Touch up any dings on the tnt motah. Put some liquid electric tape on the leads going into the wires there.

Decarb.

Rinse and RePete,

Run it on the muffs every 2 wks. come hell or high water. They can be happy for many years.

Denny made a great point about using a toothpick. No hard or soft wire should be used.

Make sure the grain points at you and not away from you. No wood in the jet.

I said Wood.

Cheers,
US

eggsuckindog 07-03-2012 09:09 PM

Actually I would like to use mono fishing line if doing the low speed jets - toothpick may break and not get deep enough - don't know how deep they are

be sure and screw them in all the way and count the turns so you know where you were before
