Its not a Seacraft, but......

pictures of first prototype. Second one will be much nicer, bright finished, with eyelets for shock chords and handles. We will offer them for sale after we get the second prototype stitched/glassed.

have to be nimble, the small paddle boat/board kits and the repair market is the only thing that shows a lot of promise right now. Our large boat kits do not sell as well as they used to, it no surprise when you can pick up late model used boats and re-power them for less that the cost to build a new one.

Will cut the next/last proto type next week and I will work to have the kits ready in a couple weeks

Our SUP rentals, sales and classes are way up this year. Exponentially over the growth of the past few years. Good time to get into it.

CaptMick

I see HHI on your signature. I grew up there, HH high class 93. :) Parents still live on south forest beach. Where do you rent the SUP's?

that just refers to "stitch and glue", its a term used to describe how we get the shape of the boat/board.

In this case the stitches are the zip ties you see

I need to post my pics of a SUP I built out of an old canoe. Canoe made of royalex, cut it down and squared off the back (like your design), added stringers and a deck plus a homemade skeg. Tracks great and is super light. I actually like it better than the three professional built boards we have.

It is more of a cruiser than a surf board.

red20 07-29-2012 07:34 AM

I'll get some posted.

shine 08-02-2012 11:33 AM

deck is glued down and the topside seams are rounded and glasses (will upload those pictures later)

I forgot to epoxy the backing pates under the deck, so the eyelets will have to be mounted out to the edge where there are cleats to help hold screws. She is still very light :) Hope to water test it this weekend

shine 08-02-2012 11:34 AM

taped the top and bottom seams with 6 oz tape, covered deck with 4 oz cloth.

Sanded the tape edges so that it will be easier to fair. Glued some fins on. Next will fillet around the fins then give the entire outside a coat of epoxy.

How much will the SUP weigh?

Handful in NC 08-09-2012 10:01 AM

My wife thinks she wants a SUP, which means we'd get 2. I'd much rather build my own and have something unique- probably retain the natural wood finish. Assuming you are offering this in kit form, sign me up!

shine 08-09-2012 12:51 PM

this one is finished, final weight is 38 pounds. Decided to modify the construction just a bit to make it easier, so will build another prototype.

We hope to have the kits up for sale next week. Lead time for delivery will be about 2 weeks. I will post here when its ready, we will give CSC discount

:)

Nice!!

Any chance you will be offering just plans?

I teach boat building to high school kids and would love to build a few of these with the lowest possible cost alternative. Maybe AC plywood or Luan, etc. using your plans.

Have been looking at the Cheaspeak LC stuff but yours looks great too.

shine 08-14-2012 12:15 PM

no plans, just pre cut kits. The shapes are too precise to draw accurately, its pretty tricky with the thin wood (3mm sides and bottom). Started the fourth (and hopefully last :)) prototype yesterday. Will post pictures, but its look pretty good so far

shine 09-05-2012 03:58 PM

Its ready :) kits are up for sale....

http://www.bateau.com/proddetail.php...4#.UEeqXVKBWSo

we will be posting some pretty detailed study plans and excerpts of the building notes soon - free

A couple outside shots of the board. We have another one about 80% finished, and I think i will play with some pigments in its finish, but still eave it mostly natural/bright like this one...
