25' Topaz Questions---yes not a Seacraft but need advice!!!!!

WIFE OUT OF TOWN FOR 9 DAYS so.......I just purchased a 25' Topaz for a rock bottom deal, with a custom professionally done transom extension for twin outboards (boat now 27').
Just wondering if a single 250 hp would be ok for this boat...or would it be underpowered? I also posted question on THT as well.
Thanks so much for any help!

Cool looking boat. If it were me, I'd remove the windshield. That open deck is awesome too.

fdheld34 07-18-2012 11:45 AM

Might do that down the road..
The boat weight approx 5500 +-
and deadrise is 18 degrees.
Hoping to get away with a single 250 or even 225?

I love those boats especially the Bimini 24. Here is a picture of one near you--I am using the tower for inspiration for my Sceptre tower:

Nice Danny---post pics when you get it done!!!!
You think a 225 would be ok on this boat....last owner ran twin 150s on it.

Fred-
Absolutely the 225 would work! Deadrise is less than a 23SC and weight and length is more. My 225 just testing it was over 40 mph with 5 cyl firing! Being offshore and cruising will be very good. People with those hulls are thinking cruise speed and not top end anyways! Awesome boat.

Call the band, we're going to have a HO-Down in that cockpit. Awesome!

My brother had one of their 29's and loved it. It was a good riding boat, though I never ran in the nasties. Good Luck.

I loved this one.

Fred,
Will you still be married when she gets back? You've got it bad, man.

Maybe 250 but 300 better but 225 would be extremely weak IMHO - the boat was run with 300. You want a boat or a trawler

jorgeinmiami 07-18-2012 04:01 PM

I agree that a single engine might not be enough even with a 300hp
Get your self a pair of 200's and I think you will be happier.
And you would have a boat to drool over
Don't regret doing it and coming up short on the power

I hope your wife likes it so you don't have to sleep on the boat...LOL

But then here I am spending your money!!!

fdheld34 07-18-2012 04:35 PM

Thanks all for the input...I have to do stringer work etc to this boat...neat thing about the topaz is the whole sole lifts up in aft...
Boat going directly to storage...so wife will not know about it until I tell her (when she is in a good mood!!!)

More input appreciated about power!!!!

Thanks

Then what??????

Fred

You sick dude!!! Plenty of room within for dem Sears Catalogs you'll be reading on the night shift.

BTW: You need that lot with the dock permit for sure now ;)

gofastsandman 07-18-2012 07:23 PM

There is a 24 here. Stunning inboard with tower like Snooky posted.

Fred, are all munitions under lock and key? Does ACME deliver to PSL? Do you have full kevlar?

eggsuckindog 07-18-2012 07:57 PM

a single 300 may be fine, it would run better numbers than the twins at the same HP - not sure what that was though

Snookerd 07-18-2012 11:30 PM

Fred-if you have the cash, the ideal power is twin 200 hpdis

gw204 07-19-2012 08:29 AM

What about a single 350 Yamaha?

jorgeinmiami 07-31-2012 09:07 AM

So where are the updates on the new boat?
Or could it be that the wife disconnected the internet and your sleeping in the boat?

fdheld34 07-31-2012 01:30 PM

Jorge...wife is still in the dark..but I am dopping hints etc to test the waters!!!!
I purchased a 1996 225 Johnson 30" Shaft over the weekend to utilize on the bracket. I know its not 300 hp but figured a couple thousand on motor is good enough for now...see how it runs etc...
I have to rig the motor and then look at doing stringer tabbing repairs (might run it over to Don H. and have him do it...funds permitting of course!)
Will post pics etc. on here once I start!...no classic Topaz site!

That is a nice looking boat! Good luck with the wife!
I have a 97 ox66 250 Yamaha in 25 shaft for sale. It is still on the boat for another week or so then it will be at hermco's while installing my 30" ox66.
Still have the 18 or 20 Seacraft???
