Key Largo Lobster Sport Season
We watched a parade of boats & cars & trucks & more boats heading south yesterday through Key Largo... almost bumper to bumper.
Where's everyone coming from? Today we have had high winds (est 30-35 gusts) hard rains & there's small craft warnings. The "reports" say it will be better Wed & Thurs ... only 5 - 15! Any CSC members in the keys ... we're having our ususal BBQ this Friday. Just bring something for the grill & you're favorite beverage. We'll have the rest of the fixins, keeping it simple. (mm 94.5, oceanside, 3 houses N of Snappers Resturant) If you can make it, please post or send a PM, so I have an approxmiate count. Hope to see you then! Carla |
You guys missed a GREAT day! Winds calm, seas calm, water very clear....PERFECT!
Left the dock at 7:45 am and by 9am we had gotten our limit! Tomorrow is another day and we'll be going after them again. Anybody down here ... Post how your day went. See ya! |
Went out on a buddy's boat out of kawama left a little later but got 11 nice ones
Pics to follow |

http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/u...9/IMG_4294.jpg Ken, Sorry you couldn't make it down this year Skip and Carla, Sorry we couldn't stay over for the Friday gathering. We made our reservation for next year and pushed it out a day so we can join you if you do it again. It was good to see you guys and Denny and Sandy on Tuesday at Lorelei. It was also good to meet FlyingTime. Until next time... Dave |
Good looking Lobster tank! Filled nicely.

Your boat was the Belle Of The Ball! {these folks came from gainesville}. Insert Yankee embarassment ...here. I got some nice shots of your Seafari. How do I post pics from my new work mandated leash. iphone4.......help...help...help. Ken, you Patti, and Lil` Kenny were sorely missed. Skip and Carla were the hosts we know them to be. Just fantastic. Denny as always loves to teach. I love to learn. My last dive was my favorite allllll time. Just beautiful and so free. Thank you all. Still trying to get people excited about fishing over diving,.....but I could be wrong. Diving in my dreams now, GFS |
"iphone4.......help...help...help."
Hey Sandy, I'm thinking your phone would look real nice in one of those lobster holes deep in the rocks!! Let them call their lobster friends and warn 'em you are coming....tickle stick, and all! :) |
Warn them Skipper T is on the loose. He cleaned up by 8:45 day one. Cracker Air rules!
I have learned about a nice underwater case 4 the phone. The LED flashlight was a nice treat. The tanks and lines on/off the boat give the same freedom. Really sweet. Thanks Denny! GFS The A team had boat key floaties on their tickle sticks. We just happened upon one and picked up a dropped one. |
It sounds like you guys had a great time. GFS with an IPhone?! Times-they are a changin :)
I miss the old server / software also Sandy. I have no doubt that Skippertee is an intense lobster harvester. One of these days people.........I'll no longer be absent at the mini season roll call - bueller......bueller? The best "Crack"-R-Air in town until nobones arrives. |

Many scuba tanks on the boat ain`t half bad either. Cousteau was one of my fav`s as a squid. Tanks on the boat with just lines for the diving. So free. so nice. Light and free as Carl and Jeanne would like it. Cheers, Me and Denny! Toute sweet |
Every year my sister gets many tails from Juno south to the Breakers on dive boats. They're always there she says......may have to get my certification for personal confirmation. I keep telling her to get the 18SF out to keep that 140 Zuke purrin while my dad is recovering from Pnuemonia. It needs to be run, especially WOT :).

Stayed across the street at Plantation Key Colony. There appears to be a 23' Orange sided Seacraft For Sale w/twin Yamahas on a lift under cover directly across the basin behind Plantation Marina. House is for sale too.. Drool..
Bugs a plenty, just no Seacraft..YET.Attachment 2644 Attachment 2645 |
Ridgerunner,
Nice cooler full! Skippertee and I had a great time ... Weather perfect too. Sandy was the entertainment ... And Friday cooked a super dinner of lobsters, ahi tuna and grouper brought by KeysCruz. We used the Cracker Air, two dives first day and got our 12. Second day had to quit and head back home at noon with only 5. Denny and Sandy used their tanks and hoses. I think Sandy really dug that set up... Each year we are all getting better. Thanks NoBones for being such a great teacher! Monday ... Reg season opens we do it all again ... Yum! |
Sounds like a great time...for sure!!! The lobster had NO chance!
Hey Skipper and Carla, what do you know about that 28' SeaCraft for sale at the same boat yard where the "Sea Mistress" was a while back, I think it's a 28'er. Just caught a quick look see as I was coming down today. Looks pretty nice! Take care!! |

Here is a picture of my haul for Mini Season all caught near Rodriguez Key in 10-15 ft of water.
The little guy was getting his own and I saw him several times down 10-12 ft bagging his own lobster he ended up with 3 I can just imagine what he will do when he gets older |
That's a fine group of lobsters ... AND ... the little guy looks like he had a great time!
Don, I drove past today and very briefly saw the SeaCraft. People were on board and it was half hidden by the sign on the fence. Kind of looked nice, but I like mine just fine! Monday is going to be another fun day. Yum! |
Lots of great replies!
Come on Bahhnstable, don`t let us down! http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_4996.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_2626.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_3054.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_8320.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_7444.jpg http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_2140.jpg |
I knew you could do it, Sandy. Technology is NOT beyond your reach!
I'm going to have to get Denny's recipe for that Scuba tank powered Hookah. Looks like the cat's pajamas. Dave |
I also saw that setup and I would like to low down on the setup too!!!

Got the idea from talking to local dive shop guy who overhauls regulators. I already had a regulator, a couple of scuba tanks and a big tube for towing kids behind the boat (See last pic below). It eliminates all scuba gear but the weight belt, although I do use a snorkle vest for safety. You don't need 100'+ hoses like Ken/Skip have for the in-boat gas-powered rig so it's a little less clutter in the boat, except for the tube, which we just tossed overboard with line attached when we stopped. (Forgot to unhook line from boat first time I tried to use it . . . we're a little low on the learning curve for this rig!) 50' of hose is plenty for most of the spots we dive in the Keys. You also don't have to be as accurate in anchoring the boat close to the spot to be in range of the hoses, since you're towing the air supply in the tube, although we got lucky on our first spot and anchored with the big coral head right behind the boat. Used the tanks right from the boat and got 4 bugs out of it using less than 1 tank of air! Denny |

Very simple. Multiple tanks. 1st stage and second stage. Hose and regulator. I found a good source for used tanks in Hollywood if any have interest. 75-100 clams per with vis, hydro, new foot, and fill. I just got a new led flashlight as mine was not waterproof. Not cheap, but just plain blinding and made in USA! You will not believe how flipping bright this suckah is. 135 lumens and 32 hr burn time! Good to 500, yes 500 ft. Very focused beam. Dave, I didn`t even ask for help on the pics. Just kept plugging away. Did I mention they came from Newberrry. Not Ma., but Fl. Cheers, Dr. K http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/IMG_2140.jpg Link for clam spending. http://totaltankservice.org/services.html |
