Wood stripper. What will do a good job taking old varnish off of my wood?

When I have done furniture refinishing I have used Formby's. Seems to get the job done. Not the most fun thing I ever did, but it worked well and did not seem too harsh to the wood below.

If you are doing teak, I would take it easy towards the end rather that stripping the oils out of the teak any more than you have to.

Heat and sharp tools. Or 80 grit and a good hand. Play a Kazoo in the backround.

Sandy I must admit years ago me and some buddys were having a few brews at Woody's and there was this, uh shall we say dancer, who was so ugly I gave her $10 to put her clothes back on. It sure was funny then.......:)

So basically I have 3 choices.

1) Heat gun and peel it off.

2) Sand it off with 80 to 120 grit.

3) Chemical stripper.

D) hire an "undocumented worker" for $8hr to do it for me. :)

yup! Or con your son into doing it for nothing and then have to go back and correct his work. You'll still pay any way you go. BL's rule number 6; You have to pay to play!

There is a strip club near us where they go to die. The Kitten Club. We call it the Litter Box.
A young dumb son of a friend thought about becoming a male stripper. We brought him there for as long as he could stand it. We made him turn around and contribute to her dance.

Go look for Marine Stripper at the local Sherwin Williams...Blue label, gel & wear gloves and long sleeves and blow the vapor away from you. Works like a champ. About $25 gallon...Probably $70 at Jamestown Distributers

FranMar had a product called Soy Stripper that had great reviews in Practical Sailor.

So I spent a little time with my Ryobi DA sander with 120 grit. It came out well but I would probably go with 80 or 100 grit next time. I used a dremel with a little sander wheel on the inside of the rod rack.

I was so sweaty I didn't wear my eye protection as it kept fogging up. Big mistake. I got some sanding derbis in my eye. It took me all night to get the piece out. Darn my eye was crusty and nasty the next morning. (no pic of that)

I like the idea of hiring a stripper to give me a lap dance while I drink a beer before making such important decisions.
