GFS goes to scuba school.
Hey all,
Scuba Club feels right for my ticket. Works with my schedule. Been reading up on at most spheres and long division. Cheers, GFS |

Yo Sandy "Finster" tried that route but settled for land olympics instead :p http://1funny.com/wp-content/uploads...2/pigrider.gif |
Look out world - diving will never be the same once Sandy gets into it!
During our second day of lobster mini-season, it's sort of like I wasn't meant to dive . . . first we lost our dive flag, because the pvc flag pole I had slipped over the VHF antenna slipped off while were running with antenna down because I stupidly had not secured it well enough, then the strap broke on one of my big scuba fins, and then Sandy's regulator started free flowing! SkipnCarla decided to head in early and gave us their dive flag, and I gave Sandy my regulator and hooked both hoses together so he had 100' of hose to check out our last good spot. One of the 2 tanks we had left was due for a vis inspection, so I hooked him up on that tank and told him to suck it dry because any air left in it will get dumped anyway so they can pull the valve for inspection. Well he ran out of NICOTENE before he ran out of AIR! Had to come up for a smoke break before he could finish the tank! (At least he did get one more bug!) We discussed the new trend in diving, where they add extra oxygen to the tank (NITROX), which extends your bottom time. Sandy is wondering if it's possible to add nicotine to his air supply!! (NICTROX?!!) Said he would explore this possibility with the dive school, which I expect will freak them out, as most divers don't smoke! As an alternative, does anybody know if a nicotine patch will work underwater??! I'm sure that will be a new and innovative application! Denny |

Get your NicaTrox here, I hope they don`t banish me. The patch should work. They have been very candid and nice. I like nice. Cheers, GFS |

Missed you and `Lil. Come on Red Raiders, I can`t wait for the offshore dives. I`ll stop learning when I die. Shark kicked my ass. Last shakes. Laugh at you. Me too, GFS |
"nico - peace" - Nicotene injected regulator mouthpiece. I am just as bad, smoked two writing this up.
|
I tried.......:rolleyes::(
Showed you the advantage of "Cracker Air"... and what do you do?? Still trying to re-event the wheel..:D No muss no fuss...:p Just pull and GO!! The hint should have been obvious when Skip & Carla smoked you on the count!!! :) Sandy, two taps on the head!! |

I think the tank idea has lots of merit. outside the lines, gfs |
Just home from school. Wayne, our Professor of Puffing was great. Just like us. Salty and in love with all that comes with the passion. He has a camera that cost more than Snook`s new tow rig.
He said the new freediving record was 500 + ft. I said nothing. Brian showed me "Blue Water Hunters" around `94. An old vhs tape with locals like Jimmy Miller and his merry band of psychos who freedive way too deep. If anyone has a copy of that sign me up. Passed all the swim tests at the end of our lesson. Three hours and only two smokes. I normally don`t sit thru a movie. Cheers, Sandman |
In the pool tonight. First time with a BC and octopus. Learned manual inflation and rip cord deflation. Mask clearing. Regulator clearing. The BC and octo were new to me. This is lots of fun.
As Denny said, a lot of this is not new to me, but the sage advice and real world experience is essential for anything deeper than one at most sphere or 33 ft. The Keys are one thing. Over 30 is another ballgame! Bugzzz beware, GFS You can blow your lungs/brain up in 30 ft or less. You can also freedive down to 200 and come right back up. We dove as deep as we could as squids.Equalizzze your squids. They will thank you later. |

Yeah Dave, reminds me of the advertisement on TV for the new movie/comedy out about two guys running for office where the doofy guy shoots his opponent in the leg with a cross bow. That's our man Sandy with a spear gun....serious danger! :)

I do not understand their under. Family guns are just understoood, Cheers, GFS |
Sandy,
LC sbs is finery. But I couldn't be happier with my old Winchester 101s. Over and under...;) If you get the scuba bug bad, go see my friend Mitch in Grand Turk (BlueWater Divers) and dive the wall with him. Zen master diver/guitarist. Fantastic crew. Super cool and will let you practice your aim on all the lion fish you see. Apparently they have become an environmental nightmare down there:(. Congrats on the Aqualung ticket... oh locomotive breath... |
Choo Choo.
Thanks Gillie. I already got an invite to Grand Cayman. Unca Doug has a place there. Saw a bunch of lions in the keys. Recent testing has shown ciguatera. Great huh? We get 4 two tank dives with the course. No guns allowed. Can`t wait to get my bug address book filled. Cheers, GFS |
Start with zip 33036!
|
I bet Gillie can google earth that for you.
|
I bet you're right Sandy, that rascal can Google any darn place and find SeaCrafts. But if he does and sees my ol SeaCraft sitting in that zip code....it's NOT for sale!! :) :)

What happened in Barnstable? We need to take a road trip.
Jersey is going to out do you guys? Ouch, GFS |
Bushwacker was telling me how little his friend Bob used diving and I think I may have learned why. If you take 4 seconds to breathe in , you would take 16 seconds to breathe out. Or 4-1.
This also allows you to discharge more CO2. Rule #1 is never stop breathing. |
Well Bushwacker was right again. Just enough to be dangerous.
My thinking about diving in the Keys was how much trouble can we get in under 30 ft? Turns out quite a bit. Bubbles expand far more under less pressure. If you were to hold your breath and ascend from 30 ft you could easily get an embolism. Not good. Lesson: Never stop breathing. If things go south, exhale on the way up. From any depth. Cheers, GFS I know I am repeating some points, but that is fine. |

Forget the underwater chit. Get one of these suits and you can just float along & hide in the Sargassum Weed (No, not the Smoking type) and stuff the pockets with pilchard heads and you can score a Blackfin or Mahi for dinner http://forums.floridasportsman.com/i...lies/troll.gif BTW: I'll touch base with you tommorrow about the axels. http://i1011.photobucket.com/albums/...t/IMG_1798.jpg |
They wont let me chase bugs or shoot things until I`m off on my own.
Where do you shoot square grouper? |
Don't shoot a square grouper netting does less damage to the "meat"
|
"Where do you shoot square grouper?".......McDonalds, or maybe Mrs. Pauls place.

First offshore dive tomorrow. Maybe. Vis after Isaac still??? Wont know `til after the morning trip goes out. So. Fl. water district dropped the ball in many neighborhoods. Budget cuts don`t you know. Have fun B.W. Wish I could be there. GFS |
Isaac won. No dive.
I was hoping for that. The vis will be that much better. Friends said Noooooo. Spilways rippin` GFS |
Two tanks at 50 today. 100 ft. of vis. Love this. I lagged behind searching every shelf and head. Nothin`! Barren of bugzzz. We dove the second and third windows of the Breakers.
I was amazed at the acreage of our dive. Not like the keys at all. We had no current, which is rare here. The reefs here are world class. Shhh. We get one more two tank dive as a gift. Where do you do business? Thanks Noreen! GFS |
