Lil' Kenny has been working on the 1983 Sceptre that Skip and
Carla found 3 years ago in Palm Beach on CL.
He was in the process of closing in the transom and trying to get ready
for the water in his busy schedule..
Well lo and behold Friday afternoon he calls me and said,
road trip dad!! Saturday morning here sits a ready to go 1987!
Real clean, just needs a little TLC and the 250 EFI Merc sitting in the
barn strapped on..

Nothing could make me happier that the SeaCraft tradition and
addiction is being passed on.... :cool:

So beware fellow comrades!!
This can strike you too when you least expect it...

Don, the old Dodge Dart has been quietly sitting in my parents
garage for the last 14 years. While up there visiting I asked my dad
"Whata ya gonna do with the Dart" He said take-it!! :eek:
Needless to say it came back to area 442. Have had a blast with
the slant 6..:cool: The A/C is so cold (after a recharge) you could hang
meat in there..

Gillie & Sandy, That is a Pioneer.. POS!! Kenny brought that one in for detail
job last week.. It truly is a piece of junk.. Right above the bow eye
they drilled a 3/8 hole to drain the front locker.. That was from the factory.

There is no doubt the Chrysler twin piston compressors of days gone by were the best A/C units ever! Thankfully they had a thermostat 'cause it would run you out of the car if it didn't!! My parents had a '66 Dodge Polara with the 383, was a bad ass car....went through three teenagers including me!! Thank Goodness the back seat can not talk!! :)

Congrats to Lil' Kenny on the find, good looking boat.

If that is the original transom, it looks to me that the boat came from the factory to be rigged with twins, or a 30" single. Boats set up for a 25" single have an knotch in the center.

BTW, we had a 1970 Dart when I was a kid.

Did you tow that nice 23' Sceptre home with that Dodge Dart? LOL!! Must have a HEMI!!!

Bones, with that big black porn star of a motah pushing that transom to the point of no return, I think Kenny will be a very happy young man. Great buy.

Those stripes are pretty tacky! The way Tracker built most of them was fortunately much better than those stripes indicated.

Ken-Congrats to Kenny! Great looking boat. Once again, your theory of how to raise kids right proves itself.....87 should be a tank with hardly any spider cracks in the gelcoat. The finished Sceptre will be a great useable project for him!

Don, you're right, those old V-2 compressors would shake and rattle but they were bulletproof and would run forever. Bet you didn't know they used that SAME compressor in the home A/C units! I've been thru the Chrysler Airtemp plant in Dayton and was amazed to see them putting that same compressor, driven by an electric motor, inside a hermetically sealed can and installed in the 2-3 ton package units just like the one originally in my house! Most folks don't realize how much capacity is in a car ac unit, but a full size car is typically at least 3 tons or more! (Big heat load + no insulation = big cooling requirement!)

Ken, that's because that small 518 Torqueflite tranny has a real low first gear, lower than the one in the bigger 727 Torqueflite used with the big V-8's! The drag racers actually prefer a beefed up 518 because of it's low first gear! My Dakota has the same basic tranny and I have to be real careful with the throttle pulling the boat up a steep ramp to avoid wheel spin!

If my experience and your history with that Ram pickup are any indication, I'd say that old Dart ought to last you at least another 20 years!

Had to bone up on the Geometry today...;)
Got the Stainless Marine Bracket on today and hung the motah.....
3.5 inches from bottom of hull to anti-cavitation plate.
Should be ready for seatrail by next weekend. :rolleyes:

If only I were 30 years old again. :cool:
