Spring 2013 Gathering Long Point

Just a few questions to our active FLA members.... I would like your input on our next gathering:

When, Where, and Who??? Please give your input. I would like to see 21's, 19's, 25', 18's, 20's,23's, and 27's. November, January, or Spring 2013?

gofastsandman 09-17-2012 09:01 PM

West coast! Buffin` party?... I can imagine our crew paying the troll under the bridge. Credit Ron White.

Wouldn`t you rather live where we have 84 degree water now?

Folks North are at 62 deg. Brrr.

If you concentrate a big honkin` led light on a lobstah, they are putty in your net.

Try this. They can not see squat. They are blinded by the light.

My log book is lacking, but my thirst is not yet quenched.

Snookerd 09-17-2012 09:10 PM

Breakers Reef? Peanut Island in the Spring? Other ideas?

Blue197320 09-18-2012 05:05 PM

i would be in when the weather is cooler for some boat/beach campin!

Snookerd 09-18-2012 05:36 PM

Yea, That sounds good. peanut island is a circus, but the location is excellent.

NoBones 09-18-2012 07:33 PM

Long Point Park at Sebastian Inlet by far is the best central East Coast place
to have a gathering!!
Volusia County (Daytona Area) has squat!
With that, it does not matter to me or the boss!
There is the motels on the mainland side of Sebastian.
That's where Steve (lost2a6) stayed...
So we have primative and civilized accomodations for everyone!

Lets Do-It....

Peanut Island, been there done that was good enough for me...

gofastsandman 09-18-2012 08:11 PM

Not sure what has changed with the booze ban. I`ll ask the rangers.

We had a 2 tank dive off the Breakers Sunday. The site is 7 windows. We dove 2 and 3.
60 ft. World class diving folks. Not quite sure why this gets no press. Master Wayne said he has been to Cayman, Turks, and Fiji. He and his wife think our reefs blow all of those away. My fiji water is bottled.

Did get an invite to work a hoo tourney in Cayman, but the Christmas winds had their way. Got a Bone to turn on a fly. I`m not a fly guy, but it was fun trying.

Cheers,
NSF

I looked up our legendary 1st Long Point Trip. We booked for April in November. So I bet we could get March if we got started in Oct! Peanut Island is too crazy, but Munion would be cool to not be backed up till March. We have a few islands next to Ft. Desoto that would be no reservations. We could use their facilities, but camp next door! Any other East coast spot without reservations??

gofastsandman 09-18-2012 09:43 PM

Here we are fighting about where we will have the next gathering.

Do they have phones up North?

The new Munion facility is sweet. Just our style. Seconds to fishing too...or a dock.

Snookerd 09-18-2012 10:13 PM

Sandy I found a fact sheet on Munyon stating there is no camping!

That place is all mangroves (= bug city!) You wouldn't WANT to camp there even if they'd LET you! The sand bar inside St. Lucie inlet would be better, but I think it's just as much a zoo as Peanut Island on weekends, but with no facilities! However, my self-contained Seafari will work fine anywhere the water is deep enough to anchor! Long Point gets my vote! Denny

dave3fl 09-18-2012 11:45 PM

count me in! Lots of places here on the west coast but I would love to go east coast too

Islandtrader 09-19-2012 09:32 AM

Long Point in the spring...I should be ready to go by then.

The temps are with you now. Great choice.

We need to reserve sites again.

I have a floating prop wrench, and am looking for a wetsuit.

Shopping for Kazoos...
GFS

Lots of great performance coming to fruition here lately.

Also a couple of roller trailers as well...

Insert GFS scarecrow here.

Sandy, what's your height and weight? I have a wetsuit in good shape that's too small for me and might fit you. No kazoo's though...
Dave

Snookerd 09-19-2012 08:59 PM

I just dropped 600 today on the trailer. 400 more to go on tires, carbs, and head gaskets. I will be trailering all over the place once the motor is done. I may just leave it attached to the Armada indefinitely! I think mini gatherings will be a regular occurrence for me. I am planning on bringing It over to Jupiter for Thanksgiving.

It seems the Lobstah with the furry hat has awakened and found a map in his carpace.

Some pings, but lips are tightening. I don`t have any local contacts here outside the club.
Yet.

Most at the club seem to love the beauty and not chasin` bugz.....to each his own. I like both quite a bit. Water temp still 84. Brr.

A friend of a friend in Boynton has bugs all in the rocks. It will be interesting to dive tomorrow. I`m calling AAA.

Long Point in the spring. When do tickets go on sale?

Snookerd 09-21-2012 08:58 PM

I Have a friend in Key Colony this weekend gettin some bugs. I hope the weather holds!

doodlebug 09-23-2012 03:04 AM

Any date for Long Point? Ready to make some reservations.

Blue197320 09-23-2012 08:23 PM

Vis was not great. Kudo`s to the club for being nice and honest. No dive. Thanks Wayne!

Gathering. Slowly,
GFS

J241600 09-26-2012 03:01 PM

Boca Chica down in southern Biscayne Bay

NoBones 09-26-2012 09:00 PM

The I-4 corridor other then the Keyz.....Is what works for the
Florida crew! Anclote was good with the Holiday Inn and
BBH57 with the great ramp access! Fort Desoto was excellent on the west coast.
Long Point Park on the east coast..

Keep in mind with Florida it is close to 1000 miles from one end to the
other... Even Steve lost2a6 came all the way from Mississippi to join
the in crowd.... We just need to set it and forget it!
East or West either way Patti and I are good.

LETS DO IT!!

Always a good time rain or shine!

DonV 09-26-2012 09:30 PM

Hey Ken, I beg to differ!! Patti is good for sure, however let me think about the other guy! :) :)

eggsuckindog 10-05-2012 12:13 AM

I did forget to mention the Anclote ramp is now open 24 hrs and there are much better spots to camp on the southern end of the island now. I'm pretty sure Ranger Chris is gone due to budget cuts and the south end has a great bar that formed that wasn't there before, makes the run to the ramp and bathrooms much closer. I also discoverd another island that would be very good south of there but its only a fall/winter but very very close to shore and bathrooms as its in the ICW (5mins), that is south off of Dunedin. We camped there with the dog 2 winters ago a couple times in January as it provides good coverage for wind and such. Used to be a little motel on the water in Dunedin too but we'd have to check on that, just lots of changes up there as the North end isn't even suitable any more - all the sand moved south LOL

Don, Patty still needs a capt, no doubt in my mind he carries his weight

DonV 10-05-2012 08:00 AM

Yeah ESD you're right! We love 'ol NoBones, however it's difficult to pass up an easy opportunity to give him a hard time!!! :)

cdavisdb 10-05-2012 08:33 PM

Is there decent security at the Anclote ramp at night?

eggsuckindog 10-05-2012 11:09 PM

yes sheriff lives on site and we have another ramp I usually use in Palm Harbor thats has no issues

Snookerd 10-06-2012 06:34 PM

I left a message at the Long Point camp ground in Sebastian for the end of April.

I also made a call to the Jupiter Waterfront Inn where I stay sometimes in Jupiter. The Jupiter call was not for the gathering. I read on THT that boats are no longer able to tie up to their boardwalk or anchor in front of the hotel because of seagrass! I hear there are people taking pictures and a $1000 fine if you disturb the grass. I'm sure glad I am not over there because it would not be a fun situation with a LEO threatening me with a 1K fine because of sea grass.

eggsuckindog 10-07-2012 07:36 PM

Damn that Danny is getting crabby in his older age - welcome to the party

....Ask Sponge Bob about that one! Cartoon underwter in a place called Bikini Bottom. Sandy-The mangrove lawsuit in Jupiter is at my parents old house!
Ken- Tell some lies about the Cobes and clear water over there!

Snookerd 10-07-2012 09:37 PM

Dixon-yea, I may become a charter member of that crabby club! Too many idiots and too little time.

Snookerd 10-07-2012 09:41 PM

Anyone ever attend the Columbus Day Regatta at Elliot Key? I was just thinking of a St. Patrick's Day Regatta over here at Egmont Key with all of Tampa Bay down to Sarasota anchoring out for the weekend of races and parties. I'm thinking about the size of their event!

shine 10-08-2012 03:43 PM

April = wind, it can blow pretty hard for weeks. I think this past April there was only one weekend I could get out, and that was out of Ft. Pierce which is a heck of a lot easier.

I will be there whatever week you have it, Im just 15 miles sound.

If you can get out, the fishing is good (dolphin/cobia), and its better in May when the bait really shows up.
