My new 20' Sceptre---minor rennovations etc

After selling my 23 Mako, I decided to go back to another Seacraft. I picked up a 1978 20' Sceptre with a Yamaha 115 hp. I plan on redoing the transom to 25" but for now I plan on just getting it water ready. I was able to get it running but will have to work on the trim and tilt. I might just hang on to this one.
First thing I did was update the seating with some new pedistals and Pompanette chairs I had in the garage. Next step I am going to repaint the motor cover/ decals etc..

Welcome back from the dark side, Fred.
Unfortunately Strick already went dark blue on his lil Sceptre so you'll have to diversify ;)

I've gotta say, NoBones might hold the record for # of boats at one time, but Fred may hold the record for # of boats he's bought/sold over the past few years. I've honestly lost track of what you've had. :D

strick 12-08-2012 09:49 AM

The 20 sceptres are cute little bastards..... arn't they? I'm with Scott I have lost track of all your boat doings. Never remember anything about a Mako. There was a 25 foot something that you bought a while back? Anyway you are a true seacrafter and we wont hold it against you that you like to try some different boat booty once in a while. ;)

Hey Strick, I'm happy you specified "boat booty"!!! Without that magic word "boat", it had trouble written all over it! :) :) Good one.

I`ll take Hamilton for 90 days.

Fred has it bad. Pics of the 24 Topaz? Let me think. 2 Shammy, 2 Seafari ,1 Sceptre,
1 or 2 18`s?.....and a Mako 23? Was there a Formula in there somewhere? It would seem Fred has taken a page from Bigshrimpin. Glass, paint, Mercs, and wood. Fred, let me know about the riggers. How did that Topaz ride?

Cheers ,
GFS

Don I try and be careful how I word things :) Fred was there not a 23 sceptre in the count as well? What seacraft search engine do you use? or are you using google earth like Gillie? :)

NoBones 12-09-2012 01:33 AM

Strick,

Freddie is a county property appraiser......
He is lurking in places that we are not privie too......:(

How do you think I got that 20 SF left for dead a couple of
years ago!!

Fred, you know we are just breakin' your chops!!!!

Keep on searchin' ... that Scampi is out there!

gofastsandman 12-09-2012 11:18 AM

I`ll take Ben on that. Now, I`m not saying he wont buy another boat in this time frame, just that he will still have the 20 sceptre.

fdheld34 12-09-2012 12:18 PM

Hey guys...I just have the sickness like everyone else  !!
No search engine used just networking with other counties in FL.
I also have a small case of Adult ADD my wife says..I dont want to compose a list of boats I have owned....it is quite embarrasing :(. But my wife says this boat is the cutest!
Hope to have in water soon...trim and tilt now working it was low on fluid and leak was found...thanks for the fun posts..!

Well Fred, from what I hear on TV you can't get help until you admit you have a problem!! You're on your way to being cured.....well maybe not!!! :) I've got the same thing with fishing tackle, I could never use every rod/reel I own in a day and if I tried until I'm 100 I could never use all the lures I have. However, I'm not looking to be cured. Good luck!

This week I was able to acquire a fresh water use engine off of a bass boat. A 1990 140 Looper. The yammi had corrosion issues and trim and tilt issues! I redid decals on cover.

I also got the motor all rigged up with new cables, and redid instruments. I redid console with starboard and repainted the glove box door to match. I also installed new steering (teleflex for now).

I also threw on a bimini...will go hardtop down the road

strick 01-05-2013 02:19 AM

Nice work Fred. Your boat looks to be set up just like mine was from the factory. Teak trim around the forward cubby's instead of doors. I also have (had) the rotton red carpet in the big side compartments. Some of the sceptres came with a fold up window option but neither yours or mine had that. I took out the binnacle control and am putting in a side mount control like yours. I've decided to go with folding back to back lounge seats instead of helm seats like you have done. Dont know if I will like them for fishing but it will be good for when I take the kids out on the boat.

How long do you think you can get away with leaving the Christmas lights up? :)
