Gap between deck and transom?

I pulled a piece of a telephone pole gray teak trim out of my boat (86 23ft CC) last week. The piece went the width of the boat under the motor well gate. I was somewhat surprised to see a gap between the floor and the inside of the transom.

Is this standard? Or do I have a special boat...

I'll get a pic this weekend.

Thanks!

I have never seen anything like this before in all my SeaCraft years! What the hell is this piece supposed to do/provide? Is this a Tracker Trick

Boatboy6 05-17-2013 01:22 PM

It just hides the gap between the liner and the cap I think. Would make a nice wire chase too..,

Abe's Rocket 05-17-2013 01:43 PM

Fiberglass and gelcoat would also hide it...

Boatboy6 05-17-2013 02:31 PM

Yes, but then it would be a 2 piece boat, not 3.
