NoBones- I tracked this boat down in maine from an old hulltruth and classic seacraft forum. The boat was never restored and sitting in their back yard so I organized for a boat transporter to bring her down on his next trip to the northeast. Luckily, this happened to be only 1 week after I had reached out to the owners and made the deal to buy the boat. .

After looking real close at the pics I thought that was Jake's boat!

After he passed the family was contacted, but wanted big $$$
Like, college tuition for his son...

Hopefully you got it for a fair price.
The one thing that threw me was the cut in the engine box
was back in place from Jake's pic..

Good luck and keep tons of pics coming!

The back seat was cut out but can definitely be reglassed and restored. The 2 original parts that are missing (1) the hatch over the motor (2) the fiberglass contour seats, but I am confident that Ole and I will figure something out. I plan to incorporate the plexi bubble into the new hatch like the original. I definitely got a fair price on the boat (the lowest 4 digit number) it's just the cost of transport, a new trailer, and professional restoration that costs a bunch more. I know it will all be worth it when it's completed hopefully around January.

NoBones 09-07-2013 04:20 PM

Mike this is great that you saved her from any further chain saw damage!
The lexan bubble can be made at a quality sign shop...
Same way they pan form signs..
You have to make a mold then go from there..

Got my curiosity up I was going for the 80 but looked at the transome it looks like it has 16 holes check the Sierra sight and they have the gaskets available . To styles 16 and 22 holes . 16-1967 thru 1977 the 22 was from 1978 thru 1986 ? So I guess when they dropped the cursive script comes up????

ayianilos 09-07-2013 05:26 PM

Must be a 1971

Just checked and there are 16 holes. Thank you very much for the information. If potter boats are 1968-1980 this boat must have been built in 1971 according to the production sheet on the CSC site.

ayianilos 09-27-2013 05:36 PM

Cursive or Print

I would like to get opinions on whether my boat should have a cursive or print Seacraft logo. I suspect the boat is a 1970 or 1971. My gut tells me the print logo would be original because my other boat, a restored 20 foot seacraft, is a 1970 and has the print logo. Any thoughts?

I don't think Potter was using the print decals on his early models. Bushwacker's Seafari had a plastic plate with the logo on it. The decal on your 20 may have been added by a previous owner. These are much classier, and they honor the original designer:

Was wondering if you had contacted Scamp 815 to see if his motor cover could be used to make a mold

Jan 2014 is a bit optimistic. The plexi bubble may take some time :). Very fortunately, I was able to borrow the hatch from the owner of the green arrow.

This is the emblem on the green arrow. I want to go for the same look - Don't know whether it will be metal or vinyl sticker. The original catalog pictures do not have the 15 beside the seacraft name. I like just the cursive seacraft without 15.

Bushwacker 09-30-2013 05:20 PM

Carla's SS emblem Blue Heron showed that you can order from http://www.moeslyseacraft.com/products.html was made using Moesly's original script emblem as the pattern. The only difference is that the word Miami was replaced with CLASSIC and it's made from electropolished 316 SS instead of cast Zamak!

mnwnvc 09-30-2013 05:22 PM

Why not scan this image and run it through photo shop and clean up the edges and have your local sign guy cut a custom vinyl transfer. Not orig but cheap. $50

lean up the edges

wattaway2 09-30-2013 05:49 PM

got to see the scamp the other day GOT to say its a VERY cool lil boat

Me thinking the zinc chromac didn't hold up well after 30+ years. :)

Logo

A friend of mine is vectorizing the logo as well as the VDH logo from the back of the seats. Will probably go with vinyl on both

Mike will that look like the original? I'll need a pair for mine, plus the 15' let me know how it works out, and at what price.

I agree but I was under the impression that they don't look original.
James

NoBones 10-02-2013 01:07 PM

Carla (65bowrider) did not have the "15" or the "27" numbers
made... The emblem she had made is the same font as the original.
Could not use the "Miami, FL." on the bottom for fear of
copyright infringement!

These are as good as it gets..:)

Carla found one of the original pot metal emblems that had never been used and had a digital file made from that emblem so new ones could be laser cut from a sheet of 316 stainless. Hard to get more original than that! As Ken said, only the name Miami was changed to avoid copyright issues.

A good shop could cast the numbers in brass using an old one as a pattern and you could have that chrome plated.

That sounds cheap! :0

Logo

James, When I say vectorize the image I mean it will be identical to the photo I took of your emblem. I will definitely get a price when I go to have mine produced. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, I'd just rather go with the original look from the original catalog pictures as opposed to a new logo that was created to commemorate these boats. The ss logo with classic below just doesn't do it for me.

I have the classic logo and did not want to drill any more holes in the boat. So I re did the look a little bit and had them cut in vinyl.

Islandtrader, thank you for that. Makes my friends job of vectorizing the image a whole lot easier. Also looks original - perfect.

The Lil "Scampi" has been on the back burner so to speak.
Mike managed to borrow a engine hatch from someone, we cleaned it up and made a mold from it, so now we are ready to make Mike's hatch.
PS: We have a mold for Scampi hatches if the droves of Scampi owners need one. :)

Update photos

6 Attachment(s)
It's been a while since I last checked in. Here are the updates. The motor hatch has been duplicated. The motor and outdrive have arrived and should be fitted to the boat by next week. The rear seat has been reglassed to the cap. The original seats are in the process of being duplicated. The edson almag and teak wheel has been varnished. Just a few weeks out from paint. I'm leaning towards the original color at this point (someone on this forum said the color is robins egg blue). Targeting a March completion. Also have to add that that the work being done on this boat by Parker Yacht is absolutely amazing - they are true professionals (you'll see when it's done).

Beaver 01-16-2014 10:56 AM

What a cool little boat! I love the photos...makes me feel like I'm 5 years old at Toys R Us.

DonV 01-16-2014 12:17 PM

Makes me feel like 63 at World Wide Sportsman or Home Depot! :) :)

wattaway2 01-18-2014 10:14 AM

I dropped by a while back and can tell you that this is one cool lil boat!!cant wait to see it completed .hey mow that you have a mold for the hatch what about the rest of the boat!!

ct9amr 01-20-2014 11:26 AM

That thing is super cool!
I would love to have one to cruise some of the inland waterways.

Keep the pictures coming.

Color Scheme

1 Attachment(s)
I've decided on the color scheme for the boat (awlgrip color chart). The interior, cap, and hull will be ice blue - The stripe will be vivid red - The bottom will be petrol blue. I had my artist friend overlay some colors on the original picture so this is what the final product should look like.

thehermit 01-20-2014 07:31 PM

So cool ;)

Motor

2 Attachment(s)
The motor has been mounted. Now will be pulled out to paint and install hardware. Getting close!

wattaway2 01-23-2014 09:56 PM

What is the hp Change from what it came with just wondering what you expect this lil thing will run!!!

ayianilos 01-24-2014 12:19 PM

HP

The motor is a 4 cylinder 3.0TKS (Carb) 135HP Mercruiser. This boat originally had a 155HP V6. I expect the boat to run 42-45 mph based on the old catalog test data with a 120HP Mercruiser.

Jeff79Sceptre 01-24-2014 05:02 PM

I would like to have one!! I may have to put a poling platform on it though.

Wouldn't this hull just make the perfect flats skiff!
