That's Paul Cuddy's Boat, he is a really nice guy. He had it for sale a few years back, but rather than give it away he kept it to take is Grandson Fishing. To him that's worth it, even I he uses it once a year. I believe he told me the story when he bought it. It was left over from the Boston Boat show in 1985 and he bought it in 1986. I remember the boat at the Boston show when I bought my first Seacraft, a 1985 23' I/O. I really wanted the 27, but could not afford it at the time and it only came with 2-stroke outboards. So you can imagine, that 27 Seacraft has been part of his life for almost 30 years, it would be difficult for him to part with I am sure. I think there is as much chance of him selling his 27, as there is for me selling mine

Lets hope it servers him and his family well for manny years to come

thought it was a luhrs open at first...love the top cap...neat boat!

What a dive boat that would make! I can just see it with a low profile wrap around windshield and a Tsunami style helm pod and hard top. It would probably be the only major refit project I would ever consider.....

This one was a little more in my price range:
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/boa/4030899818.html Taking on a $60k project right now could make married life a little difficult. When the nest clears out I will have the time and funding to start a new way to make money disappear. |
Is the one in the CL link a super fish model of a tournament model? Also have you looked at it and what is the condition of her. I have been thinking about getting one and fully restoring the race boat back original. If I do this I will need another boat for my offshore trips. I love Todds but it is like you said out of my budget.
|
It's not the tournament so I assume it is the SF. I haven't gone and looked at it yet as I am too scared I will buy it. The trailer alone looks worth the cash but from what I understand the floor has issues and considering the age of the hull you have to assume the worst and consider it a full restore for the most part.

If this thing sticks around a few months I may be in trouble !!!!! My nest is less than a year from chicks learning to fly on their own and this could fill a spot on the Size list !!!

May go ahead and contact him also...

If the seller holds true to his word this one is sold. It will be going back to NC, as soon as details can be worked out. I was going to use the 27' race boat for an offshore fishing vessel but really wanted to restore it original. I wanted something larger and this will be perfect. I looked at a tournament addition before and was waiting for a sf model to show up. If everything works out the race boat will be rebuilt to original speck and be more special that way. There are a ton of cc out there and not many late 60's vintage racers. Soon to start a thread on the rebuild.
Rusty if you are still looking something at the first of the year, I will let you get pick of the litter of ones I'm not rebuilding. |
I will be expecting a large Margarita at the next gathering for a finders fee! :D

Well, I'm so up set I can't stand it. The seller told me he would hold the boat till I could drive down to get it. He gave me a price and I told him that was no problem and consider it sold. I offered to give him a deposit just to show him that I was serious and thought that was good enough to lock it down till I could make the drive. He told me i had nothing to worry about that he could hold it no problem and that he would even stop taking calls on it. So I called him today to see if it would be fine for my uncle who is local about getting the trailer fixed and he tells me it is gone. I had already arranged everything with him, talked to him five times and he said it was mine and I had two weeks to get it and no worries that he would not take anymore calls on it. I was trying to trust a man I thought, that gave me his word, that he would hold it for me. Luckily I wasn't halfway there from NC when he told me this. You would think someone that sent a deposit on a boat 600mi away would be able to trust a seller to hold it knowing the amount of trouble that I was going threw to make this purchase. I had a member from up here (csc) look at it for me and check it out mainly to verify the condition. The seller just sold it today for $200 more than what we agreed, so he clams anyhow. I would of been glad to pay a little more cash not loose it. He also told me he would not even be home till Monday and that i could not even get it till after then. He clames that the guy who bought it out from under me ended up paying his friend for the boat due to him not being present and his friend signed the title for him forging his signature. I don't know what to believe but know the seller screwed me. I am canceling my deposit check and will watch out better next time. You can't trust some peoples word no more. And if you aint a man of your word them your just a little boy.

That sux, Friz. Would have been a screamin deal for one with the coin and gumption to rebuild her. Would have been righteous in your fleet.
Sorry to hear you got duped by a dirt ball. But keep the faith. I once trusted a guy to hold a boat for me 'til I could get 2600 miles to get it. He was true to his word. He even told local buyers it was spoken for, winterized it, and parked his tractor in front of it... Sure looks better in San Diego than in a field outside of Detroit: http://i1011.photobucket.com/albums/...lterIsland.jpg |
Mike-
I agree the guy has no class. I looked at it 2 days before we talked and when I texted him, he was already trolling for a better offer from you or another person. You are not the only one that got screwed, I bet. Probably at least one other guy trying to buy it. |
Crap, I hate to hear that. I was really hoping that you had that sewn up. I wish there would of been some way I could of locked it down for you from here. I could of bought it for you and put it in the yard til you got here. Though I doubt my wife would have believed me as I have used that story before to get a SeaCraft in my yard.
Wife: "What the hell is that?" Me: "What is what? Wife: "That big white heap of junk in the back yard." Me: "Oh thaaaat. It's not junk, its a rare classic Potter hull." Wife: "Why is it in our back yard! You better not have bought another boat!!" Me: " Not exactly..... I bought it for this guy who lives somewhere else and can't pick it up for a while. Wife: "Bullsh*t! Who did you buy it for? Me: "Some guy on the internet." Wife: "I hope his wife has room on her couch for both of you..." |
This was a deal no matter what for a 27
The thing had been advertised for sale for quite awhile. Really surprised it lasted this long! Word has it that 30 Ben's in hand was all it took!! More later... |
It was a deal.....even less than 3. I had a chance to check it out for about 30 min when the seller was not around. It was structurally sound.

Kmoose: I would of been glad to buy you two of them if I would of got it & I would of paid the $25 boat fee to the site as well. mcgillicuddy: love the boat you found, I am still wanting a moesly 21 more than anything. I would trade out my 23 for a upgrade to a moesly 21 anyday! I envy you guys that have one. I believe in the 3 boat rule. (20' creeks / inshore & 23' sound / near shore & 27' offshore) My other boats are just yard art! |

At the time frizz I had no idea you were working on getting this one..
Lil' Kenny told his buddy about it last weekend and the rest is history. He called the guy and made the deal! Sorry that it happened this way.. This thing needs very very little other than power to make it ready for use.. More later! |
Yeah, "more later..." was a dead giveaway:eek:

The more I see the Pics the more it hurts, the more I wish I had gotten it. This was a nice hull and trailer that would of been perfect for me as an offshore boat. And "more Latter..."? Your killing me man! Lol Hope little kennys friend enjoys it. If not maybe he will decide he dose not want it and will sell it! Lol I have been watching for one to pop up now for several months. The only other two I have saw were more work than I wanted or more money than I wanted to spend. This one would of been just right. The quest continues, I went and looked a old white water hull the other day as well but everything I find is junk that needs tons of work or is really nice and has a matching price. Really wanted to find a cc 27' seacraft but I might expand my search and start looking at other hulls as well (old seavees, white waters, and such). Dont want nothing newer or high priced so that really limits what I am finding. I would like to find something so that it would make me feel a little better about going back original with the race boat. If I cant find something soon I might just keep the race boat as a cc and set it up for offshore fishing. Not that I go offshore a ton but would like to be able to go when it is convenient for me and not having to bum rides from friends. |
