To this (I didn't authorize the framing for the Starboard panel I asked for, but I was able to live with it):

Sorry for the pic sizes and number of posts. I'm on my iPhone and I can't seem to resize them or even do a search on how to.

Yup. Total dooky. Thanks, Ken. I'm working on it. :D

Did they use the starboard as a wire chase?

McGillicuddy 09-12-2013 11:27 PM

Why is it some never have time to get it right the first time, but always make time to do it again:confused:

'Cause there a fricken' Ted William's type hoverin' over their head with a HARD ASH BASEBALL BAT...

Good luck Paul, your rig deserves better.

If I had to pay money to have that done they would have to take me to court to get paid, I cant see any shop doing any thing like that. I can understand if the owner was trying to do a temporay fix for some reason but that is not what I would want on my t-top,

Why was it put there to hide wiring? If so I am agast. Specially being a electrical control / instrumentation tech, making a bunch of wires look good is what I am payed to do.

This is the crap I am up aginst:

Had to rewire all of this crap in to 8 cabinets like this one:

I am with frizzle ... i screw myself on things buy being honsest and paying ahead then being disapointed but paying anyway when i pick up said item instead telling them now and not paying... had my leaning post built twice... first time i refused it... second time i was frustrated and just paid the guy and took it home... being promissed he would refund my money when he could... after several months I made cushions and installed a out of square messed up leaning post... if you havent paid him DON"T... until he makes you happy.. I like the top though !!! Can you throw up some pics with the top installed ??

pelican 09-13-2013 07:44 AM

well....

the coating on that top will fail - look at the where the fasteners pass through...

that's a mess all around

when the coating pops, you'll regret going that road...

was that job done by a shop,or a backyard guy acting as a shop ?

strick 09-13-2013 08:10 AM

I see what you were talking about. Total hack job. Not sure why the starboard even needs to be there......

wattaway2 09-13-2013 06:06 PM

No excuse but just wondering IF there was a box mounted up there and the starboard was not exposed?
Friz glad to see someone else runs into crab like that used to really piss me off but over the years I've accepted it knowing that sooner or later the hack jobs fail and then they can pay us to do it the way it should have been done to begin with! Spent 4 1/2 yrs working at the turkey point nuke for Bechtel startup for part of it hAdto come behind some great mechanics and had to open up there wire looms just to verify cables and terminations hate to say it but once they where unlaced we could never get them back quite as nice as one of the old timers had put them in ! Actually apologized to him once got a a warm smile and was told he didn't think he could have gotten it back the same way if he had to pull it apart like we did either ! Hated that job but loved the guys I worked with----talent!

Blue_Heron 09-13-2013 08:30 PM

I sometimes wonder if this kind of thing happens because people don't care about the quality of their work, or if it's because these guys honestly don't know what quality work is supposed to look like.

Either way, I hope you get what you want when it's all said and done. The guy ought to buy you a new T-top.

Man i hate it for you... That looks like my son who is 4 built that..the guy did not have a piece of scrap he could have used to redrill coreclty the placement of bolts..

martin 09-27-2013 02:55 PM

What are the wires feeding .. Radar , antennae , lights but i see looks like lights on stbd side.. I would have drilled in to your tubing and fed wires through the tubing.. Looks like you could have ran all wires through the tubes..just my two cents

Bigshrimpin 10-09-2013 02:08 PM

What was the guy thinking? You could cover it up with a nice lightweight electronics box.

fdheld34 10-11-2013 12:25 PM

Looks like 2 L brackets constructed of starboard that were built to accept a plate of some type for an electronics box..and the chase is there in the tubing to run wires to a future electronics box. You wont even see the messed up holes on L brackets once plate and box is installed(but YOU will know they are there:eek:)
