1977 MA 20 Rebuild
1 Attachment(s)
Good afternoon guys. I have been following this site ever since my dad and I got into rebuilding a 20 MA we found this fall on craigslist. Since the fall when we got her we gutted the inside and started fresh. To start we rebuilt the transom and raised the floor 4 inches and reworked the rear transom and replaced all the wiring, fuel tank and rigging! Pumps and etc. We have about 3 months of labor into it so far on and off and have been learning as we go with some things. Luckily we have had it in a heated shop for the winter so working on it has been easy. I wanted to share some photos of the rebuild with everyone here.
The next big step for us is setting the bracket and finding a suzuki 140 to paint white and throw on the back of her. I am really looking forward to seeing the final result as I am sure this boat is going to be a head turner. Tight lines Mike |

Raising the floor

Here we fiberglassed 2x4 to raise the floor up the desired 4". We ended up using a router to take the sharp edge off the 2x4 before we glassed it. For the transom we ended up with two layers of 3/4 okoume glassed together

Next we finished the rigging of the pumps and salt water wash down and got ready to re install the floor using Coosa board

Then came the floor and a lot of fairing compound !

We then went to work on the gunnels and reworking the transom. We really liked the radius look on the transom. On the gunnels we sanded everything down and used fairing compound to get rid of the rough carpet look and give the boats finished look.

So after two and a half months of non stop sanding and cleaning and fairing we finally got the boat sanded and ready for paint this past week. We decided to go with Imron over awlgrip given our past experiences and also given our experience spraying Imron vs never spraying awlgrip. We are beyond happy with how well it came out.

And the bracket. We plan on doing a white boot stripe and a real bottom paint. The inside of the boat will be Snow White and the non skid awlgrip aqua mist. Our next big step is spraying the gunnels and the cap which we will hopefully do this week along with the top of the bracket. Then the fun begins with putting everything back together. We also plan on spraying the suzuki 140 white as well.

More Progress

Good Afternoon Guys
We made some more progress yesterday painting the Cap, console and bracket. We are hoping to start the non skid within the next few days. |
Very nice, very!!! Imron is a really nice and $$$ product, however worth the money. Amazing paint can be so hard. Keep up the great work.
|
Very nice!! Did i spy a Wells Index vertical mill in the background? :)
|
Yes you did. It has been kicking around our shop for years. For sale if your interested. Anything will help replenish the boat fund !
|
Thanks Mike but I have a vertical mill. Keep up the good work on the boat!
|
Looking Real Good Mike!
Your on the way to the "Gucci Award" don't disappoint me.... I have one recommendation thou. You have mounted your pump correctly & used top notch bilge plumbing, but I think a S/S inline fuel shut off valve (coming from the fuel tank) next to your fuel / water separator for easy access would be a sound safety addition. ;) |

Well we ended Friday on a good note and got the bracket installed on the boat. We are really happy with the way it looks and I am getting anxious to find a motor and get that painted as well to see how it really looks.
Capt. Chuck thanks for the advice on the fuel shut off. We will have to order one and install it. Hopefully this week we will get the bottom barrier coated and painted and try to get her back on the trailer. Things are really coming togethe. |

Lastly we painted the boot stripe this week and installed the rub rail today. My dad came up with the sea craft logo in the boot stripe like the Jupiter's. We are hoping to close up the rest of the transom next week and install the painted bow rail. Now to just find ourselves a motor.

One more with the decal in the back with the rub rail and boot stripe. Hope you guys enjoy. It's awesome to see the boat coming together
|
Awesome job fellas. Those master anglers are a rarity and it's nice to see one getting all that attention. Love that boot stripe and logo.

Making more progress

Hey guys so we are still moving forward and getting closer to getting the boat ready. My dad did a lot of work this week on the console getting it ready to go and building the pod. We are hoping to get the floor painted this week and get the console in along with the leaning post. I will post more pics as things start to wrap up but here is the console. Still need to put an 8" GPS in along with the suzuki gauges but things are getting closer.
|
Where did you get that switch panel? I'm looking for one like that. The boat looks great.

Hey guys wanted to post some pictures of the progress of the boat. We got the floor painted and we are starting to set everythng in place and will begin the non skid shortly. Things are really coming together.
|
Beautiful job. Top shelf.
|
quick question - the tub area that the tank sits in - doesn't that drain or could it hold water forever and left the tanks sitting in water ???
|
wow !! hoping to get here one day ...
|
Just curious where you got your starboard console door, or is that custom? Very sweet looking rig, love the color!
|
Hey Guys
So the tank is mounted on the stringers underneath the deck. We removed the tub underneath the console for weight savings. Anything that comes in will flow directly into the bilge. In regards to the Console door my Dad had them custom made from an outfit in Florida. I will have to ask him where he got them. Thanks for the comments. The boat is coming along great and hopefully we will have the Suzuki 140 painted and on the back of the boat by the end of next week. Ill post some photos as we go. |

Well guys we are getting close to the end. This week my dad painted the motor cover and got the decals installed. We also painted the little cover in the back to match the color of the hull. Hopefully two weeks it will make its mayden voyage.
|
Nice job hopefully mine will be 1/2 as nice as yours
I would really be interested in the rear left door hatch if you have it laying around and don't want it Let me know what we can work out |
