Long Point/Sportsmans Lodge Gathering 05/08-10/2015

1 Attachment(s)
Just got off the phone from Sportsmans Lodge and booked a week that includes the Friday included weekend of the 8th through the 10th of May. It is the only open weekend with good availibility of rooms at the off season rates. There is limited boat slips but the public ramp is 50 yards from the hotel and parking is ample at the rooms. Regardless of whether or not anyone else want to attend Mel and I are still going to spend a week there so if we can get one other member on board we will have a gathering. Again, Grouper season will have just started and Dolphin will be in full swing.

If we book the majority of the rooms for the weekend we own the pavillion and included ammenities. If not we have to share.... either way the place is so big it wouldnt matter.

Below is the link to rate and reservation numbers. The hotel is family owned and the cancellation policy is simple... ex. three day stay= three day notice before. This lets you get your reservations in without worry if weather looks bad or something pops up. Lets get this thing going and locked down!

View from above.... I was docked there with 8 other boats with no issue. First booked, first slip...

FLexpat 11-13-2014 12:05 PM

Just reserved a studio for Fri & Sat nights (8th&9th) - No idea if I am going to be able to make it but I hate sleeping in a car. I have zero expectation that my 23 will be done then.
He did tell me that there is a rate increase coming in January so reserve now if you want to save.

DonV 11-13-2014 02:04 PM

Yep, just booked room #7. If we get enough folks we can have use of the pavilion. The rate increase will be about 3%.

The pavillion is sweet and can be fully enclosed if the gathering curse has not been vacated. I don't want to share it so lets get these rooms filled! We'll be cooking daily and there are great places to eat all up and down the strip as well. And at half the price of Cabbage Key you get a pool to cool off in at the end of the day! .....although there probably won't be a Charlie Crist sighting. :D

Ken,

Thanks for taking the initiative and legwork to get this started!

I just made reservations at the Sportsman's Lodge and got a Efficiency Room and a Boat slip for May 8th (Fri) and 9th. Hope to bring my boat this time!

Jim

DonV 11-13-2014 04:39 PM

Sweet Jim!!! If I know for sure you're coming I'll double up on the shine!!! :)

kmoose 11-15-2014 09:54 PM

Come on guys, rooms at this place will fill up quickly due to the start of grouper season. Easy access nice ramps and ample dockage... Don't make have to feed a bunch of strangers!

cdavisdb 11-15-2014 10:04 PM

I'm planning on being there. Don't need a room, we stay on the boat, but might need a slip and parking, will call'em.

The owner will say the slips are not big enough but I was parking on the cat walk by the shore with plenty of water. Not much tide fluctuation there either. If not the public marina is right next door.

RUSTYNTABATHA 11-15-2014 10:17 PM

Mel and I are swore off of Facebook. All it seemed to do was attract psycho ex girlfriends and a place for our grown kids to call us names when we didn't give them money for stupid things. :D

RUSTYNTABATHA 11-15-2014 10:52 PM

LOL .. I hear ya....

Ken, What if you are one of those Seal Team 6, Tag Team Wrassil'in, Special OP's, Grizzely Adams, Yo-Ho Yo-Ho a Priarte's Life for me type of CSC Sport Models and you don't cott'in to no dang screened in pavilions, wood docks, swimm'in pools and A/C blow'in on ya' and ya' want to stay over at Long point 'cause you like 1000 yard hikes to the bathroom at 2:30 AM and being Water Boarded for three days. Can you still swim over from LP and have some of dat Blackened Grouper like you fixed at Cabbage Key? Dat was sure some good eat'in. Spider Crab wood'a sure like them vittles but he was hung up celebrat'in some big sale at the lemonade stand - somebody wanted a six-pack.

I just wanted to post this question in case someone was a-feared to axe. However I must confess, Bruno has a deposit for me and the better 1/3. I'll plan on easing out off of Anna Maria in late April and gigging a bunch of hogfish for a Friday night Ceviche' appetizer. Snookerd might be "fish'in on life support" by then and he could help me. Looks like we'er navigat'in towards another CSC Epic Adventure.

Hi Ken, I'm live up here in Moose Ridge just south of the 54-40 line. I was thinking about hitching the Hudson up to the Mosley and heading south in May to the Sportsmans Lodge but I wanted to verify a couple of things first, because I'm skeptical by nature. First of all are there people going to be there from New Jersey? Second, do I have to know how to Salsa? - we only square dance here and third, what the heck is Ceviche'. I heard that you have to live in a gated community in Florida or the Porta Rican's steal everything. Do you know anything about Porta Ricans? How much of Don V's elixir do I have to drink for Sandy to make sense? Is Ken from area 442 coming, or is he still basking in his marketing excellence. Will Snookerd be diving with you and Professor England by then gathering up some nice Pollack for dinner or sitting in the boat thinking he knows whats going on down there?
Thanks in advance for your perspective on these important topics.

Is Richard Brautian any relation to Laura Branigan who sung Gloria in the 80's which was not nearly as cool as "Them" featuring Van Morrison who sung G-L-O-R-I-A in the 60's? - "She's about 5'-4" from her head to the Ground".

Attempting to connect Sandy's dots in the Fourth Dimension. Another trip-wire to a Claymore!

Game on!

Last riverfront room booked! Packing my decoder ring for GFS, hopefully 4 family members, 1 23 Sceptre, ect.. Let's do this!

DonV 12-30-2014 08:37 PM

:) :) I'm in, however not sure if I have a riverfront suite. Us poor folks are used to being in the back side rooms.

Not too sure what happened, however I think the battery is dead in my WalMart purchased "GFS decoder ring". I've been relying on Terry to help me out.

You need to adjust for magnetic deviation and moon/ tide swings.

Concentrate on deviation.

Propeller or mini solar panel? Both have advantages.

Good deal! must of been a cancelation as I was told I got the last riverfront when I booked. No real bad rooms here, just some with a few more ammenities. It's going to be a great time. The pavillion is awesome and its a great time of year for mahi and grouper.

I was told we are the early birds and pretty much have the place wrapped up so far. I`m sleeping in the elevator shaft.

So was Columbus, that's why he discovered the short route to India and named everybody here "indians". Oh, wait!

Just remember, When the maximum band width of compass deviation, whether measured in Nano-farads or Light years, is exceeded and you peel back all the leaves of the artichoke - sometimes there is just a "Deviat".
Just say'in!

I got a hunch Sportsman's Lodge is going to be great. We just need to request that they build an elevator for Sandy. I Vacuum bagged some Hoggies I got on Saturday due west of Danny and Connor's docks for Ceviche' appetizers at Long Point. No sense in waiting 'till the last minute!

I wish that "old Guy" would stay out of my pictures!!!

Yes, Some are on Marsha's "Ticket"

The golden globe artichokes will be in season shortly. The size of grapefruit. When I went to LA, I saw them for the first time. The gal at the register looked at me like I was a deviant.
I had 12 artichokes and pound of butter. I was in the express lane indeed. Couldn`t cook em fast enough.

kmoose 01-05-2015 02:24 PM

Great job Terry! Glad to see Marsha is letting you take pictures with her stringer....

cdavisdb 01-05-2015 09:04 PM

"old guy"

know what you mean.

A few years back I was watching a video taken by a friend in Little Cayman. This old, mostly bald headed old coot swims into the picture. I was astonished, had not seen any other free divers out there and could not figure how I could have missed this guy. But Wait! The old coot has on a wetsuit just like mine and fins, just like mine, and a mask, just like mine. About that time, I figured out who the "old guy" was.
