MacRae's of Homosassa Springs on November (5)-6-7-8th, 2015

Yes James, so far "Crickets". I was curious as to weather I need to pack a tent or just a Visa Card! Is it Horseshoe Beach, Evergaldes City or somewhere in between? We just need to know which way to steer and which weekend we need to show up.
Time is slippen away.
I'll contact the Magnuson Inn and Marina in St. Pete, by the Skyway if you want. We just had the St. Pete Open there with 350+. But "I don't have a dog in this hunt", so whatever Capt. Robalo says. I'll stand by.

Islandtrader 08-22-2015 08:16 AM

I think we (me)have come to a conclusion that packing a Visa is the most fun now, if you want to include the other half.

So, St. Petersburg/Ft. Desoto/Skyway is our official destination? When? Nov 6-8?

Looks like rooms can be had for $97/night (no view) to $134/night (water front)*

* with AAA discount

DonV 08-23-2015 09:06 AM

Vezo, Part II 08-23-2015 11:33 AM

The Magnuson in St. Pete is owned by the same group where most people stayed at the Anclote Gathering, in New Port Richey. The place is a little "dated", but there is plenty of boat trailer parking on their lot just south of the hotel and a good boat ramp 5 minutes away at Maximo Park via an underpass on the west side of I-275. The hotel has a good protected harbor and it looks right out on some of the best Trout and Redfish flats in Tampa Bay. It is about a 15 minute run to the Gulf via Pass-a-grille Channel or Bunces Pass. It has a couple of pools and a pretty nice Tiki Bar looking over the bay.

For those in the band width that want to camp, the Pinellas County - Ft. Desoto campground is 10 minutes away by car and 12 minutes by boat. For those with Seafaris, who want to stay aboard, lots of good protected anchorages nearby with showers and bathrooms at Ft. Desoto.

I'll be glad to look into it a little further if I ain't steppin on nobodys toes. I'm just think'in if we don't do something soon, we wouldn't be able to find any place - we'll be fishin' in an abondoned phoshate pit and stayin at Bob's Country Bunker in Mulberry!

Islandtrader 08-24-2015 10:04 AM

I would be up for this...maybe we should try and get a count on how many would be interested?

DonV 08-24-2015 11:10 AM

I'm with Terry. Count us in....not so much for the old phosphate pit though! :)

Cedar Key Option

Kenny (Kmoose) is on vacation this week so I don't know if he has E-mail, but he suggested we consider Cedar Key or "the Hatch" (Steinhatchee) sometime. I'm good with either one, but I don't know enought about either to try to set something up there. We are liable to loose some Southwest members, but gain some northwest members (Fr. Frank, Tom Paris, Blue Heron, Rusty and Tabitha, etc.). It might be an adventure!
As previously mentioned, "I ain't got a dog in this hunt - I just need to know which way to steer!"

77SceptreOB 08-24-2015 01:05 PM

I can't make it Nov 6-8.

How about Novemeber 13-15??

gofastsandman 08-24-2015 07:39 PM

Just steer me in the general direction of a picnic table and I`m good.

Vezo, Part II 08-24-2015 10:32 PM

What picnic table? MacRae's of Homossassa? 12 or 14 rooms and it's ours. Many BW Rendevouxs there. BIG Tiki Hut. Public ramp and parking free with overnight slips. Did I just say that?

Yea Mike, The Freezer with the best steamed shrimp is around the bend in the river and Neon Leon's with great Cajun food is just up Fishbowl Drive across from the old Sugar Mill. That would be a good choice too. I could probably get Donny to go along with that spot.

Why do I always use resturants as my "way points"?

DonV 08-25-2015 07:55 AM

Oh yeah....I like Neon Leon's Zydeco Steakhouse, the gator tail and oyster po'boy sandwich is good eating.

Restaurants are good way points!! :)

Vezo, Part II 08-25-2015 09:48 AM

Clam season opens Sept. 15th!!!

TomParis 08-25-2015 01:31 PM

Steinhatchee has been very good this year for scalloping, I have been told they got their limits every time they went out in the first hour. I would love to come join you guys provided its not more than 4 hours drive from my house I am in.

Snookerd 08-25-2015 06:37 PM

Did someone say party? Nothing like that West Coast hospitality! Let there be micro tents and high-octane whiskey for all my SeaCraft brethren!

Admiral Snookered, Swabbie England reporting for duty -
Kmoose wanted to discuss "the Hatch" and I was becalmed in the doldrums of St. Pete. That crazy "flamed out" Hernando Beach Mikie came up with the compromise of MacRae's in Homasassa Springs. It's a little far for T-1, 76red18, Conner and you, but it's a better deal for Kmoose, Blue Cattle Egret, Tommy Paris and Rust Bucket than way down south at Evergaldes City! Donny V. can be our local expert because he plays the wash board at Neon Leon's and washes paper plates at the Freezer on weekends savin' up for that 300 Zuke!
I talked to the gals at MacRea's today and they are full on the weekend of Nov. 13,14 &15 (which messes up Jim Campbell's plans) because of the annual Seafood Festival that weekend, but they can except the Fla. West Coast SeaCraft Group on either the weekend of the 29th of October (Holloween) or the 6th November. Stone Crab Season will be open and if a northwestern breaks 'em loose we'll be good, if it stays calm we can run off shore and gather up some Gags and Mangos. Manatees will be hangin around the springs and we can compare them to Kenney and my girth, which is always competitive. No Bones and Skiblet are also within 2 hours on a bad day of traffic. Tommy Paris needs to load up the Merc Murader / Police Special and set a cement block on the gas pedal - when he rolls through Old Town he's got most of it behind him. There is a wide selection of picnic tables in the neighborhood for GFS too.
Let us know if this meets you approval, because we know you have your "standards".

DonV 08-25-2015 09:10 PM

Hummm.....Halloween weekend, I'm thinking that would be good, however suppose Spidey shows up, how would we know if he's in costume or not?? Tough call.

TomParis 08-25-2015 09:48 PM

I got kids, so no way I could come on Halloween weekend.

Terry, to be honest I dont think FDLE has even one boat in the fleet. We have helicopters and planes, but no boats that I know of.

2.45 to Homosexual Springs... With or with out traffic..;)
Also to Tom Paris, bring the kids...:) We have more scary folks in CSC
than anywhere else. They will never be the same after one of our gatherings!
Just ask Snookered... All three of his are still in therapy 8 years later..

Islandtrader 08-26-2015 08:55 AM

When Kmoose comes back lets have Snooker post a poll on where people might want to go. Than unlike congress we can make a choice on what the people want.

Vezo, Part II 08-26-2015 10:54 AM

I'm in any location, any date provided ONE MAJOR detail:

NO PLACE FOR MEL TO SET UP THOSE DAMN CORN HOLE BOARDS!!!

Those things are RIGGED!!!

P.S. Is the 23 available today the ultimate assault vehicle for Hernando Beach and my retirement? Or keep the 20 MA or 20 Seafari, and get a flats boat?

What do the locals say? That 23 looks like the deal!

Vezo

Snookerd 08-26-2015 10:55 PM

I am game to set the poll for location and date. Everyone throw in the locations and dates so that I can put them in the new post. And yes, the kids are still in therapy after eight years!:eek:

Terry your the boss! Let's make this thing happen. I can almost taste all that seafood.

TomParis 08-26-2015 11:11 PM

well, I can throw in a location for the poll.

Shell Island Fish Camp, has a boat ramp, fuel, bait, mechanic and rooms to stay in for very inexpensive.

You can be in the gulf via the Wakulla River in about 10 mins. Lots of good fishing etc.

But as I said I am willing to travel up to 4 hours from my home. Just thought I would throw in a good local area for thought. I have no affilitation with the people who run this camp. Actually, I trade with Shields Marina which is up the river from them, but they don't have rooms, but have a nice marina, fuel and ship store.

Possible CSC west Coast Fla. Options

Admiral Snookerd,
Fire Control reports that the various possible target aquisition trajectories pesented are as follows -
St. Marks River / Shell Island Fishcamp
Steinhatchee - Jena (The "Hatch")
Homasassa River / MacRaey's
St. Pete. - Skyway / Magnuson

Please advise so necessary computations can be made, sir.

NoBones 08-28-2015 03:36 PM

Terry,

You have the Pooh Bah's blessing..;)
Set it and forget it.
If you build it they will come !

kmoose 08-28-2015 05:44 PM

Just got back from 5 days straight on the water. It all looks good but I have to check with the captain as she is a big Eagles fan and I know we are booked for a few home games but not sure of the dates.
We also may want to see how this whole Erika thing turns out.

DonV 08-28-2015 06:54 PM

Oh yeah....how can we forget, Philadelphia Eagles corn hole boards!!! Mel has issues!! :)

Pooh Bah, I forgot about your gifted ability to do "telepathic polling" -
The reported score was
St. Marks / Shell Island Fish Camp - 2
The Hatch / Steinhatchee Inn - 3
Cedar Key / Island House - 2
Homosassa / MacRae's- 31
St. Pete / Magnuson - 5

Therefore, let it be known far and wide that the Official Classic SeaCraft West Coast Florida fall Gathering shall be held at MacRae's of Homosassa Springs on November (5)-6-7-8th, 2015.
www.macraesofhomosassa.com
5300 - S. Cherokee Way, Homosassa, Florida - 34448
Ph. (352) - 628-2602 (Reservations - 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
I have ten rooms blocked under the "SeaCraft Group" - ask for Lynn or Windy and they'll get you tightened up.
Also, google "The Freezer", "the Shed" , "Neon Leon's" and "Homosassa Springs State Park" for activities other than running off shore for Grouper and Mangrove Snapper and inshore fishing for Gator Trout and Red Fish.

Thought for the day - "He who hesitates, is lost"

Snookerd 08-30-2015 08:30 PM

See new official poll!

"Windy's" been called!

Vezo, Part II 08-31-2015 10:08 AM

Ok, I voted for MacRae's, but can't remember if it's dog friendly. I don't think so.
