New to the board 1973 23 SF CC
1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
My name is Josh and I live in key west. I love this board and my boat. It's a 1972 23' SF CC. It currently has a 350 merc with an IO. Thank you for all of your posts and wisdom on this board. Hope to see you out on the water. Tight lines! Josh |
Welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard MS. Capt'n! We've got a lot of "nuts in this barrel, but there is always room for at least two more! (we just of kinda stretch the barrel)
BTW, we don't have many MS. Capt'ns; if you haven't noticed already. But as Martha would say about having more like you, "It's a good thing!" |
Ha! I don't get it.... I'm a dude, not a MS. Haha
|
Welcome aboard Josh, and nice boat and location to use it!
|
Welcome aboard Josh ! How do you like your crows nest have contemplated doing one with out controls for awhile don't want to get stuck up there while everyone else fishes
|
I love the spotting tower. If and when I repower, I will run fly by wire controls up there. It's great when trolling offshore down here to spot weed lines.
|
Sweet ride!
I gotta admit I'm partial to I/Os in spite of needing the extra gearing and the dreaded gimbal bearing for the outdrive. The I/O 23 SF is really nice. Alpha or Bravo? What are the performance numbers? |

Thank you for the nice comments. I run at 3500rpm and that gets me a cruise of 30 knots. At 4500 rpm I get top end of 38 knots. I run a 14.5x19 prop. I love the heavy ride of my I/O. Cruising offshore of key west in 2-4 foot seas, I can still cruise at 25 knots. I just picked up the boat this past February from a guy down here in the keys. He brought it down from Virginia. It had a name burned into the gelcoat "summertime" with a home port of Yorktown, VA. I just got done restoring the gelcoat. It appears everything on the boat is original which I love.

The freeboard is all done.... What a job! Wet sanded the entire freeboard with 220, 400,600,800,100 then 1500. Then I applied the 3M imperial rubbing compound and then the 3M finesse. Next is the bottom coat. What color should I go with? Black or Blue?
|
Nice job! My shoulders hurt just seeing the pics!
It looks like the PO put bottom paint right up to the I/O? I am told (and read) that there should be a minimum 1.5" gap to help limit I/O corrosion. So you might want to mask that gap when you repaint? |
Wow! nice job on the gel coat restoration

It's finally done.. I couldn't be happier with the results... For a 42 year old boat, it looks like new..if not better..
|
Great job bringing that gelcoat back to life:D
|
nice!
|
Well done!

Welcome to CSC!
Nice hard work. I remember that color on my '78. I should have had you restore it :) |
Saw he posted it for sale on Craigslist... hope she goes to a good home!
|
I'm guessing mikey posted this in the wrong spot?????
|
I thought about selling it as I worked a deal on a 32 twin vee, but I Deleted it after a couple of days. I decided to keep it and modify it a bit to make it more what I want. I hate the engine compartment from the IO, but I can't push myself to spend all the money on a bracket and outboard conversion. I'm getting 2mpg cruising at 28 knots, so I will make the best of it.
