Questions re: Seacraft 25 vs 20
Good morning gentlemen.
I own a classic 20 ft. s.f. powered by an E-TEC 115. I am seriously considering acquiring a 2001 Seacraft 25 powered by twin 200h.p Optimax's with reasonable hours. Can anyone with experience let me know the things I should be looking out for in this hull? I understand the basic differences between the classic Potter and non classic construction process but am looking for all the info. I can get re: this newer built hull. Thanks so much |

Denny is a big e-tec fan, he has a 150 on his seafari he might be able to contribute to this thread. BTW good choice, I think that's a great motor for a 20 seacraft

I have taken care of 2 25' SeaCrafts. Absolutely loved them. One was powered with twin 150 Opimaxs and the other with twin 200 yamaha HPDI's. The 200s make the boat. The only negative I hear is the late models 2008 or 2009 had delamination issues with the transom separating. From my understand it was a quality control issue when they relocated the plant.

The hull is a 2001 so not sure who built it back then (perhaps TRACKER) but I will take an extra look at the transom. Fly4 |

I too am interested in the 25. I have seen them on the water many times, and they seem to be nice boats. Just be very careful of the transom on them. I have read and heard reports of transom delimitation due to improper support of the stringers to transom. IMO, it doesn't look like a big job to add support yourself as long as there has been no damage yet. From the photos that I have seen, the stringers tie into the transom, and the older models need the addition of a "bracket" to strengthen the connection of stringers to transom. If you search on thehulltruth you will find a few reports of this happening.

I got to check out Eric's 25 a few years back and it's a NICE boat. I would definitely consider one if I were in the market.

Well I look the jump and bought the 25. I had it well surveyed and it appears to be rock solid. I am adding a backup bilge pump, new Garmin GPS, new spreader lights, new fuel gauge, bottom soda blasting and painting as well as other general upkeep items.
I know I have left the fold (though I for the moment am keeping my 20 CC 1974 Potter). I could not find any concrete systemic negatives with the hull. Only was able to gather comments such: "I heard of a guy whose sister's friend's brother had one that had a problem". In any event, I am a Potter fan, but looking forward to a larger base with the nice Seacraft ride. Will report after first sea trial. |

Many of us with bigger rigs would like the option of a smaller SeaCraft for fun days on the water that don't require the full battle wagon and the 20 does that so well. We live near so many nice rivers and springs that we would love take our families out on but I can't make it under any of the bridges and the shallow parts would be a hazard as well. Trout and red fishing on the flats would be nice to do when the offshore weather is not cooperating but a full dressed 23 is just too much for the most part in those situations. Trust me, your going to miss those options at some point.
