The Fish Tank AKA The Beast

1 Attachment(s)
Yep thats the official name of DAS BOAT. The Kmoose project donated to me and the Admiral, my goal is the make KM and all here feel like I/we have at least in some way made small contribution to the CSC site and all of the like minded ocd csc boaters.

The begining :):)

Dang I lost all the pics from yesterday, had a good one with the Queen's final approval on the DAS BOAT project. This my friend that is having a garage sale and I had first dibs. Got about $400 in rebuild tools for $100. He said at one point " slow down i'm running out of paper to track what your takin ". Got to love old friends like Mark E aka Mongo Grip. Long story but in his prime he could take any man to his knees with firm hand shake!

In the back ground ya'all will see the T-square that I stole for a ten spot.

Thanks all esp. KM
Ed

The plan so far and a ?

First the? How do I donate to the CSC site???

Now the plan so far: It will be a little out there for most of CSC boaters.

Raise the deck 3-4"
All composit, not a piece of wood on DAS BOAT
Blue water 26- Transome
Nida 3/4 for deck KM helped with decision
1/4 cossa for areas of fasteners
3/4 divinicell for all non structial
vinyl ester for most of the build
mas epoxy for specialized stuff

Now the odd ball view: No way am I going to spend the $$$$ for pipe work for the h-top. Want to have AC in the cabin and the helm area. Plan on dog house/big cabin w/drop down curten at the stern end for an enclosure. Bow side, push out windows for ventilation and dry when the rain is on us. Large windows/fixed for saftey and vis. Live well made from an aireator drum, dual pumps for flow thru, lights, multi over flow levels and quick dump the water.

Most of the jewlery from gem lux. Furuno FF 588, Garmin plotter SV 94. Radar? To be determined. Windlass: ?? need help for the make and model. 600 rode and 20' SS chain with a plow or bruse at the end.

Oh yea and all the wire and other stuff that will break the bank.

All prices are subject to change at time of purchace. If it was not for MBF, FHK I would not be here--- on the CSC rebuild.

The first buy will be over $2500.

Dont know if I can pull it off but will try to buy wholesale/partener in 3 companies, no brag, it is what it is and I'm broke----long story.

Sorry for all the typo's the bride and I had bit of a buzz last night and I think my buzz is still in the mix.

Ed & Sue

Check out Fiberlay in Sarasota ...open account with them as a contractor and you will get a deep discount off there prices. They were very competitive when I was doing my build. Plus they do deliver to Englewood.

"Oh yea and all the wire and other stuff that will break the bank"

As mentioned, Genuinedealz.com for wire, adhesive heat shrink, etc.

"To be determined. Windlass: ?"

If you fish a lot for sure go with a free drop model, Lewmar Profish 1000 is sweet. 600' is the limit on 1/2" eight plait rope on my boat, however do go with the eight plait, yeah it's expensive but if your using a windlass it's the only way to go.

Thanks, now on the list! Just checked out, no time to register but will and not farmilar with some of the products.

Got lucky and called a classic boat restore facility in Cape Coral and was invited by the owner to take a tour of their shop. Also was offered glass lay up advice. If I get the OK from the owner, will pass along to the members here.

Stopped on the way home at a convenience store that I frequent and the clerk said she knows some one that is good at painting boats. Just might go that rout for paint. thinking going with Allcraft as it can be touched up. Thoughts?

Sure has been a lot of good coming my way I think the the big guy ie. God may just be laying a hand on my shoulder. Oh and by the way the Admiral is now on board. Was a little sporty for a while.

Thanks Don,
Have used gen/deals also like Bestboatwire.com, not going to spit hairs when it comes to the wire and the like. Did a complete rewire on the current sled 21 years ago when purchased. At the time I did not know better a bought all my stuff from West Marine. When I finshed the buy the sales tape was about 12 foot long.

Re windlass, my biggest concern is poor bow access and cleating off the rode on the hook. Along with proper anchor locker for the rode to lay in. Buddy from THT has a Key West 26 CC and I have to tend the windlass when pulling the hook.

I would skip the windless for the time being and enroll in Moose's offshore class in stern anchor deployment and retrieval. You will learn how to deploy and retrieve your anchor from the comfort of your stern area without any cumbersome trips to the bow. Required investment includes anchor, chain, rope, anchor ball and a stolen milk crate from behind the Piggly Wiggly. Upon graduation you will be able to smoke all the windless boys in getting your hook set and pulled. Your cooler will be filled early and you will back at the dock before everyone else sipping margaritas upon their return! :D

dont think we have a Piggly wiggly down this far south ---Will publix work???

Absolutely not. Publix milk crates are made of gold and are way to heavy to put on the deck. Your best bet is to start hunting garage sales or homeless camps for some legacy TG Lee or my personal favorite... old school McCarther Dairy.

I'm fond of the blue McCarther Dairy as they remind me of the gulfstream. Sealtest.... Forgot about those.

NoBones 08-10-2016 05:03 PM

I have had my 35 year old yellow "Borden's Dairy" milk crate....

It matched my color scheme...;)

I think the statute of limitations has run out...

DonV 08-10-2016 05:11 PM

Yeah you should be good Ken after 35 years unless Hillary finds it offensive and comes to bust your rear end!!! :)

wattaway2 08-10-2016 10:05 PM

Hmmm I could really hit the hard to find spots and see if I could come up with one from Farm stores always thought they had the best vanilla ice cream. Now add that to some A&W root beer --hmmm think I'm showing my age

Good God I damn near spilled my coffee laughing.

OK will lean on you for the hook lessons!

In the mean time I think I'm going G-2 200/twins. Reason: dealer support near by and have dealt with them for a very long time. Long time friend made me rethink the single power, he knows I push the limits of distance off shore.

Now the BIG question. What bracket would be best for the application/most positive flotation? What about porta jack as an option or jack plate direct to the transom?

Will need to buy a new coffee mug/anti spill-------

natecert 08-11-2016 04:42 AM

Oh forgot to mention the better half has given the OK to make a run to the Bahamas in early summer
Shore power and the AC will make the trip easy peasy. deep drop wiring also on the list now. List is getting big.
My money issues have been solved, will share when the deal is done.

otterhound 08-11-2016 06:58 AM

Hermco seems to be the bracket of choice for these boats. They seem to work well with these boats and I believe were the originally designed for Seacrafts as well. Also the fiberglass construction takes away any corrosion issues that a metal bracket might have.

$$$$ Pick up the first load

1 Attachment(s)
Chose to go with Fiber Lay in Sarasota. Ryan, my contact has been a great help.

Was a bit disturbed when I arrived to pick up the order, had condemned all pieces 3 hrs. be4 arrival and nothing was picked and ready to load. Looks like they are under staffed.

Total order: 2 cossa 26, 6 nida, 1-2" foam, 1 divinicell and 1-1" foam. All the boards are 3/4" for mix and mathch reasons. The 1" foam was at near their cost because it was damaged. Also on the load was peel-ply, 2-#5 iso resin, 1700 and csm rolls. A bunch of miss. stuff like mek cabosill etc. and a few tools.

Bottom line-----still happy, Ryan kicked it up a notch and likely $1000 off retail ____ don't have time to do the math.

Got a Gem Lux order a month ago all at steep discounts---close out sale and will pull the trigger on a large order in the next week when the $$$$ has healed some what.

Don't know why but cant insert pic's???? Have in the past. Maybe be cause I used the dumb phone?

natecert 10-01-2016 05:30 AM

Hemco and gas tank?????

Hemco will be on the list. I called and emailed them, response was they don't have the 23 Tsunaimi in their records to build a bracket?? Any thoughts, will i have to make a temp lit and send to them?

Changed my mind on power/going with 300 hp G2 and a kicker. Need to determine hull speed and hp of the kicker. I believe a 9.9 will do it with a big diameter wheel and low pitch.

I really need to order the tank real soon. Any idea where I can get value and quality near Sarasota or Fort Myers? It will need to be a custom job also need a fresh water tank, likely 10-20 gal. The gas tank total gal. is yet to be determined, would like to go with a min. of 150 but 200 gal is what I really want. Will visit the Beast today or tomorrow to get more dimensions and start the calc.

Was going to run out and make friends with a few fish today but ran out of energy.

Got most of the cloth dispenser done. Just need to install the feet and PVC to hold the roles.

You might look into a "Bladder Style" Tank for your fresh water hold. Easy to install in tight quarters or weird size unused space.
They will conform to the area without being custom made.
An access hatch cut into the inner liner or below deck will do the trick.

I had a 15 gal in front of the fuel tank. Perfect for quick rinse off of Reels, Dive Gear and Bathing Beauties after a swim ;)

Thats a good idea. The way the stringers are installed the out board side has little room and would work as you suggested and could off set some weight in the boat as needed.NOW ON THE LIST.

Bought a full mask respirator today from Granger. The counter guy was great and call tec support and I talked to him re: VOC. He looked up the various toxins and that helped me chose the proper full mask respirator. Also bought a set of safety glasses to go over the scrip glasses.

I have spoken with CSC member, FossilMan, who was related to the owners of Sunshine Tank, I believe.

Also, on THT there is a group buy going on for fuel bladders. Why not water? Just sayin.

Kicker:

I use an 8 hp Yamaha 4 cycle Hi Thrust model. Its geared and proped for low speed, high torque, kicker type uses. Works great on a 25 Seafari, much better than my old 15 hp Evinrude. The extra torque gives you the ability to push through moderate wind and chop with little loss of speed.

Yea Ryan was stressed out but always was looking out for what I needed. What I had to repeat several times was the need for light weight product. Trying to loose weight on the boat. Next time I will make the order and call at 8 am to go over every thing and take delivery at their store the next day.

What type of tie bar do you use? A pull start is ok by me and setting the throttle manually is ok as well. What about Nissan or Tohatsu?

I was at IBEX and saw Honda's new line of small 4 stokes. The 8 hp kicker was small enough to store anywhere and if I needed one I would incorporate a storage area just for it and only bring it out if necessary.

Ken, that is an option but in 4+ sea conditions it may not be an option then again if you were to set the hook or deploy a drift sock it could work. Will consider the option.

Slow going but at least got the glass rack done. Those rolls are heavy.

cdavisdb 10-09-2016 03:49 PM

no tie bar. It would be very nice, but the idea doesn't work with the drive/platform/engine mount that I have.

I haven't really needed it so far. The kicker can be set for any thrust direction and locked in that position. From there I can steer the boat with the 1/0 drive. This works fine when its reasonably calm, not sure how it would work if it was really nasty. If I had to steer from the stern, it quick and very positive. The kicker controls the boat real well.

natecert 10-10-2016 03:17 AM

If the kicker can be locked into a straight position then I believe your correct about steering with the main motor.

I have the next three weeks to skin coat 11 boards and some final tweaks to the lay up table. Its just is not as rigid as I want it to be. My thought is the final product will only be as good as the lay up table.

Made it in two pieces 22" wide and 1/2 thick with 1/2 X 3/16 aluminum stock on the edge. Have 2 saw horses and will try adding a two more.

Quick question, can I use peel ply over the lay up and use a roller to squeeze out unneeded resin?

Islandtrader 10-11-2016 07:23 AM

I know you already have your table made up...but what I used was a big melamine board table...easy to clean, and when it got gross I just flipped it over and used the other side. I think I went through 2 0r 3 during my build.

That's what I do before I vac bag it. Make sure you use one of the ribbed aluminum glass rollers though. Peel ply also prevents blush on your part if it is an epoxy layup.
