Whatever route you go spec it for as big as you can stand and as low as you can. Too many times I have been on boats with T tops that were so small a wide brim hat would have provided more shade. The expense needs to be worth what you will get out of it.

This is the one I had on my 21 Superfish. It had a good lateral arch and went from gunwale to gunwale.

Another view of its width. If you're going to have one more is better.

Many provide shade from 12:18 - 12:47.

Exactly. There is a significant performance deficit acquired with a t top as well. To me a t top on a small boat really has to be needed for several functions to be worth it the space they take up like Ken's that serves as a second helm for spotting. A 20' CC is a nice open platform to fish off of but when you bolt a top on you can really change the whole dynamics of the boat and how it can be used.

Not as bad as a Bimini top though. A friend of mine and I were coming back from Marquesas one time and headed into a stiff wind. I looked over at his 20 cc and his Bimini looked like a parachute. Before I could get his attention, the front strap must have broke and it collapsed to the rear.

Years ago, I decided to have a zipper installed in the canvas of my t-top, along with a hand rail on top. I could stand on my leaning post while trolling and steer with my foot. Not the height of No Bones, but it was an advantage. Decided to add some shade and I made a prototype top out of pvc, which did help with some shade. I used it for a few years, before getting a new top.
