Hermco bracket engine height
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys just looking for some feedback I installed a bracket on my 23 last year and this was the first run. Engine looks low to me but I'm not sure. This was a loaded bot full 50 gal livewell and 4 people I usually fish with me and other person. I have one hole left to raise it up.
The pictures arnt great but maybe someone can give me an idea if I'm in the neighborhood or not. Thanks Jason |
Too low to me. Bushwhacker had a good way to see the AV plate-black electrical tape on the top to see it right above the water.

See all the spray?
Way too low. |
Thank you I had a feeling it was way to low. I hope the last hole gets me high enough I don't want to put a jack plate on it.

Do us all a favor and take pics on the trailer with an azz shot...
I just got through mounting a Hermco on Jr's 23 Sceptre with a new 25" Suzuki 300 HP ! We are dead nuts with the mounting after his sea trial. One hole up on the bracket. 5.75 inches from the bottom of the boat to the plate..... ;) Simple geometry. Attachment 15148 |

Are you running on plane in that pic or plowing? At Don's recommend mounting height with Yam 300 in the bottom hole I'm right on on my 23

Bushwhacker any recommendation on a jack plate I would assume the least set back and greatest height adjustment. Thanks again all. I plan on bumping it up to the last hole and seeing what it looks like then. Any other tips would be great |
If raising it a hole doesn't do it, then make sure you have a stern lifting 4 blade prop and a fin. (I wasn't sure if you had these already). Those you can do easily before a jack plate.

This JPL4300 Vance Mfg. Jackplate has the least setback (3")of anything I've seen, but it's only rated for 225 hp. It's 4" height increase was all I needed. Don't know what motor you have, but the BRP Cyclone is an excellent 4B prop with lots of stern lift. The BRP Rebel is also a very good 3B stern lifting prop with lots of blade area and cupping. Pic below shows what you should see up on plane if your height is right. |
Thank you! I added a jack plate and I think I am in the ball park now. Need to fine tune it. First run had the plate just about above the water boat run completely different now more speed and better WOT RPMs. I can get on plane at much lower speed too.
Thank you all for the help I will keep you posted after I dial it in. |
